Anthropology of Albanian insurgencies after 1981
Tesař, Filip ; Šatava, Leoš (advisor) ; Haluzík, Radovan (referee) ; Stojarová, Věra (referee)
Presented work analyzes quantitatively and qualitatively at the micro-level the activities of insurgent groups and organizations that were operating among Albanians in Kosovo, Macedonia and South Serbia during 1981-2010, particularly in the form of terrorism and guerrilla warfare. Major attention is paid to the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA). Based on it, the work presents an empirically measurable theoretical model of social mobilization into violent collective action. The model, whose basic goal is to explain the so-called free-rider problem in a high-risk collective action, consists of four theses: 1. Violence helps maintain the internal cohesion of the clandestine group, change public attitudes, attract new recruits and convince potential donors of the meaningfulness of financial contributions. 2. The problem of free-riding in collective action is weakened when the threat posed by the state and opportunities became balanced, and participants will get the subjective feeling of safety among large numbers of others. 3. Open insurgencies do not spread evenly across the country, but in geographical clusters around selected epicenters. 4. In the initial phase of an open insurgency, self-organization prevails, with most new recruits joining it due to the prospects of resolving their personal life...

The role of music in the revitalization and preservation of the Ruthenian language and culture (a case study in the NE of Slovakia)
Tomková, Jana ; Kratochvíl, Matěj (advisor) ; Šatava, Leoš (referee)
The presented thesis is focused on the role of music in ethnolinguistic revitalization activities. The aim of the work is to map and analyse the relationship between music and language in the environment of the ethnolinguistic minority in Slovakia. Ethnolinguistic revitalization includes efforts to revive and maintain a disappearing language in a minority ethnic group and strengthen the ethnic identity of members of the ethnic group. We encounter such activities more and more often in the world. In this thesis, the author examines the use of music and songs within the private and public sphere of the life of members of an ethnic minority, the role and function of music in the culture of a particular ethnic minority, and the degree of influence of music on the ethnolinguistic revitalization movement. Specifically, the mentioned tendencies are examined among the ethnic Ruthenians in Slovakia, where there has been an observable linguistic shift towards the Slovak language. For the purpose of the work, field research was also carried out, from which the obtained material was properly processed, analysed and interpreted. At the same time, during the research, the broader social and historical context was taken into account and compared with the current situation and the conclusions of previous research....
Ethnolinguistic assimilation of the Hungarian minority in south Slovakia: case study of the Nitra area
Čeryová, Alexandra ; Šatava, Leoš (advisor) ; Jakoubková Budilová, Lenka (referee)
The study focuses on the assimilation tendencies of the Hungarian minority in south Slovakia in the rural area of Nitra, mainly observing the relationship of language and ethnicity, which form the minority identity in the framework of the modern Slovak national state. The work is based on the population census, according to which the number of Hungarian and Hungarian-speaking citizens in Slovakia is gradually declining. In this work, I try to support this fact with a case study from the emic perspective of Hungarians in Slovakia, who come from the area of the Podzoborie region Hungarian enclave. Thanks to its heterogenic composition and its proximity to a county city, the enclave offers valuable data in the research of assimilation and Slovak-Hungarian relationships. The main goal of the research was to name possible reasons and factors responsible for the degression of Hungarian self-identification and the knowledge of the Hungarian laguage in this area, which may be subsequently applied in the reasearch of language and identity of Slovak Hungarians in other parts of Slovakia. I work with the hypoteses that urbanisation, nationalism and exogamy influence rising assimilation of the minority and the demographic formation of said area. Key words: Hungarian minority, Slovakia, assimilation, language,...

Approaches and methods of integration can be different depending on ambiguity of this term. This dissertation is focused on specific example of effort to integrate women immigrants with help of traditional food, which came from the ground of civil association InBáze, o.s. The association developed a project named Ethnocatering which helps to immigrants to become successful on job market via their own experience from gastronomy and it`s supporting itself by social entrepreneurship. Women from different countries of the world then have an opportunity to prepare specialties typical for countries they come from and introduce those to the local society. This essay is focused on immigrants from countries such as South Caucasus - Georgia and Armenia and also on traditional food typical for these countries. Kľúčové slová (anglicky): traditional food, different ethnic background cuisine, social entrepreneurship, immigration, integration
