Community Arts and Theatre
Prousková, Magdalena ; Žižka, Tomáš (advisor) ; Smolík, Robert (referee)
Based on a personal experience with project Above the Roofs, M.A. thesis Community Arts and Theatre discusses methods of community work at a local level and the application of theatre as a means of communicating with the local people. The thesis evaluates a project carried out in the town of Mnichovo Hradiste, setting it into the broader context of community arts as such and the potential of a community-based theatre project. The thesis further assesses the structure of a community itself and its connection to arts following a specific location or ideology. Using examples of particular drama groups and individuals, it explores ways in which theatre can help us relate to a community, take it as its point of departure, seek it as a dialogue partner and stimulate in return positive social change.

Roubíčková, Hana ; Matásek, Petr (advisor) ; Žižka, Tomáš (referee)
The teoretical part The Stage Design on The Border With Nontheatrical Art Fields is an essay to the short movie The Long Arm of Melancholia, a practical part of my magister work. I take a think about the subject field of Stage-design, I am exploring what the Stage-design means for me personally and trying to outline the creative path to my own project. I handle directly or tip-off on such terms as: primitivism, low culture displays (popular amusement), an image trash, an avantgard experiment, a child?s creativity, the self-creative notice, etc. Associated historical contexts are the beginning of the twentieth century such as avant-garde and the birth of cinematography, and an intuitive selection of contemporary art images. The work is concluded by reflection on the creative process of my movie.

An Intimate and Public Space
Mizerová, Radka ; Matásek, Petr (advisor) ; Žižka, Tomáš (referee)
Abstract: The work An Intimate and Public Space surveys a two-year period of work on the rebirth of a garden situated in Jicin, in Pod Kostofrankem street. A private garden, located in the very town centre, and the town itself which is in a close connection with its surrounding landscape inspired Radka Mizerova, a student of stage design at the Department of Alternative and Puppet Theatre at DAMU (University of Dramatic Arts) for further professional work. The garden space was recultivated, renovated and occasionally opened for all sorts of cultural events such as workshops, performances and concerts within the scope of two years. The most important and systematic work, that was carried out in the garden during that time, was the creation of the authorial performance named Baba Yaga, inspired by Russian fairy tales and the garden itself.
Visual Design of Presentations: B.Baronová Alter ego, V. Klimáček Mária Sabína
Fonová, Klára ; Tománek, Alois (advisor) ; Žižka, Tomáš (referee)
The aim of the thesis is to confront processes of searching for the right presentation means of staging two contemporary drama pieces (Viliam Klimáček: Mária Sabína, Barbora Baronová: Alter ego). Both of the plays involve simmilar themes: namely a theme of two women, that are in principle two parts of one being, the theme of desire for a man and unfulfilled love. Both plays have mysterious atmosphere full of magic and uncanny visions. The means of visual conception were considerably determinated by the character of particular places where the performances took place: exterior atrium or intimate space of a small theatre. The process of searching for a final shape of presentations is described in this work, as well as non-realized ideas and conceptions. It compares different approach of both directors to cooperation with a scenographer. First one, less experienced in working with a scene, set a task for a stage designer and was expecting the solution. The other director was on oposit very much involved in searching for visual means. I tried to find both, positives and negatives, of those different ways of approach.
Theatre as Creative or Kinetic Act
Kudláček, Roman ; Matásek, Petr (advisor) ; Žižka, Tomáš (referee)
This work is about problems of visuality in artistical and clearly biological levels of taking in. About live picture- digital projections as primal carrier of information. About definition of live-show and functions of this topic on theatrical stage. As kinetism of picture in form of on-line projection. Key point is for me digital picture feedback (digital picture echo), development of projecting film efects and ways of using them. Kinetism in theater seen as rhythm not only in dramaturgic way, but defined by picture and complemented with sound. It is about my personal experience during working time on projects Stanice (The Station) and LAPOhádky (LAPON Fairy Tales - Fairy Tales Of People Of Lapland), where I was as a member of creating team aplicated upwritten things in practical way in the shape of performance. I am interested in parameters deciding about way how is viewer processing his visual experience. Ratio between visual/artistical and dramaturgical part of performance. Influence on viewer and the level of ability of theatrical form to carry right information in clearly visual way. I am mentioning that kinds of fine art which are using theatrical elements, their connections and differencies. (Action art, Environmental art, Performance, Happening) The principal of filming-like way contained in theatrical form. This work also contains personal analysis of Robert Lepage movie - Far Side Of The Moon.
H2O - Colourless, Taseteless, Transparent Liquid
Velková, Zorka ; Žižka, Tomáš (advisor) ; Matásek, Petr (referee)
Presented diploma theses H2O is about the water and deals with element as such. It describes first contact, thinking about it and kind of fascination with the water as a living substance. Finally it brings under attention the description of the performance Zahrada mrtvých zón, which took several volunteers into the process of the communication with the liquid in order to let them to be confronted with the phenomenon of the water through an extraordinary experience. This represents the core issue of the presented project. In my opinion, generalization in the Fine Arts is pointless; therefore, I present my own perspective as more valid approach, rather than using any abstract description as such. Simply put my point of view judges the whole project better. Theses H2O is not scientific analysis of the water phenomenon. As an Artistic discipline stage design posses the exclusive advantage comparing to other approaches that it is not build on the exact knowledge but accepts all the possible information.

Mládková, Petra ; Žižka, Tomáš (advisor) ; Matásek, Petr (referee)
In this text you will travell around several stations with me. In the beginning I will introduce inspiration-fields of my author´s project and afterwards I will present its development. The next chapters are dedicated to the optical sciences which became the main inspiration for me. They influenced the first stadium of my author´s project - a short film based especially on the eyes-percetion and its vanities. I will also mention few examples of periods of art in which artists were touched by the same phenomena as me. The miracle of seeing is simply fascinating! Enjoy the ride with me and do not believe in all you see!

Digital Technologyin a Staging Process and Performance
Kopecký, Jakub ; Tománek, Alois (advisor) ; Žižka, Tomáš (referee)
In my dissertation, I discuss the digital technologies as a natural part of society development. Therefore as a source of artworks subjects. Digital technologies have become commonly avaliable mean, which has transformed a society perception in many ways. What formerly remained hidden in the unrepeatable image of the past, has changed into record of a digital interpretation. We are recorded, shooting, detected, aimed, irradiated, x-rayed, scanned. Uniqueness and unrepeatability of a moment is defocused by the permanent illusional interpretation of information. If (our) technology is changing the way of our thinking, it also has to change theatre necessarily. And not only formally, but also internally , thematically. That is why I do not discuss digital technology as a mere practical tool, but I write about it as about the artistic instrument. First and foremost, I consider it to be a social and theatrical topic.
