Media image of the most widespread new religious movements in czech republic

The main purpose of this thesis is to describe how the respectable Czech newspapers and news websites access to three major new religious movements in our country. Thus the Jehovah's Witnesses, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Grail Movement. In the theoretical part, I generally define the term "new religious movement", then I describe in detail the three above-mentioned movements. The following chapter deals with the relationship between media and new religious movements. The theoretical part is closed by describing the used methodologies. In the analytical part of this thesis I make discourse analysis of the chosen media messages. I mark out specific characteristics and roles that media attribute to the members of the examined new religious movements. I cite concrete passages from which these characteristics result. Simultaneously I refer to texts that relate to these characteristics. The results of the analysis I summarize and describe in the last chapter of the analytical part, in which I also present an overview of all the characteristics and roles that appeared in the media. The summary sums up the results of the analysis and evaluate whether the target of this work was filled.

Standard and non-standard language in printed media communication and its impact on discussions about standard language

The present Master's thesis analyses language means in printed media with a particular focus on national daily newspapers from the second trimester of 1993. That year, there was an important linguistic conference on standardised Czech and language culture. The analysis examines especially language means that deviate from the standardised norm of the language. The theoretical part discusses key concepts, such as norm and codification or national language and its varieties. The understanding of these terms is critical for the analytical part of the thesis where language means used in printed media are being analysed using quantitative content analysis. The aim of this analysis is to describe their motivation of use and function. The results are then compared with the proceedings of the 1993 conference on standardised Czech and language culture held in Olomouc. The thesis provides a clear view on how the occurrence of non-standardised language means in media influences academic discussion on standardised Czech.

The characteristics of Jiří Hanák's columns and feuilletons

Thesis "The characteristics of Jiří Hanák's columns and feuilletons" analyses the columns of one of our eminent columnists. In the first part it attends to the person Jiří Hanák. It presents his personal life and the motives why he became a columnist. The thesis answers the question, where did his interest in history begin. It reminds the start of his career as a columnist in Mladý svět, Československý rozhlas and Reportér. It describes the changes of his life after 1968, the jobs he did, his work in dissident magazines and his career after 1989, when he went to several media and settled down in Právo in the end. Furthermore it desribes the column as a publicistic genre. The next part of the thesis attends to the analysis of the columns published in the books Jiří Hanák ve sloupcích I. (polistopadová historie) a Jiří Hanák ve sloupcích II. (co to je, když se řekne) and in the journal Právo in 2009. It analyses the columns from the content, language a stylistics angle. In the content part the thesis tries to find the themes, that Hanák wrote about the most often. In the language part the thesis describes the language, that makes his style very peculiar. The confident woman media construction in the czech version of Harper's Bazaar

This thesis deals with the construction of ideal female reader inscribed on the Czech edition of the magazine Harper's Bazaar. The theoretical part handles the important findings in the field of semiotics. The semiotic analysis itself is the crucial part of my work. Within the wide angle of field of semiotic processes character and its function, mentions the various concepts and theories that are linked to this issue. Chapter which binds to the functioning of the secondary semiotic system, in other words, the myth is based on the work Mythologies by Roland Barthes. Mythological analysis is crucial for the practical part. The theoretical framework also deals with studies on "inscribed" readers from Colin Sparks and Michelle Campbell that was one of the main motivations for creating this text. It analyzes important aspects of the theory of coding and decoding Stuart Hall. Last but not least, refers to the sociology of knowledge through the work of Social Construction of Reality from a pair of authors Peter L. Berger and Thomas Luckmann. A journalist in regional dailies as a specific journalistic profession on the example of the Ústí region

Diploma thesis "The journalist in regional newspapers as a specific journalistic profession in Ústí region" deals with the working and status differences of regional journalists, whose occupation is believed as a specific kind of journalism. This thesis is mainly concentrated on the area of getting information and working with them, it is also focused on problems and difficulties of regional journalism, the role of journalists, their relationship to the local area and as well their moral level. Last, but not least this thesis brings the sociological profile of regional journalists in Ústí region. On the basis of a research which consists of disinterested observation and a research via questioning in seven newsrooms of Vltava-Labe-Press company newspapers, it shows the picture of margin journalists who have to fight with bad reputation in a long term. One part o this thesis is also a historical divagation to the development of regional press in the Czech Republic in the area of Ústí region and the stormy property changes which happened in the 90's of 20th century as well.

