Towards a Theory of Characters in the Work of Karel Čapek

Práce se snaží přispět к interpretaci díla Karla Čapka ze specifického hlediska postav. Vychází přitom ze všech autorových děl (bez ohledu к žánru) včetně těch, které podepsal spolu s Josefem Čapkem. Cílem je odhalit hlubší systémové vztahy mezi jednotlivými typy postav. Práce se snaží vysledovat, jaké postavy jsou pro Čapka příznačné, jaké postavy jsou důležité pro smysl díla, jaké jsou postavy autorem privilegované, do jakých postav autor nejsilněji projektuje své já a jaký je vůbec vztah práce s postavou ke smyslu díla. První kapitola se pokouší stručně zmapovat dosavadní reflexi Čapkových postav v sekundární literatuře. Dalších pět kapitol pojednává o nej výraznějších okruzích postav: o postavách obyčejného člověka, o postavách žen, o postavách hrdinů, o postavách Jiného a o záporných postavách. Postoperative brachytherapy in the treatment of the early oral cancer

2 Summary Purpose: Evaluation of the postoperative high-dose-rate brachytherapy (HDR BT) in the treatment of early oral cancer and factors influencing tumour control. Material and methods: Thirty patients with T1-T3N0 tongue and floor of mouth cancer were treated with tumour excision elective neck dissection and HDR BT 18 x 3 Gy bid. The Kaplan- Meier model was used for survival analyses and the log-rank test and Cox regression analyses were used to evaluate the influence of T-stage, histological grade, resection margin, depth of invasion, and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) intensity on local control (LC), nodal control (NC), disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS). Median follow up was 40 months (6 - 145). Results: Actuarial 5 year LC, NC, DFS, DFS after salvage treatment and OS were 85.4%, 69.2%, 65.4%, 75.6% and 73.0%, respectively. The log-rank test and univariate Cox regression analysis revealed the following correlations: tumour grade correlated with LC, DFS and OS; T- stage with NC and DFS; depth of invasion and VEGF intensity with NC, DFS and OS. Associations detected on the multivariate analysis were as follows: tumour grade with LC; depth of invasion with NC; depth of invasion and tumour grade with DFS; and VEGF intensity with DFS after salvage treatment. Orbital Floor Fractures

Summary: Orbital floor fractures This work aimed to assess the impact of the implant material, the size of the defect, and the type of fracture on postoperative complications of surgically treated base orbit fractures. The monitored complications were enophthalmos, diplopia, innervation disorders of the infraorbital nerve. A total of 67 patients with "pure" and "impure" orbital fractures were enrolled in this study. The patients were examined, indicated for surgery, and operated at the Dentistry Clinic of the University Hospital in Hradec Kralove at the Department of Oral, Maxillofacial and Facial Surgery between 2009 and 2020. The group of patients included 41 men and 26 women. In the study, we compared several types of implant materials, i.e., 0.5 mm thick poly-p- dioxanone PDS foil (Ethicon, Johnson & Johnson, Germany), 0.4 mm thick titanium mesh (Synthes GmbH, Oberdorf, Switzerland), 1.5 mm thick Medpor (Porex Surgical Products Group, Newnan, USA), an individually made Toman column, and a Foley catheter balloon filled with saline. Quality of Life in Patients with Head and Neck Tumors

2. Summary Quality of life in patients with head and neck tumors The prevalence of head and neck tumours constantly increasing in the last decades represents the serious medical and social problem. The retrospective assessment of the quality deals with the quality of life in patients with early stages of oral cavity tumours after the high dose rate brachytherapy treatment (HDR BRT). The quality of life has been evaluated in 14 patients treated at the Department of Oncology and Radiotherapy, University Hospital Hradec Kralove for early onset of oral cavity tumour using the high dose rate brachytherapy treatment. The standardized EORTC QLQ- C30 and EORTC QLQ-H&N35 questionnaires have been used in this study. The evaluation of the questionnaires was performed 12 months after the treatment. General health status using the EORTC QLQ-C30 was scored with 70 points. The most severe reported symptoms were fatigue, insomnia, loss of appetite, dyspnoea and financial problems. The main problems being identified by EORTC QLQ-H&N35 were weight gain, cough, pain, sticky saliva and social eating. On the contrary weight loss, speech impairments, difficulties in mouth opening, swallowing and sensory problems were not considered as significant ones. Measurement of primary stability of the dental implant and the influence of the implant design

1 SUMMARY Measurement of primary stability of the dental implant and the influence of the implant de- sign Primary stability is the lack of mobility in the bone after an implant insertion and it is conditioned by the quality and quantity of the bone, the surgical technique and the skill of the surgeon. Another element is the micro-design and especially macro-design of the implant, whose influence on the primary stability has not been given sufficient scientific attention. The objective of this report is to analyze the influence of the most commonly used threads for implant stability findings a stress distribution at the interface of the implant - bone and adjacent periimplant bone and mechanical load transfer from the implant to the surrounding bone (mechanical compatibility) for these types of threads. Another objective is the theoretical use of the Finite Element Analysis (FEA) which is used to analyze the influence of the length and diameter of the implant on the primary stability. The practical application is based on clinical studies that have shown a link between the length and diameter of the implant on one side and the primary stability on the other.
