This theses deals with the Czechoslovak legions in France between 1914 and 1915. The first part of the theses deals with the relations between the Czech lands and France, as well as the position od Czechs in France. The second part focuses on the Czechoslovakian Colony in France and its activities at the time of the outbreak odf the First World War. Subsequently, it deals with the creation of the company "Nazdar" and its operation in the period from August 1914 to May 1915. The third part of the theses is focused on front-line everydayness based on ego-documents, i.e. found diaries and notes of members of this company.

The Rise and Fall of CSLA?! Military profession (1960-1970) in the collective memory of the officer corps Jiří Hlaváček Abstract: The aim of this dissertation thesis is the reflection of everyday life and the (transformation) of the professional identity of the officers' corps in the 1960s in the collective memory. The research is based on narrative analysis of oral-historical interviews with witnesses who served in the Czechoslovak People's Army during the period under review. Memories of witnesses are compared with other types of historical sources. The first part of the thesis is devoted to the problems of everyday life in the socialist type army. The content analysis focuses on the motivation of witnesses for the choice of the military profession, the specifics of military life, ideology in the army, the relationship between the soldiers and the public, as well as on the combat readiness and role of the Czechoslovak army in the eventual potential cold-war conflict. The second part of the thesis deals with the actions of actors on the background of event history. It is followed by the reflection of the Prague Spring, the August occupation of 1968 and the subsequent normalization of the army in the early seventies. The Resistance Activity of the Company of Captain Jerry in 1944-1945

This theses deals with the partisan movement in Wallachia during World War II. This problematic is shown on the case of the partisan unit of captain of partisans Jerry Tomison (in reality Vladimír Krajčík). The first part is devoted to change of viewing of the "partisan" phenomenon in literature. The second part ist concentrated on the history of the partisan unit of captain Jerry, including the life of the commander Vladimír Krajčík.

Jože Plečnik and the Making of the Prague Castle Gardens

This thesis deals especially with the works of slovenian architect Jože Plečnik in the Prague Castle gardens. The object of this thesis is to capture the way of making the gardens, for example the rehabilitation (garden Na Valech), re- making (garden Rajská) or planting new garden (Na Baště). The thesis follows Plečnik's approach by the order for projects, subsequent communication between Plečnik and other institutes of Prague Castle and the reactions on the creations by the two main Prague newspapers - Lidové noviny and Národní listy - and the Klub Za starou Prahu. The thesis is divided into four chapters. The first one is about the history of Prague Castle gardens and about the history of garden styles - based on Královská zahrada. The second chapter deals with the Jože Plečnik personally, and his life before his works on Prague Castle. The third chapter reflects the making of the southern gardens and Garden Na Baště, the course of those works and the features of Plečnik's works. The last chapter follows evolution of the views on the making of the gardens, their reflection in the newspapers together with the reflection of Plečnik in person.

Junák - Czech scouting? To the ideological origins of the Czech Scouting.

This master thesis focuses on founding and forming of czech scouting. The main source are printed documents because of lack preserved archive documents. The main method is textological and comparative analysis. At first the history of world and czech scouting is presentend. To find out the essential differences between english and czech scouting I compared two basic manuals: Scouting for Boys and Základy junáctví. In the following part of the thesis I determine three areas in which the reception of scouting in czech environment is investigated. These areas are scout value system, attitude to nation and state and relation to the Sokol organisation. In thesis are also analyzed the results of international research concerning the origin of scouting in other european countries. The results are then copared with the situation in czech lands. The thesis also includes three following attachments: set of short biographies of mentioned personalities, edition of scout laws and filled research questionnaires.

Chrudim region in 1945

Presented bachelor thesis is a micro-historical view into history of the Chrudim region during the last months of the Second World War. The purpose of thesis is to give the most widely view of the events and changes in the region, which hit the population. The problems in the economic area, which were the most significant, perceptibly changed everydayness of the local inhabitants. Analysis of the anti- Nazi resistance especially partisan movement, with which were connected the formation extensive anti-partisan machinery in the form of Sonderdienststelle Chrudim, is also included. The integral part of the thesis is the analysis events at the beginning of May 1945, taking power of the Revolutionary national committees, retreat of the German army and its conflicts with insurgents. Describes events are put in the broad historical context. The main sources of the thesis are the archival materials of the regional origin. Feeding of the Austro-Hungarian Army during the First World War as seen by soldiers from the Czech Lands

The topic of this diploma thesis is the feeding of soldiers of the Austro-Hungarian Army during the period of the First World War. The aim was to analyze this topic from the perspective of ordinary actors - soldiers and non-commissioned officers. The thesis is structured into six parts leaving aside the introduction and the conclusion. The first chapter treats some psychological aspects of the alimentation within the thematic scope of this thesis. The second part continues with text dedicated to the eating habits of the Czech society at the beggining of the 20th century being as the starting point of the cultural change, which was a draft to the army. It is followed by an introduction to the military environment while emphasis is placed on the social and emotional connotations of meals. The next part focuses on war fatigue and misery, which turned the ladder of moral and market values upside down and caused a deep transformation of society. The last chapter compares the different approaches to the resources inside of the Austro-Hungarian Army to the dietary standards of the allied and hostile armies, while focusing on the effect on the morale and companionship of soldiers. Man and Horse in the Turmoil of Battle. Place of Horses in the War Experiences of First World War Soldiers

This master's thesis builds on the author's bachelor thesis and advances one of its fields - the relationship of First World War soldiers towards the war horses and the perception of these animals. The broad scale of soldiers' and horses' relations is studied primarily through the analysis of biographical documents produced by soldiers of Czech, British and French origin. Written primary sources are complemented by visual sources such as photographs, illustrations and postcards. In analysing the soldiers' relations towards their war horses, the following questions are asked: How exactly did they relate to the horses, which factors shaped and altered their relationships? How significant the presence and proximity of an animal was for the soldiers on the battlefield and what forms did their everyday coexistence take? How did the soldiers view the engagement of horses in warfare and how did they bear the horses' suffering? What was the contemporary portrayal and discourse of war horses? The thesis attempts at a wider overlap by incorporating the sociocultural and anthropological aspects of the human- horse relationship and inserting them into the historical framework.

Between sport and ideology. Czechoslovak military sport in the Years 1948−1963

In this bachelor thesis I deal with military sport in Czechoslovakia in the Years 1948-1963. I examine the patterns of unified physical education and sport, military sport at high performance level and mass sport activity. I pay great attention to high performance sport. After the Communist Party seized the power sport became a significant factor in Czechoslovak society. The Army was an important part of the complex of changes in Czechoslovak sport that occured after 1948. It allowed the talented athletes to achieve a high performace level of sport and provided them with proper conditions. Physical education and sport became compulsory parts of military training. In the initial chapter I discuss the development and character of sport in Czechoslovakia since the end of World War Two untill the establishing of Czechoslovakia union of physical education. In the second chapter I clarify the concept of high performace sport and present the periodization of military high performance sport. Third chapter containes data on physical education and mass sport activity in Czechoslovak Army. In the last chapter I demonstrate an attitude of communist regieme to the making of the New socialist man.

Reflection of Carl von Clausewitz's work in anglo-american military historiography

This bachelor's thesis is concerned with reflection of Carl von Clausewitz's work in anglo-american military historiography. Carl von Clausewitz's work On war, is generally considered one of the most important and most well known books devoted to the problematic of armed conflict.. That is why it was chosen as a phenomenon, through which development and transformations of anglo-american military historiography is followed. In the first part of this theses, problematics of military history in general and legacy of Carl von Clausewitz in particular are described. In the second part gained knowledge is applied on historiographical survey.
