Overview of the effects of selected dietary supplements on the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases
Šíma, Petr ; Michalová, I.
The article is an overview of selected studies that dealt with the effects of long-term administration of certain dietary supplements,\nwhich are assumed to positively influence the prevention and treatment of the most serious non-communicable (chronic) diseases, which are currently mainly cardiovascular disease. Only in our country, heart diseases have been the cause of death for a long time\nalmost two-thirds of people. \nThe aim of this study was to show that despite the popularity and mass distribution of dietary supplements, their health benefits are questionable.\n
Support for career choice at ŠKODA AUTO
Šíma, Petr ; Koťa, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Valášková Vincejová, Eva (referee)
The topic of the diploma thesis is pedagogical and psychological support for choosing a career in the ŠKODA AUTO Company. The aim of the thesis is to describe, verify and evaluate the effectiveness of the system of marketing actions to support the choice of profession implemented through the ŠKODA Academy and the ŠKODA AUTO Secondary Vocational School of Engineering, from recruitment campaigns to obtaining applicants to the placement of graduates. The work has a theoretical-empirical character and is divided into two parts. In the theoretical part, it introduces the corporate system of preparing school pupils for future occupations, describes individual forms of support for choosing a profession with an emphasis on their specifics. The practical part of the work assesses the contribution of individual marketing actions to the applicants' decision-making about the choice of profession through a questionnaire survey conducted among students of the 1st and 2nd year of SOUs. Through research conducted among 3rd and 4th year students of SOUs, it verifies how the professional practice of students in a company and the involvement of the company's professional departments in teaching affect the quality of education and to what extent the company's placement policy for graduates is reflected in their choice...
The effect of enriched blood plasma on the treatment of chronic wounds
Šíma, Petr ; Džupa, Valér (advisor) ; Rob, Filip (referee) ; Burda, Rastislav (referee)
Population ageing is connected with increased incidence of chronic diseases. Some of the frequent conditions are chronic skin defects which are not life threatening, however, they significantly impair the quality of patient's life. The aim of this study is to present and test new materials and procedures leading to improvement and acceleration of treatment of lower leg ulcers. The first part of the study is focused on experimental laboratory testing of the impact of platelet rich plasma on cell growth in the in-vitro conditions. The experiment comprised of combination of new materials made from nanofibers generated from various types of organic polymers. Bio-compatibility and bio-degradability of cell carriers intended for treatment of chronic defects and mechanical properties of materials were monitored. The second part of the study is focused on the proof of better healing of chronic defects if the platelet rich plasma is used locally. The cohort included 25 patients with chronic defects who were treated using the autologous growth factors applied on nanocarriers. The control group included 15 patients treated by a standard moist wound therapy. The surface area and depth of the defect was measured and the results were subsequently statistically processed and evaluated. The third part of the...
Zoological preparation techniques in school practice
Odcházelová, Tereza ; Mourek, Jan (advisor) ; Šíma, Petr (referee)
This thesis consists of description of chosen methods of permanent macroscopic zoological preparations. I verified successfully all the methods in practice and in case of methodological difficulties I optimized them for use in the school environment. In this work I answered the questions that could come up throughout the preparation process, for example: how to preserve the animal correctly; where to acquire the animal legally; what is the best way to maintain the animal's natural colour; what materials to use for the preparation and so on. According to current approaches I created not only a text based version of the manual of all verified preparation methods, but also an online version in form of a web site. To clarify the methods I included video sequences, photographs and schemes. With this e- learning course a teacher will be able to extend the school collection with his own preparations and also will be able to recognize what significant characteristics to point out. As a part of my work I have done a questionnaire focused on using various types of equipment in biology lectures. I have asked primary school teachers and high school teachers from all regions in the Czech Republic. This questionnaire was sent online and 322 out of 1636 people responded. The answers tell us that teachers...
Observation of human sperm cell immunogenic properties
Cibulka, Jan ; Ulčová-Gallová, Zdeňka (advisor) ; Fingerová, Helena (referee) ; Madar, Jindřich (referee) ; Šíma, Petr (referee)
The issue of human infertility is becoming increasingly pressing, especially in so- called industrially developed countries. Formally, we can share the infertility attributes between the male and the female partner (as a male and female infertility factor), but the problem finally affects the whole parental couple. Perhaps, due to the complexity of the female reproductive tract, it is estimated that over 40% of the reproductive failure is hidden in one or more of its parts. The "strong point" of the male factor is derived from the pathological sperm count. For the remaining 15 to 20% of causes, whether morphological or functional, cannot be to find either clearly or not at all. We talk about the otherwise unexplained infertility, that can be caused in up to 30% immunologically. Due to broad concept of immunology of reproduction, we have chosen literally as a probe into this issue in all respects unique spermatic cell that represents not only a carrier of genetic information, but also a set of antigenic structures. This cell seems to be perfect for this task, because of its availability to most basic laboratory techniques. We will try to familiarize ourselves with some of the obstacles that may prematurely end its mission, especially with the antibodies against its antigenic structures (ASA -...

Beta-Glucans: What Applications? A General Overview
Vannucci, Luca ; Mishra, Rajbardhan ; Lukáč, Pavol ; Tenti, Paolo ; Rajsiglová, Lenka ; Větvička, V. ; Šíma, Petr
Glucans are polysaccharides derived from various sources (e.g. mushrooms, algae, yeast, barley). They can target immune receptors, like Dectin-1 expressed on dendritic cells - antigen presenting cells. Otherwise, interest is rising for their use not only for modulation of immunity, but also of cholesterol levels, or as possible vaccine adjuvants, nanocarriers and functional food components. We will shortly review some aspects in human and veterinarian applications.
