Citizens on Recognition of Kosovo by Czech Government

June survey of CVVM was dealing with a situation related to recent unilateral declaration of independence of Serbian province of Kosovo and with diplomatic recognition of independent Kosovo by the government of Czech Republic. 30 % of Czech citizens agree with the May decision of Topolanek's government to recognize Kosovo as an independent state, 31 % disagrees and 39 % is undecided in this matter.

In June survey CVVM investigated opinions of Czech citizens on the level of unemployment in Czech Republic. Then respondents evaluated situation on labor-market in the place of their living and we also wanted to know their behavior in the course of finding of new job in the case of unemployment.

Public Opinion on Information about Environment

In May 2008 Centre for Public Opinion Research asked questions about environment. More than a half of population (59 %) is interested in information about the environment and 36 % of people say they have enough this kind of information. The second issue was how to behave environmentally friendly. About two thirds (68 %) of Czechs are interested in information how to behave environmentally friendly and more than a half (55 %) have enough of these information.
Public Opinion on the Treaty of Lisbon

In June 2008 Centre for Public Opinion Research surveyed opinions about the Lisbon Treaty. Only one fifth of Czech population (22 %) knows what the term „Lisbon Treaty“ means. People do not seem to be informed well, because a strong majority (73 %) of them says that they do not have enough information. Czech population is not concerned in the Lisbon Treaty, too, while only 17 % shows some kind of interest.
Citizens about the presidency to the European Union

In June survey the Public Opinion Research Centre focused on topic of the presidency of the European Union. The Czech Republic will assume the presidency of the EU on 1 January 2009. The respondents were asked if they are interested in this topic or if they have a lot of informations about the presidency. The survey also investigated citizens´ evaluation of the Czech Republic’s preparations for the presidency.

Confidence in constitutional institutions and satisfaction with political situation in June 2008 In June 2008 within the regular survey CVVM SOÚ AV ČR, v.v.i., questioned respondents about their confidence in constitutional institutions. In this month there was a question about their trust to Chambers of Parliament, Government, President, Local and Regional Councils. As a part of the CVVM surveys there is a question about public satisfaction with current political situation in the Czech Republic. The regular survey of public confidence in constitutional institutions and satisfaction with political situation help to monitor development of public attitudes in the long term.
Party Preferences and Voting Model in June 2008

In June survey CVVM investigated how people trust to political Parties and whether they are willing to take part in elections to Chamber of Deputies. In the press release there are two different types of information : Party preference and a model of voting behaviour. Party preferences give us information about public sympathy with political Parties in the group of citizens who have voting right and there is also included a part of citizens who will not take part in elections or they do not knot who to vote for. Voting model indicate anticipated result of elections to Chamber of Deputies in the time of the survey. Voting model comes out of Party preferences but it includes only those who want to take part in elections and they answered us a Party they would vote for – in short this group does not include undecided people and non – voters.
Czech public on global environmental problems

Within May survey CVVM focused on the environment. The survey also investigated how Czech citizens evaluate gravity of some problems related to global environment. As a most important problemes were marked polution of drinking water (95 % „very + fairly important problem“), cumulation of garbage (94 %), lack of drinking water (91 %) and disappearance of rain forests (89 %). Public opinion is divided on question of genetically modified food (46 % „very + fairly important problem“ vs. 30 % „minor problem + no problem at all“) and nuclear power plants (43 % vs. 44 %).
Evaluation of activity in area of protection of environment

In May 2008 CVVM probed, how do Czech citizens evaluate activity of Czech Republic in area of environment and also how do they view the working of some state institutions and ecological organizations in these questions. Concretely we were interested in opinions of Czechs on activity of Government, Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic, Parliament, Regional Offices, Municipal Offices and Ecological organizations.
