William Slavata of Chlum and Košumberk. Lifeway to the window of Prague Castle and from there to glory

The main topic of the thesis is William Slavata of Chlum and Košumberk. The most important information about his life and career in many significant provincial and royal offices is summarized at the beginning of my thesis, which is divided into five chapters. The third chapter, which follows after the introduction, list of sources of literature and explanation of key terms, describes the development of a prominent clan of Slavata of Chlum and Košumberk, whose origins according to the oldest historical sources can be traced back to the turn of the 11th century. Moreover, I linked the history of Slavata of Chlum and Košumberk clan with geographical context by adding detailed description of clan residences in the Kingdom of Bohemia. The fourth chapter deals with Vilém Slavata of Chlum and Košumberk himself, illustrating the everyday life of a high nobility representative. The fifth chapter gives information on the picture depicting the life of Count Vilem Slavata as well as other important events of this era in art.

Forming of identity through history lessons The description of Czech-Slovak relations since the Middle Ages to the present in textbooks of the 20th century

This bachelor thesis deals with an analysis of Czech history textbooks that were used in schools in Czechoslovakia during the years 1918-1939 and years 1945-1989. A chosen sample of textbooks is analysed from the perspective of Czech-Slovak relations and of the influence of czechoslovakism on making of history school text. The thesis is based on the assumption that history education takes a signifiant part in making of one's identity. The first part of this thesis describes the theoretical resources, the second the specific conclusions and examples of analysis of the historical sources. Special attention is payed to the theory of czechoslovakism, its historical evolution and its echo in historiography. The topics of the analytic part are husittism, national revival and formation of Czechoslovakia.

Historical fiction and post-modernism. View of the older Czech history in the works of Milos Urban

(in English) The aim of this work is especially the post-modern art, its symbols and manifestations. The main area of this research is post-modern literature and effort to concretise post-modern symbols in literature. This work is also trying show the influence of post-modern on historiographical approach. The solution of this work goes from general manifestations of post-modern to particular manifestation in post-modern literature. The main source represented the set of monographs about this theme. The significantly part is about publications of Czech author Milos Urban, and especially the interview of author this thesis with him. On the particular symbols was able to improved, that Milos Urban really writing literature with influence of post-modernism. The post-modern symbols in literature and also the influence of post-modern on historiography were managed to described and instanced.

The Reflection of the Nobility on Servants in the Early Modern Resources

The aim of Bachelor thesis is analysis of relationships of Czech nobility with its servants, disputes between them and their life in the aristocratic residence. Although the Czech historians are interested in Czech early modern nobility, they haven't devoted to this topic. The thesis is based on analysis of published sources (primarily of the ego-documents) and specialized literature (mainly literature of "the South-Czech historic school"). The aim is to focus on people, who didn't perform bureaucratic functions, so, the main task is the analysis of the reflection of the nobility on Servants, who were socially unequal with it. Julius Henry of Saxe-Lauenburg (1586-1665). Builder of a military career, of a landed dominion and of the eighth wonder of the world

This bachelor thesis is focused on Julius Henry of Saxe-Lauenburg, an aristocrat from a large family from Lower Saxony, who converted to Catholicism and made a career in the Emperor's army as one of Wallenstein's officers. He gained some large confiscated estates in west Bohemia. Thanks to his wedding politics he became one of the richest aristocrats in the country after the Thirty Year's War. He founded famous gardens around his residences, especially the one in Ostrov, which was called the eight world's wonder. During his long live he acted as an emissary and diplomat, mostly representing the Emperor in the court of the Elector of Saxony. His financial and social capital enabled him to rank high among the czech aristocracy, even though he came to the Catholic Habsburg Monarchy from a Protestant social enviroment.

The image of war and militarism in the 16th - 17 century through the eyes of Czech nobles

The main subject of the diploma thesis is the view of the war and the military through the early modern opinions of lower nobles, especially by Henry Hýzrl from the Chod (1575- 1665) and Sigmund Chotek of Chotkov (1521-1603). The time frame is set from the 16. to 17. century. Views on contemporary defence of the country are reconstructed on the basis of previously unreleased military debate which is titled Kriegsdiscurs über der hochlöblichen Cron Bohemia Landtdefension by Henry Hýzrl from the Chod. This debate is partly accessible in academic edition at the end of the thesis. The next source, for understanding the intellectual world of the Czech nobility during the wars with the Turks, is military instruction by Sigmund Chotek of Chotkov. The work is based on military debate by Henry Hýzrl from Chod. It is a completely unique view of the war through the view of the Bohemian nobleman.

Annotation: This Bachelor's thesis aims to reconstruct the historical realities contained in the old Prague legends, which were written down by the writer Popelka Biliánová (legal name Marie Biliánová, born as Popelková). Bachelor's thesis identifies the specific imprint of historical events on selected tales, monitors the development of the plot throughout times and conclusions about contemporary thinking which is reflected in the final text of old legends. The analysis of the primary sources contains old legends with transcendental elements, especially revenants. Nourishment of the czech aristocracy in period before Bílá hora and contemporary medical literature

(in English) The current thesis on Nourishment of the czech aristocracy in period before Bílá Hora and contemporary medical literature focuses on two main topics: dining and medicine. Today, both could be included under one label, which is nutrition. The thesis can be divided into two parts. The first one, on the topic of cuisine/dining of noblemen, introduces their diet, habits and provides a few examples of period recipes. The second one presents overview of books that addressed the issue of dining and cuisine at that time. This part also includes personal and literary profiles of several personalities whose writings contributed to this area. A link between these two parts is a chapter on cuisine from the perspective of physicians. In writing the thesis I relied mostly on two sources: literature on lifestyle and historiographic literature. The latter focuses on cuisine from an everyday life perspective without the medical point of view. The objective of the thesis is to show that cuisine, or nutrition is not only a matter of modern age, but it had its place in the examined period as well.

Everydayness of Jezuit missionaires from Czech province in South America

This thesis deals with the sub-themes of everydayness of Jesuit missionaries from Czech province in South America. The author, using sources and literature of domestic and foreign origin, handles questions related to journeys of the Jesuits to South America, mapping their main routes, emotions and experiences, trying to ascertain what the material support of missionaries was and what kind of dangers they met across the ocean. She attempts to reconstruct the course of missions during ordinary as well as festive days and analyses missionary methods currently applied on the Indian population in South America. She refers to limited opportunities of Jesuits' contacts with the homeland, but also with other missionaries. Finally, she handles the questions of how the purposes of the missions could have been reached and how missionaries managed to survive in tough conditions of the missions, but also after the subsequent expulsion and cancellation of the order.
