Teaching writing skills in Czech as a foreign language to primary school pupils with Ukrainian as their mother tongue

The master thesis entitled "Training of writing skills in Czech as a foreign language in primary school pupils with Ukrainian mother tongue" focuses on the issue of teaching writing skills in Czech to primary school pupils whose mother tongue is Ukrainian. Writing, along with reading, is one of the basic communication skills that pupils learn as early as the first grade. Each language differs not only in grammar, phonetics and orthography, but also in the system of writing letters, including the type of writing, its shapes, the direction of writing and the type of writing. While Czech orthography uses the Latin alphabet and has both a print and a written script, Ukrainian uses Cyrillic, which is a completely different way of writing letters. Thus, although the two languages are very similar, they differ greatly in their graphic notation. For pupils with Ukrainian as their mother tongue, adapting to Czech spelling can be challenging, so it is crucial not only to practise it but also to provide appropriate teaching materials. Possession in Czech Sign Language

The thesis describes the ways of expressing possessiveness in Czech sign language, using a replication of the research described in Possessive and existential constructions in sign languages (Zeshan - Perniss, 2008), which is a part of a series formulating the first findings concerning the typology of sign languages. The first parts of the paper pay attention to the theoretical context - the category of possessiveness and the definition of some basic terms, the theory of universals, linguistic typology in general and the typology of sign languages. Then, the initial publication (Zeshan - Perniss, 2008) is presented - its theoretical background (attributive and predicative constructions, alienable and inalienable possession, event schemas), research design (questionnaire and elicitation materials) and the results the authors arrived at based on data from 28 sign languages. The research on possessiveness in Czech sign language was conducted in two phases: 1) an interview with a linguistically educated native speaker based on the questionnaire presented in the initial publication (Zeshan - Perniss, 2008), 2) elicitation of possessive constructions from twelve respondents (six pairs) who were given the elicitation tasks used in the initial research (Zeshan - Perniss, 2008). Discriminatory labeling of women on social networks, comparison of Czech and Chinese

This bachelor thesis focuses on the issue of offensive terms used against women in social networking service and explores the meaning of these terms, the reasons for their occurrence and the possible historical and cultural reasons behind them. At the beginning, I briefly described the social media platforms witch I used, and collect the relevant vocabulary on these platforms, and discuss the textual contexts in which people use these words. On the Czech side, I chose the more global social networks, such as Facebook and Twitter, and on the Chinese side I chose Wechat and Sina Weibo. I also briefly discussed feminist linguistics below. I will discuss the reasons for the creation of these words from a linguistic and feminist perspective, the social implications and the impact on people's thinking and social consciousness (or perhaps the social consciousness that led to the creation of these words). This is followed by analyses of the concepts of misogyny, stereotype, stigma and the social, linguistic, cultural and environmental reasons for the creation of these words. The master's thesis opens up a broader discussion on foreign language teaching in the age of new media, in particular analyzes L2 Czech presentation formats of grammar and vocabulary in selected Instagram profiles dedicated for Russian-speaking students. It also maps the new forms of signal grammar. The thesis is based on the theory of signal grammar, visualization of grammatical rules and lexical semantization. Language theory is also connected with the theory of media communication on Instagram. Linguodidactic treatment of selected grammar categories and phenomena for Arabic-speaking Bohemists

This thesis discusses selected difficult grammar categories and phenomena, specifically the case system, aspects and prepositions, in textbooks of Czech as a foreign language from the perspective of Arabic-speaking students of Czech in order to find and formulate an effective methodology and solutions to improve the current situation. Due to the typological and genealogic differences between Czech and Arabic, a proper acquisition of the Czech grammar represents a considerable challenge for Egyptian students of Czech, and the author is convinced that the learning materials (for A1 to B1 levels according to the CEFR) are somewhat lacking as regards the grammatical aspects of the Czech language. The thesis focuses on textbooks employed by the Czech department at the Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt. The thesis aims to describe how the aforementioned grammar categories are explained and practiced in the existing textbooks of Czech for foreigners and to suggest specific ways of an innovative approach (an appendix features a newly developed lesson).
Analysis of the use of time prepositions based on the Czech learner corpora

The bachelor thesis focuses on the analysis of the use of prepositions with temporal meaning by non-native speakers of Czech in written texts. The starting point of the thesis is the observation that the use of prepositions is very difficult for non-native speakers even at a high level of proficiency. In the theoretical part we outline the system of prepositions in contemporary Czech as described in Czech grammars, but also as reflected in theoretical works in the field of teaching prepositions to non-native speakers of Czech. The theoretical works describing methodological difficulties in teaching prepositions in the context of Czech as a foreign language are based on the authors' personal experiences with teaching. Based on the material of the CzeSL and Merlin learner corpora, we analyse the use of prepositions to confirm/disprove the difficulties in their use contained in the theoretical works. Svatava Škodová, Ph.D. The presented thesis focuses on the composition of academic texts of non-native speakers of the Czech language in an effort to reveal the causes of their difficult comprehensibility, although they do not contain obvious lexical or grammatical errors. The main goal of this work is to clarify the specific features of the structure of academic texts of non-native speakers of the Czech language. In order to fulfil this goal, we performed a qualitative comparative analysis focusing on the theme-rheme structure of the sentence and its inclusion in the context of the paragraph and also on the thematic paragraph structure and paragraph groups. The observed phenomenon within the expression of the theme was the use of thematic progression types with regard to cohesive devices. Neologisms in Czech arising during the coronavirus epidemic 2020-2021

The undergraduate research considers neologisms taken from the Internet dictionary Čeština 2.0 which is available online. The topic of neologisms has been and will be relevant as development of technology, science, society, culture and in connection with the spread of the coronavirus pandemic in our case. In two years the Czech lexicon has been replenished with new lexemes related to the coronavirus and here we can note the creative approach to their formation. The purpose of this research is to confirm the independence of the korona lexeme and to find the most commonly used word-formation technique in the classification of lexemes. We also would like to show that the lexical part (morpheme) koro can potentially behave as a prefixoid. The theoretical part of the undergraduate research includes the definition of lexical terms used in this study, the establishment of their criteria and the definition of stylistic factors. The practical part examines the evolution of the meaning of the lexeme coronavirus and the word-formation classification of lexemes describing the coronavirus epidemic.
