BETA-GLUCANS: WHAT APPLICATIONS? A GENERAL OVERVIEW
Vannucci, Luca ; Mishra, Rajbardhan ; Lukáč, Pavol ; Tenti, Paolo ; Rajsiglová, Lenka ; Větvička, Václav ; Šíma, Petr
Glucans are polysaccharides derived from various sources (e.g. mushrooms, algae, yeast, barley). They can target immune receptors, like Dectin-1 expressed on dendritic cells - antigen presenting cells. Otherwise, interest is rising for their use not only for modulation of immunity, but also of cholesterol levels, or as possible vaccine adjuvants, nanocarriers and functional food components. We will shortly review some aspects in human and veterinarian applications.
Biodegradability of aromatic-aliphatic copolyesters
Šašek, Václav ; Prokopová, I. ; Vitásek, J. ; Náhlík, J.
For testing the biodegradability of newly prepared aromatic-aliphatic copolyesters two methods were used – composting tests and specific extracellular activities of white rot fungi. Using both the tersts significant changes in copolyester structures were detected
Degradation of polyesteramides on the basis of E-caprolactam and E-caprolactone
Chromcová, D. ; Brožek, J. ; Roda, J. ; Náhlík, J. ; Šašek, Václav
A set of polyesteramides was prepared by anion copolymerization of E-caprolactam and E-caprolactone was prepared and their physico-chemical properties were tested. Simultaneously, their biodegradability was studied and evaluated by scanning electron microscopy
A method for determining the effect of osmotic stress on the physiological state of brewer´s yeast and the course of main fermentation
Sigler, Karel ; Matoulková, D. ; Kosař, K.
The methodology concerns a laboratory assay of the response of production strains of brewer´s yeast to high osmotic pressure common for the HGB (high gravity brewing) process. It is intended for brewery laboratories with good instrumental background, which are engaged in characterizing producrion strains and evaluating their suitability for use in new technologies. Application of the methodology extends the spectrum of methods used for the description of production yeast strains
SILVER NANOPARTICLES AND THEIR BACTERICIDAL EFFECT
Piksová, K. ; Weiserová, Marie ; Jedličková, A. ; Fojtík, A.
Rapid development of bio-nanotechnology lead to the new way in the combating of bacteria and to searching specific properties of nanomaterials The study of bactericidal nanomaterials is particularly timely considering the recent increase of new resistant strains of bacteria to the most potent antibiotics The present work studies the bactericidal effect of silver nanoparticles in the range of 10-30 nm on Gram-negative bacteria and Gram-positive bacteria
Immunomodulatory effects of bacterial lysate of Lactobacillus casei DN-1140001 on the formation and evolution of experimentally induced intestinal inflammation
Zákostelská, Zuzana ; Kverka, Miloslav ; Rossmann, Pavel ; Klimešová, Klára ; Mrázek, Jakub ; Kopečný, Jan ; Tlaskalová-Hogenová, Helena
Lactobacillus casei DN 114 001 belongs to one of the most studied probiotics today. The aim of this study was to determine whether this fraction isolated from probiotics can alleviate the course of intestinal inflammation
Gold chemical vapor generation by tetrahydroborate reduction for AAS: Radiotracer efficiency study and characterization of gold species
Musil, Stanislav ; Arslan, Y. ; Kratzer, Jan ; Vobecký, Miloslav ; Benada, Oldřich ; Matoušek, Tomáš ; Rychlovský, P. ; Ataman, O. Y. ; Dědina, Jiří
The main objective was to assess the generation efficiency in the optimized method of chemical vapor generation of gold by means of 198,199Au radioindicator. We also intended to characterize the volatile Au species formed by tetrahydroborate reduction.
Modified Titania Nanolayers for Photodegradation Applications
Krejčíková, Simona ; Šolcová, Olga ; Maléterová, Ywetta ; Cajthaml, Tomáš
This study is focused on preparation and characterisation of the specially designed photoactive materials and their modified versions suitable for photo-processes carried out upon illumination in the visible and UV regions of the light spectrum. Decomposition of a resistant contaminant 4 - chlorophenol was chosen as the representative reaction for our study.
