Water soluble foundry binders with heat dehydratation hardening
Šebesta, Pavel ; Rusín, Karel (referee) ; Cupák, Petr (advisor)
Environmental pressure on foundries has forced manufacturers to develop new organic and inorganic binders. One of the options is water soluble binders that can be hardened by dehydration. In addition to tenacity characteristics and regenerability of the forming mixtures another considered aspect is the amount of emissions generated by casting. Use of these new binders does not require expensive modifications of the machines for work with the forming mixtures.
Influencing of residual strength of foundry cores bonded with biogenic binder
Šebesta, Pavel ; Neudert, Alois (referee) ; Cupák, Petr (advisor)
Foundry technology is an industrial sector, where progress is still the important aspect for reducing the environmental impact and increasing competitiveness. Master's thesis is focused on the possibilities of influencing residual strength of the core moulding mixtures with the biogenic binders, which forms a new group of binder systems.
Differences and similarities of sound-colour synaesthesia (chromaesthesia) and other related perceptual phenomena
Kysilková, Lenka ; Šebesta, Pavel (advisor) ; Chromý, Jan (referee)
Synaesthesia is a perceptual phenomenon found in a small percentage of the population. Stimulation of one perceptual modality triggers a second sensation in other non-stimulated modality. For example hearing sound would induce concurrent percept of colour. This thesis is focused around phenomenological evidence and possible mechanisms underlying synaesthesia. Resemblance of synaesthesia to other similar perceptual phenomena like crossmodal correspondences makes it difficult to define by researchers. I investigate differences and similarities to crossmodal correspondences and also critically review the methodology of experimental studies. Keywords Synaesthesia, crossmodal correspondences, perception
Linking the shape of human face with the perception of personality characteristics: relationship between self-concept and social stereotype
Corlannová, Lenka ; Kleisner, Karel (advisor) ; Šebesta, Pavel (referee)
Investigation of the human face and its meaning in social interactions is currently receiving increasing attention. It turns out that the psychical properties of a person can be fairly well determined from a mere facial image. Facial appearance has even an undeniable importance in mate selection. The existence of perceived facial appearance linked to attributed psychical properties can be explained to some extent by social stereotypes; further explanations can be offered by the theories about biological and psychological factors influencing the facial morphology, or conversely the influence of the facial morphology on the facial morphology.
Cyanoacrylate in treatment of great and small saphenous vein.
Novotný, Karel ; Pafko, Pavel (advisor) ; Lindner, Jaroslav (referee) ; Šebesta, Pavel (referee)
Introduction: Cyanoacrylate gluing technique is the least strenuous treatment of varicose trunks which does not necessitate tumescent anaesthesia and post procedural stocking compression. In response to the long-term unavailability of commercial kits with N-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate (Histoacryl) in the Czech Republic, we used a modified technique, which is based on the technique of endovascular treatment of AV malformations in the brain and uses a mixture of cyanoacrylate and Lipiodol to clog. We evaluated the success of the method, complications and clinical improvement of chronic venous insufficiency. Parts of the work are histological findings of collected samples of veins at various time intervals. In an in vitro experiment, we compared the bond strength of a bonded shear to a tear device. The adhesive mix values used were compared with those of commercially available adhesives for this purpose. Patients and methods: Fifty-six limbs in 49 patients suffering from great saphenous vein or small saphenous vein insufficiency in combination with symptomatic chronic venous insufficiency and complicating comorbidities were treated with a modified endovascular cyanoacrylate glue application technique. A histopathological examination was conducted on vein samples from six. In each patient a sample of the...
Endogenous markers in the etiopathogenesis of abdominal aortic aneurysms
Houdek, Karel ; Moláček, Jiří (advisor) ; Bachleda, Petr (referee) ; Šebesta, Pavel (referee) ; Staffa, Robert (referee)
Introduction Prevalence of abdominal aortic aneurysm is 2-6%. Aneurysm is on the leading possitions in death cause. Lot of patients die do to ruptured aneurysm. The etiology of abdominal aortic aneurysm remains unknown. Current treatment(resection or endovascular)is not indicated for everyone. We don't know the right conservative (pharmacological) treatment. Aims With our study, we would like to confirm the impact of atorvastatin on experimental abdominal aortic aneurysm. We would like to evaluate and quantified changes in the composition of an aneurysmatic wall under the effect of atorvastatin. Other aim is to make a summary of known knowledge of this disorder. These knowledges can help in searching for new treatment options. Methods Comparison of 2 groups of pigs with experimental abdominal aortic aneurysm. Group treated with atorvastatin and group without any pharmacological influencing. Comparing of aneurysmal growth rate. Evaluation of changes of the wall structure in both groups using a stereological tools. Review of published data. Results In our experimental work atorvastatin did not slow down the growth of the aneurysm. Effect was on the histological structure of the aneurysmatic wall. Wall structure of the aneurysm in group treated with atorvastatin was really close to wall without any...
Alternative autologous vascular grafts in cardiovascular surgery
Loskot, Petr ; Tonar, Zbyněk (advisor) ; Stingl, Josef (referee) ; Šebesta, Pavel (referee)
Introduction: Cardiovascular surgery is a relatively young but progressively evolving field in medicine. More specifically, in the past decades, cardiac surgery achieved significant advances in understanding the causes, progression and treatments of ischemic heart disease (IHD). The IHD is the most common coronary disease, and it ranks first in morbidity and mortality in the developed world. It justifies the need for significant fundamental research as well as its study in clinical practice. It now includes specialized cardiovascular centres with the complex specialized treatments. A group of interventional cardiologists capable of performing routine examinations of the coronary veins using selective angiography has been established. They can eventually also perform percutaneous coronary interventions with direct stent implants. Thus the advances have been made in comprehensive indication of the patients towards their optimal treatments under the regime of a cardio-team. Such team comprises of a cardio-surgeon, interventional cardiologist, echocardiography specialist and the attending physician who is usually the cardiologist. The IHD treatments involve preventive cardiology with the regime measures and checks, pharmacotherapy, interventional cardiology and cardiac surgery to spa treatment and...
Morphology of the Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm
Eberlová, Lada ; Valenta, Jiří (advisor) ; Stingl, Josef (referee) ; Šebesta, Pavel (referee)
Dissertation Abstract Abdominalaortic aneurysm (AAA) is a serious disease. Its prevalence is in the developed countries about 3%. As an aneurysm is considered a dilatation of all layers of a vessel wall over 3 cm. Majority of AAA are small and asymptomatic, and although the risk of rupture increases with the size of aneurysm sack, even the small aneurysms rupture. The rupture mortaliry ranges about 70 %. Surgical treatment is indicated in the asymptomatic patients in diameter of AAA over 5 cm. The average speed of growth of AAA is 0.3 cm per year, e.g. in the early diagnosed patients there is a several years interval for a pharmacolocical influencing of the progression of this disease. Knowledge of pathogenesis is essential for any targeted pharmacological treatment. Our prospective, non-randomised studies are based on the application of the stereological methods for the histopathological assessment of the AAA samples. The acquired data enable the statistical analysis, including the null hypothesis testing. In our study analyzing the histopathology of AAA aortae of 65 patients (65 walls and 55 thrombi) and 6 normal abdominal aortae from the organ donors we assessed the following parameters: the area fractions of collagen and elastin, and the length density of elastin in intima and media, the area...
