The Issues of Musical Programs on Czech Television II

Dissertation titled Issues of musical programs on Czech Television II deals with the legitimacy of the occurrence of classical music on Czech TV, its quantitative volume and its relationship to other musical genres in the broadcasting. It compares the number of produced hours of the various musical genres at different times of Czechoslovak Television and Czech Television in Prague (the main redaction of musical broadcasting, Creative group Radim Smetana and Vitezslav Sykora, the Music and drama department and the Drama, music and children's department), esp. during years 1980 - 1990, 2000 - 2005 and 2006 - 2012 with researches of a leading Czech musicologist Mikulas Bek which deal with musical preferences of the Czech population and are unique due to its scale and treatment. The work also seeks to highlight the importance of making popular educational programs that improve viewers' orientation in more demanding genres of symphonic, opera and chamber music. It also mentions the necessity of teamwork with respect to a sufficiently broad range of music programs and appreciates musical education needed for the production of these programs.
FOUNDING A COMPANY IN A MUSIC MANAGEMENT INDUSTRY

The aim of this thesis is to provide a wide scope of information that might be valuable for those involved in music management. At first, the project enables to understand pre-business phase, a period before setting up of an actual company. The author asks an important question of being ready for such a crucial decision, followed by general description of business institution and principles as such. Those work for any type of business including music industry.
TRANSFORMATION OF CULTURE AND CULTURAL INSTITUTIONS IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC

The subject of this thesis is the analysis of the fields related to culture transformation, that implies the changes in its financing, ownership or legal environment, as a follow up to the change of the cultural paradigm itself and to the comparison of the selected countries, which differ both in their historical development and the present day. The reasons for choosing the topic are described in this thesis, different attitudes to the domain of culture are mentioned, the contemporary process of changing the cultural paradigm is explained, and the cultural politics and systems in the Czech Republic are compared to the situation in France, Great Britain and the USA. Possible alternatives concerning the trend in culture conception in the Czech Republic are outlined, and the methodology leading to obtaining background material for possible liable decision making about the future culture system in the Czech Republic is defined.
The Private Music School Project

The bachelor´s thesis focuses on private music schools in the Czech Republic. The thesis consists of three parts. The first part focuses on the history of the Czech music education system from the Middle Ages to the 20th century. The second part deals with the music education system from 1989 to the present. It contains information on all levels of schools: elementary schools, high schools (conservatories) and universities. The main attention is focused on elementary music education, especially on the comparison between state schools, private schools and other possibilities of arts education in the Czech Republic. The final part of the thesis is devoted to the establishment of a private music school. The aim is to describe a manual of the foundation, demands made on the entrepreneur, duties related to entrepreneurship in the Czech Republic. This part also includes marketing of the school and searching for clients and capable employees.
Prominent wind orchestras of the countries of the European Union

The thesis focuses on prominent wind orchestras of the countries of the European Union. From each country information is given about one orchestra, which is regarded as among the best from a given country. The work then evaluates the ensembles from artistic, historic and organizational perspective. Specific differences are mentioned as well as common properties. Methods of propagation and use of chamber groups are considered in more detail.
Crowdfunding: Methods, Opportunities and Applications in the Czech Music Industry

This thesis focuses on the issue of crowdfunding – its methods, opportunities and applications in the Czech music industry. The first part of this work clarifies basic concepts from the fundraising sphere, thus attempting to define crowdfunding and set its mechanisms into both - historical and alternative contexts of financing culture within the present day. In an essayistic manner, the author outlines changes of the music industry within the world as well as the local market, spanning from the second half of the twentieth century up to the present, where it is possible to observe first impulses towards seeking alternative resources of financing culture, especially music. The theoretical part of the thesis explains how crowdfunding campaigns operate, or should operate, and what their specifics are. This work maps out the formation and functioning of crowdfunding abroad as well as in the Czech environment, while focusing on operators who provide a platform for executing crowdfunding campaigns and work out the campaigns’ analyses and comparison. This thesis’ research part describes crowdfunding campaigns’ mechanisms that concentrate on music in practice within the Czech environment. Providing examples of two case studies, this work brings qualitative analyses of successful music projects that used opportunities of crowdfunding in the Czech music industry in 2012 and 2014. As a part of the aforementioned studies, the author presents unstructured interviews with campaign creators that result in specifics, advantages as well as drawbacks, regarding application of crowdfunding in music.  
The charity concerts and their musical and social benefits

This bachelor’s thesis is a study of how to organize a public concert as a fundraising project for charitable purposes. In the first section, the history of such concerts for the public good is discussed and the preparations are outlined for the concert of this study. In the second, the results of a public questionnaire are given and interviews with a professional fundraiser and with principals of a charity trust are presented. The final section describes some personal experiences with such projects. The thesis aims to describe the arrangements that are necessary for a successful charity concert and to show the benefits of such a project for the public good.
New strategies of classical music presentation

This thesis analyses new ways of interpreting and producing classical music using two examples, the Komische Oper Berlin and Metropolitan Opera New York - two highly influential hubs of classical music. The thesis sets out to critically assess whether and how these institutions succeed in attracting new audiences by means of modern production and marketing while keeping high level of per- formed art.

Modern (digital) forms of music and a role of social networks

This doctoral thesis is comprised of two main fields of studying. The first one deals with modern digital on-line technologies in relation to the distribution of music and the current situation on the music market, including digital copyright law issues related to intellectual property value. The second area describes social networks (Facebook, YouTube, Myspace and others) with a focus on marketing, promotion, image and PR policy of cultural (music) management and cultural (music) institutions. This thesis provides a detailed specification of all the benefits, challenges, risks and pitfalls arising from the digital age, including several case studies.