Crisis argumentation during the press conferencies of government by using grice's maxims

Submitted bachelor thesis focuses on the crisis communication in politics and on Grice's maxims applied there. In its theoretical part the thesis analyses the terms crisis and crisis communication. It sets the criteria on which the recognition of crisis is based, as well as it offers theories on how one should create and use arguments in these particular situations. Besides that, the thesis also evaluates general argumentation skills used by politicians during unfavourable times and compare them with principles Paul Grice defined as the base for successful communication. The theoretical part hence furthermore describes Grice's maxims, as well as it monitors Czech politics in selected period and necessary context. Second part of the thesis uses semiotic analysis to examine press conference speeches of selected politicians during the government crisis in March and April 2012 and searches for Grice's maxims used there. It also notices the use of language and the character reflection in their speech. With all that, the thesis fills in the gap in Czech literature focused on effective crisis communication in politics.

The language of internernet media focused on skateboarding

The aim of this study is to analyse language of internet media focused on skateboarding. An essential element of the introduction is a brief history of skateboarding globaly and here in the Czech Republic. The basis for the analysis of contemporary audiovisual clips also touches on the development of the distribution of skateboard videos. In this study I also mention the role of YouTube as a distributing tool and phenomenom of instant fame, which is not strong only in skateboarding, but it is a phenomenon across the full spectrum of society. The principal basis of this study is the definition of two print and later Internet traditions in skateboard journalism - Thrasher and Transworld Skateboarding magazine. The study also concerns itself with maping out the Czech media environment, where skateboarding has its own place. The genesis of skateboard media in the Czech Republic follows the formation of Thrasher and Transworld, which is a very interesting fact that is important for the general understanding of the topic. The impact of the velvet revolution on the form of the Rudé Právo Journal

Bachelor thesis "The Impact of the Velvet Revolution on the Form of Rudé právo Journal" tries to describe the changes that took place on the pages of Rudé právo journal right after the Velvet Revolution. The basis of the thesis is on an analysis of home news regarding the content (thus with the means of hermeneutical content analysis) and the rate of political and non-political articles (quantity analysis). The thesis deals with continuous ideological changes that one can notice in the reporting of Rudé právo in the era from October 1989 till the end of 1990. It is divided into three parts that on the ground of historical events determining each of the transformation phases: from the beginning of October to the half of November (the first demonstrations of the Velvet Revolution), from the Velvet Revolution till the end of the year (V. Havel's was elected the President) and the year 1990. Each section is accompanied by a brief historical chapter that should provide a historical context to the analysis.

Corruption in parliamnetary ellection discourse 2010

This thesis discusses how the transformation of the general public and the media associated with the state of political communication. The theoretical section defines the notion of the public and the role of media in democracy and concepts are embedded in context. The empirical part focuses on the concept of corruption and how three political parties (Social Democrats, ODS, VV) planted it in their election programs for the parliamentary elections in 2010. The traditional approach defines a public as opposed to the private sector and also as an independent state space, which enables its control. Modern media is still trying to act as a watchdog of democracy, but increasingly are becoming bearers of conformity and misdemeanor taste. They focus more on the cost of campaigns and political scandals of political leaders. Political elites have perceived and obey him. They realize that the media shapes public opinion and trying to look good in the media. The existence of corruption is traditionally associated with the emergence of the state, government establishment, government, politics and power. Political parties established corruption as a key point of their election programs. Quality TV : explained, exemplified by Czech television programm "Q"

Thesis Quality television: To what extent does a Czech program "Q" fulfill the criteria of this concept explains the term quality television which is basically unknown among Czech scholars. Firstly, it describes its development, criteria and use. The following part of this paper describes the program "Q" itself, which focuses on a queer minority, and is being broadcasted by Czech television. The program has been analyzed using a semiotic analysis of television. The animated open (theme) of the program has been studied thoroughly; I also tried to find commonalities for other parts appearing frequently in episodes. A closer approach has been given to three chosen parts as the representatives of the program - two reports and one interview - which should make the structure and the coverage of the program easier to understand. The first report talks about the idea of pregnant men, the second part is an interview of the editor-in-chief of the British lifestyle magazine for men, Attitude, and the third (a report) covers transsexual people and the possibility of surgery in order to change their sex.
