Contemporary photojournalism, fashion and advertising photography

Bachelor thesis "Contemporary photojournalism, fashion and advertising photography" deals with contemporary fashion and advertising photography in relation to photojournalism. The main objective of the thesis is to investigate the situation in the field of contemporary fashion and advertising photography represented by ten prominent contemporary photographers: Patrick Demarchelier, Peter Lindbergh, Denis Piel, Paolo Roversi, Mario Testino, Nick Knight, Max Vadukul, David LaChapelle, Terry Richardson and Sean Ellis. These photographers represent the older and young generation of the artists. Besides short introduction to the history of the fashion and advertising photography and its use, the thesis comprises ten biographies of the fashion and advertising photographers mentioned above. Conclusions about the trends of the fashion and advertising photography are drawn on the basis of their works. The biographies are supplemented by a collection of sample photographies in the appendix of both printed and digital versions of the thesis.

Approaches to the Medium of Portrait in Present-day Czech Periodicals

The bachelor thesis "Approaches to the Medium of Portrait in Present-day Czech Periodicals" deals with the present state of the genre of photographical portrait on the Czech magazine market.. It defines the genre of portrait, its various forms, its evolution after 1989 and some controversial questions connected to it. On the basis of these theoretical conclusions it applies the picture analysis on various types of Czech magazines (Reflex, the social one, Týden, news magazine, the suplement of the daily Magazín DNES, life-style Elle and women's magazine Chvilka pro tebe). It analyses on individual patterns how many portraits are there in each section and in which form. A part of the analysis is devoted to photographers working in magazines. The thesis tries to reveal the reasons why the conception of one magazine is different from the others, how the type of a magazine influences the conception of portrait.

The Development of photographic agencies in the world

The bachelor dissertation "The development of photographic agencies in the world" provides a comprehensive overview of the development of photographic agencies in the world and also focuses on their present position in the global photographic market. Another part of this work is a general definition and division of photo agencies and a characterization of following picture agencies: Agence VU', Black Star, Contact Press Images, Drik, Flash 90, Ostkreuz, Panos Pictures, Sipa Press and Choice images. On the basis of profilation and historical development of these agencies there are described changes in their news coverage. The work also focuses on present trends, which influences production of photographic agencies.

The aim of this methodology is to provide specific instructions on how to handle historical photographic material in smaller multimedia collections and archives. The instructions given in the individual chapters of the Methodology on how to protect and store historical photographic material should provide the staff of these institutions with accessible and feasible solutions in their case.
