The history of science in the seventeenth century: Science, Religion and Priest Valentim Estancel S.J.
Rego Monturil, Frederico Guilherme ; Binková, Simona (advisor) ; Štěpánek, Pavel (referee) ; Klíma, Jan (referee)
This thesis aims to discuss the History of Science in the Modern Age. It is a historical- philosophical reflection on the relationship between Science and Religion in the seventeenth century through the trip, works and life of the Czech mathematician, astronomer and Jesuit priest Valentin Stancel in Moravia, Bohemia, Italy, Portugal and Brazil . This study seeks to redimension the participation of the priests of the Society of Jesus in the development of the modern era by higlighting the activity of the Jesuit priests in the political-religious and scientific transformations that occurred in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries in Europe, in the Orient and in Portuguese America. The present study aims to reflect on the scientific discoveries of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, especially in the fields of mathematics and astronomy; the new conception of man and world that springs from the political and religious transformations of reformist thought and cultural renaissance; the shock of the new scientific theories and experiences with the Sacred Scriptures and consequently with Christian-Aristotelian scholastic theology; besides contesting the lack of participation of priests, or even religion, in contributing for the development of science. The timeframe of the work takes place primarily...
Mudéjar architecture in Granada
Vopálková, Martina ; Štěpánek, Pavel (advisor) ; Opatrný, Josef (referee)
This thesis called "Mudéjar Architecture in Granada" presents the most genuine artistic expresion of the Christian Midle Aged Spain. It deals with areas of the mudéjar architecture and it puts the main accent on mudéjar architecture in the south spanish town in Andalusia named Granada. I chose this subject matter because I am interested in spanish culure and history of spanish art. I availed of my annual research fellowship at the University of Granada and my annual staying in that mysterious town full of life, different cultures, history and art. I tried to deal with this Midle Age period explaining it on the background of historical events. I started with year 711 when the Arabs crossed the Strait of Gibraltar and entered to Spain. They started to ocupate the spanish territory. The proces of Reconquist culminated in 1492 when the town of Granada was captured by the Catolics Kings. The term Mudejar was first coined in 1859 by José Amador de los Ríos in his discursus called "El estilo mudéjar en arquitectura" given at the academy of Madrid named Real Academia de Nobles Artes de San Fernando de Madrid. The content of this subject matter is to present mudéjar architecture, it's origin, various theories and interpretations, different manafestations in areas of mudéjar art and it's formal and...
Material culture as a vehicle of social - political organization: Chimú pottery
Květinová, Sylvie ; Křížová, Markéta (advisor) ; Vrhel, František (referee) ; Štěpánek, Pavel (referee)
The Chimu culture developed on the North Pacific coast of today's Peru in the so-called Late Intermediate Period, i.e. approximately AD 1000 - 1476, after which it was dominated by the Inca. Brief characterization of the Chimu culture, supported by ethnohistorical and archaeological sources, is followed by description of its crafts, especially ceramic technology, morphology and iconography. Artifacts, i.e. object used, modified or made by people, may serve apart from practical also social and symbolic roles. Based on the theoretical background of evolution of power and society, different approaches to the study of artifacts' function, specialization, exchange and social complexity are outlined and tested on the Chimu pottery assemblage from the Ethnologisches Museum in Berlin. Quantitative and qualitative analysis of the 1832 available ceramic vessels, lacking the contextual find information, had to focus solely on the formal aspects of the specimens. Interpretation of the obtained results disproves primary position of pottery as means of social - political organization in the Chimu and Chimu-Inca societies (occupied by fine textiles and metal items), but still points out certain non-utilitarian aspects of both Chimu and Chimu - Inca styled pottery which probably represented a secondary socio -...
Point of view. The iconography in modern Latinoamerican photography and fantastic literature
The 20th century muralism in Mexico
Binková, Petra ; Opatrný, Josef (advisor) ; Štěpánek, Pavel (referee)
As I was trying to suggest in this text, the cultural value of mural production is political in the sense that it responds to interests and motives of the social world and intends to transform the space which it occupies. When doing so, such visual works orient itself toward the construction of its own public. The mural process that aspires to create mural art must therefore be multiple and combined. A similar thought has been pointed out by Bruce Campbell his book Mexican Murals in Times of Crisis: [Mural practice must be] making its commitments and negotiating compromises within the balance of social forces; attempting to fix in some manner the social context in which it takes place; hailing a more or less broad sector of the social milieu; and seeking out some meaningful figure with an eye toward symbolic consensus, or "no man's land" capable of negotiating through perspectival conflicts over the space of the work.,,161 Only by attention to the practical components of muralism does it become possible to recognize a contextual variety of mural work. In fact, these are nothing more than distinct modes of formal compromise between the production of the mural image and its public. An alternative delineation of contemporary muralism is thus at the same time a delineation of practical accomplishments...

The Impact of Quantitative Easing on USA, Eurozone and Japan in 2001 - 2015
Odložilová, Andrea ; Štěpánek, Pavel (advisor) ; Loužek, Marek (referee)
The objective of this master thesis is to appraise quantitative easing on markets in the USA, Eurozone and Japan. The emphasis in the analysis is on evaluation of monetary policy, appraisal of measures taken and their impact on the main macroeconomic indicators. Quantitative easing belongs to the unconventional tools of central banks. Bank of Japan was the first bank which used QE, than Bank of England and the Fed. ECB set the final round of quantitative easing in March 2015 and it is still a highly debated monetary policy instrument.
Impacts of 2016 VAT cut on selected groceries in Slovakia
Tóth, Michal ; Štěpánek, Pavel (advisor) ; Hájek, Jan (referee)
The aim of this diploma thesis is to analyze the impact of the reduction of VAT on selected groceries in Slovakia in 2016. I am comparing the composition of the consumer basket and shopping lists of end-consumers before this legislative amendment and thereafter and consumer preferences, on which products they would like to have reduced VAT rate. Then I am also analysing the impact on the consumer prices of groceries with recured tax rate and on the groceries, which composition is similar, but they are encumbered with standard tax rate. The comparative analysis has shown that the tax reduction is reflected in the final price of approximately 96 %. The theoretical part deals with the characteristics and the system of value added tax, historical development in Slovak law and impacts of the tax rate cut abroad. Conclusion interprets the results of comparative analysis and questionnaire.
