Seasonality on selected demographic time series over the last 10 years
Bezchlebová, Daniela ; Šimpach, Ondřej (advisor) ; Bašta, Milan (referee)
Nowadays there is a noticeable trend towards increasing number of children being born out of wedlock -- that is, not in marriage. But the term "marriage" has gained a completely different meaning than in the past. Unmarried cohabitation has become a common alternative to marriage. This is illustrated by the fact that until the end of the 1960s, the proportion of births out of wedlock is very low. The aim of this thesis is to analyse the monthly time series of the number of in-wedlock and out-of-wedlock live births in the Czech Republic over the last ten years, based on selected socio-demographic and technical characteristics, and to prove or reject the statistical significance of the occurrence of seasonal element and further quantify and simulate this element.
Analysis of selected demographic and economical time series
Rysová, Pavlína ; Šimpach, Ondřej (advisor) ; Šimková, Martina (referee)
Standard of living in a country is given by a situation of the national economy. High life expectancy, low infant mortality or low birthrate is associated with a good standard of living. The objective of this thesis is to analyze relations between demographic and economical time series. The time series are shown graphically and described. A method of correlation analysis is used for reaching the objective. The expectations about dependences between the selected indicators are tested. With the aid of this method, sense, power and direction of the dependence are evaluated. In this thesis there is for example confirmed a direct linear dependence between general government expenditure on health and life expectancy, which is known from the literature. Other expectations are selected randomly and it found a direct linear dependence between real GDP, number of immigrants and emigrants, for instance. This thesis explains the causes and the consequences of the development of some demographic and economical quantities.
Long-term development of indicators of quality of life in developing countries
Zahradníčková, Jana ; Čabla, Adam (advisor) ; Šimpach, Ondřej (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to find out whether the quality of life in developing countries has increased over the last decades. The thesis is based on own calculations - modeling the trend of time series from the World Bank database - and affects most of the major problems which are specific to developing countries, such us high mortality rates, poverty, corruption and many others. In the first part of the thesis developing countries from three continents are selected, indicators in the field of demography, economics and sociology are characterized and data and methods are described. In the second part the trend of times series of selected indicators is modeled that allows benchmarking in space and time.
Statistical analysis of the consumption of table wine in the Czech Republic with a specific focus on boxed wine
Procházková, Romana ; Šimpach, Ondřej (advisor) ; Jeřábková, Věra (referee)
The aim of this work is a statistical analysis of the consumption of table wine in the Czech Republic with a specific focus on boxed wine. The work is divided into three parts. The first section describes the basic theoretical concepts and statistical methods used in the practical part of this work. The second part analyzes the respondents' answers to survey questions of MML-TGI (Market & Media & Lifestyle -- Target Group Index). The third part is focused on the analysis of time series - the evolution of prices of table wines. The conclusion summarizes the results of this work. Based on the polynomial regression approach the time series of average prices for individual types of table wine are aligned, and they are clearly shown in the graphs.
Territorial differentiation of mortality in the Czech Republic
Bezděčka, Jan ; Langhamrová, Jitka (advisor) ; Šimpach, Ondřej (referee)
The work is dealing with mortality trends and indicators. The object was to compare and evaluate the figures of these indicators among the regions in the Czech republic. The first part explains demographic terms and methods in order to understand the mortality rate and its values. The second part follows and then evaluates the development of mortality rates in the Czech republic since the nineties up to the present. The next part defines the state teritory based on the NUTS classification and specifies all 14 regions. These regions are then compared from the point of selected factors which can influence mortality rate. Then the dependence or independence of mortality on these factors is statistically calculated. After that the work aims at all regions in the Czech republic individually. The values of life expectancy, crude mortality rate and infant mortality are being followed and compared. The closing part is dealing with chosen options for simulating various trends in mortality which is used for making prognosis. It also explains the impact of mortality rate on population ageing which is a hot issue these days.
Census in the world
Vyskočil, Daniel ; Langhamrová, Jitka (advisor) ; Šimpach, Ondřej (referee)
Bachelor thesis describes the history and present census in selected countries. It consists of eight chapters, including introduction, conclusion and bibliographies. In the first, theoretical section describes the methods used and data collection in censuses. This is followed by insight into the historical development of censuses until now. Another chapter is crucial, since there is described the last census held in selected countries -- the U.S., France, Sweden, Israel, Russia, India, China, Japan, Australia, South Africa. In the penultimate chapter outlines the vision of possible developments in future censuses. The work is complemented by the trees of life of individual countries and a sample census forms. The attachment is accompanied by a selected chapter of the document ,,European Statisticians Recommendations for the Censuses of Population and Housing in 2010".
