Dvořáková, Michaela ; Andrlová Fidlerová, Alena (advisor) ; Šebesta, Karel (referee)
This bachelor thesis focuses on linguistic terminology used for language teaching. Terminology is analysed in Czech language textbooks published between the years 1945 and 1989. The theoretical part maps the situation of language teaching, textbooks, and linguistics in the analysed period. The last chapter is devoted to terminology. The practical part analyses terms used in chosen textbooks with a focus on the origin of the terms. The acquired data informs about the various textbook terminology used for different schools over the years. According to this thesis, linguistic terminology used in Czech language textbooks is basically uniform, differences arise only in the representation of international terms, which has increased over the years. The number of terms of sovereign origin was the highest in textbooks intended for selective schools. This conclusion is supported by the specific facts resulting from the textbook analyses. Voňková, Karolina ; Šebesta, Karel (advisor) ; Mareš, Petr (referee)
My thesis deals with the subject of text messaging and e-mail from the point of view of stylistics and pragmatics and I view these phenomena as part of human communication, correspondence. At present, text messaging and e-mail are the most prevalent form of electronic communication and written correspondence as such. They mostly fulfill practical purposes, which are nevertheless substantially associated with the need of human contact. This work includes their general linguistic description, the stylistic problems it focuses on include the issues af spoken and written language, their characteristics from the point of view of monologue and dialogue, and it also touches upon other stylistic factors. The pragmatic aspect includes speech acts, the principles of verbal communicatian, self-stylization, politeness and misunderstanding. Text messages and e-mails have characteristic linguistic features -conciseness, more pronounced in case of SMS messages, carelessness, using emoticons and other devices in an effort to substitute verbal communication. In this type of electronic communication, the instrumental and phatic discourses are combined - phatic discourse is more frequent in text messages and vice versa. Higher and lower degree of spoken language features manifests here. It is higher in case of text messages....

Conditions of education in Czech for foreigners and the communicative competence of Vietnamese children in Czech
Media impact on Czech language : (on example of using moved and not moved forms of women surnames)
Sehnalová, Lucie ; Šebesta, Karel (advisor) ; Kraus, Jiří (referee)
This diploma thesis is dealing with motion of surnames according to gender and their forms in Czech media. In the beginning the formation of surnames is described; chapters considering the grammar rules shows not only how to move surnames, but also how to declension surnames and integrate them into the text. In the diploma thesis I tried to mention standard surnames as well as those surnames which can cause problems while we embody them into Czech texts. To found out how to correctly integrate surnames into the Czech language and if Czech media adhere to the rules was the goal of my diploma thesis. Motion of surnames according to the gender is considered to be very controversial and questionable, and that is why contradictory arguments and comments are added to the chapters which are dealing with this problem. Language is influenced by media majorly. That was the reason I made a research to found out how our media use Czech women surnames in the second part of this work. As I have noticed, different newspapers and magazines have differend approaches to motion of surnames and the rules should be regularized and consolidated according to my opinion. For the researched media it is possible to use this part of my work and the deductions I made in their redaction codexes. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
Work with text (read skill) in selected textbooks of Czech language
