In this thesis I focused on professional life and creative work of Italian cinematographer Vittorio Storaro. His lifelong journey as the creator of the image, understanding the energy of colors and color shades, light and shadow, their essential meaning and harmony in his works. Through these two major means of expression in film he tries to represent the emotions and the spirits of the characters in the story.

Shooting narrative films with only available light

This thesis describes the topic of shooting a narrative film without the use of film lighting. The first part describes the topic in its general outlines and defines the various terms related to shooting in available light. Explores the motivation of other artists to choose this way of working and their subsequent style of work during the shooting. I also mention some film movements that are related to the topic. The second part is a description of the preproduction, shooting and postproduction of my graduation film "A Night Too Young" . In this project I used the method without the use of film lighting.
Night in film

The night is one of the ways to learn about the presence of light. Similarly, the present thesis is one of the sources revealing something substantial about night and its presence around us. The actual theme of night is approached on the basis of its impact on both the human eye and the film material, or basically any other photosensitive element. This work has been drawn up and is comprised of several parts. The first part deals with the actual definition of the concept of night in encyclopaedic terms and night in general, its role in mythology, and it ends with the description of technical and psychological details of night scenes. The next part discusses the most typical adaptations and interpretations of night on the screen. It provides a list of instructions regarding the preparations of such an atmosphere, specifies the best shooting approaches and techniques and what is to be left for the process of post-production in a film laboratory. The text is complemented with numerous illustrations in the form of graphs, photos, exported film samples and picture instructions.

Thesis trats of elementary physical color characteristics, principle of human color perception. Refer to psychosomatic influence of colors on human personality. In more detail follows color as means of expression, and its usage in cinematography, color harmony, color composition etc. Psychologic, psychophysiologic and symbolic study of chosen colors is concluding part of thesis.
Artistic tendencies of Cinematographers in the Czech between the wars and protectorate film

The purpose of this thesis is to analyze creative approaches in selected art major feature movies that were shot in the early sound era by the cinematographers worked in what was then Czechoslovakia. Were selected seven movies representing the most significant creative achievements of almost all cameramen, who at that time in our country worked. The movies are conquering to an analysis of their visual aspects sequentially by the premiere in the movie theaters. Individual works are generally first evaluated using the views of contemporary critics and then they are already subjected to photographic composition and design analysis. In the graphic annex at the end of the thesis is then possible to see reproductions of selected film stills including illustrated film posters from preserved advertising materials.
The Women of Czech Cinematography

This work deals with women, who have gone down in the history of Czech cinematography as its camera-women. It provides a list of all female graduates of the Camera Department at FAMU and through personal interviews and personal correspondence between the author and camera-women it uncovers the main topics, which have resonated the strongest in the lives of these women. It also offers, in the form of profiles, the newest information on their careers, and it speaks about their current whereabouts.