Recent changes in the mortality rate of cardiovascular diseases and neoplasms in the Czech Republic
Valášková, Veronika ; Pechholdová, Markéta (advisor) ; Šimpach, Ondřej (referee)
The aim of my dissertation is to describe and compare recent changes in the mortality rate of two of the most common causes of death in the Czech Republic. I divided my work into two main parts. The first part of my dissertation is theoretical and consists of an inventory of data sources that I used, list of basic concepts related to mortality, coding of causes of death, history of international classification of diseases, institutions dealing with these issues, and concluding the theoretical essay, the term cardiovascular revolution is introduced. In the second part, at first, I analyse the development of the overall mortality, which is followed by the comparison of the development of mortality of neoplasms' selected causes and diseases of the circulatory system, using the standardized measures.
Territorial differentiation of mortality in the Czech Republic
Šišková, Lucie ; Langhamrová, Jitka (advisor) ; Šimpach, Ondřej (referee)
The aim of this elaboration was to identify the character of the individual regions of the Czech Republic from the point of view of mortality. At the beginning of the elaboration the basic indicators of mortality, direct and indirect method of standardization were described in detail and then life tables were mentioned. Through the basic indicators of mortality was evaluated long-term situation in the regions. It was found out that mortality rate expressed relatively, neonatal and infant mortality rates are declining in the long-term nature, but in the past few years their values were fluctuating more. The common feature of both the Czech Republic and each region is increasing life expectancy. Life expectancy is often discussed indicator as it is closely related to the aging process. The elaboration also includes comparison of values of life expectancy in the Czech Republic with the values of selected European countries and expected trend of life expectancy in the future. Moreover, the attention is also paid to mortality in the Czech Republic in the last 20 years, focusing on the 90 years of the 20th century when there was a significant improvement in mortality rates. Conclusion of the elaboration deals with mortality by cause of death. In this part cause of death is precisely defined, the classification of cause of death is given and also the basic principles of classification are described. The analysis of mortality by cause of death in the Czech Republic and regions follows. The annex describes the procedure to calculate the complete life tables, zoning classification and the classification of cause of death are given and there are also tables with data about mortality in the years 2000-2010 for the Czech Republic and its regions.
Analysis of Seasonality in the Czech Construction
Šimpach, Ondřej ; Arltová, Markéta (advisor) ; Hušek, Roman (referee)
The output of the National economy of the Czech Republic is conditioned by a sum of important factors. There are sectors, which increased power during the last two decades, mainly due to expansion of modern technologies and knowledge workers. One of this is Construction. Construction is specific to its position in the economy and in particular is characterized by the greatest seasonality ever. However, this is not a problem for statistical analysis, rather a benefit. Modern approaches allow us to analyze seasonal fluctuations. From selected data we are able to construct evolutionary forecasts. The work will be performed for the most important indicators in the Czech Construction. The outcome of the paper will be conditional forecasts of these indicators. It will also make analyze of the relationship between these indicators and other variables that might affected it. The work is practical application of stochastic modeling approach by Box and Jenkins, augmented by more modern approaches, such as verification of Granger causality and co-integration and testing of seasonal unit roots by Hylleberg et al.
Traveling Tournament Problem
Šimpach, Ondřej ; Jablonský, Josef (advisor) ; Rada, Miroslav (referee)
Traveling Tournament Problem is the optimization problem of sport calendar which requires finding the minimum sum of possible travel distances between the teams tournament matches. The tournament is most common type of "double round robin" where distance is crucial for the teams. Concurrently with the issue of finding the optimal solution to a suitable arrangement of sports teams in the table together with respecting the highest possible number of criteria appealing by stakeholders to organizers such as managers of teams and television and radio companies. Thesis provides insight into the complexity of solving large problems, recommendation for their solutions and possible starting-points. In the end there is an alternative option for calculations tournament schedules in the Czech environment event the distances are not so important in this case.
