The analysis of digital archive Ask the Library

This bachelor's thesis seeks to analyze records of answered queries, saved in their online digital archive of the Czech national digital reference service called Ask your library. Two first chapters are based on studying sources, found within a bibliographical exploration of the subject. The first chapter briefly presents the service (development, current state, function, organization and administration, receiving and answering processes, etc.). The second chapter describes in detail the creation of online archive with answered queries and researching information from it. In the third chapter is detailed analysis of answered queries. The presentation of the results forms a major part of the work. The analysis includes the presentation and interpretation of basic statistics published on the Web site (eg. the proportion of questions within years, the share of stakeholders on answering queries, etc..), and analysis of the content of the answered queries within selected thematic categories (content and nature of the response, used and others recommended resources). Finally, the author evaluates the results of the analysis of the online archive of the answered queries and perspectives of next development of this service. Methods for monitoring inter-library loans at selected libraries in Czech Republic

Metody sledování prezenčních výpůjček ve vybraných knihovnách v České republice Michaela Chržová Abstrakt (anglicky) The thesis is focused on the issue of monitoring inter-library loans with examples of particular libraries. This thesis commences with a definition of the in-house use and other basic terms and places them in the context of providing library loan services, the organization of library collections and the accessibility of documents in libraries. A separate chapter discusses the issue of feedback in libraries. This section describes the principle of feedback and describes the methods used and suitable for monitoring inter-library loans. Part is also devoted to the research that had been held in the past in the Czech Republic and abroad. The practical part deals with the survey of monitoring inter-library loans at libraries in the Czech Republic that was conducted via a questionnaire. Results are evaluated and described in this thesis. Examples of specific libraries show ways how to use data collected by monitoring in-house use in the acquisition of documents, development and organization of library collections. The result of this thesis is a description of methods for monitoring inter- library loans at selected libraries in the Czech Republic.

Historical cabinet is one of the sub-libraries of the Faculty of arts of Charles University in Prague. It was founded in 1882 as a library for historical seminar. At present it is determined on the information needs of students and teachers of history. This thesis focuses on methods of processing book collections of the library, especially the acquisition, cataloging and organizing the library collection. The main contribution of this thesis lies in the characteristics of problem points that arise precisely in connection with the processing of the fund.
The Access to Electronic Journals - Comparison of Tools used by Selected Libraries in the CR

The bachelor thesis deals with accessing to the electronic journals in Czech Republic's libraries. The theoretical part of the thesis defines term electronic resources (ER) and its parts. The thesis describes types of tools used by libraries for accessing ER and it describes examples of particular tools. The practical part of the thesis comprises analysis (based on interviews with ER managers) of ER solutions in three libraries - Library of the Faculty of Arts of Charles University in Prague, Library of the Academy Sciences of the Czech Republic and Municipal Library of Prague. Library organizations and networks in Great Britain

The diploma thesis focuses on the topic of library associations and networks that have a direct impact on development of libraries and librarianship. The main attention was given to library associations of the United Kingdom. The aim of this thesis is to analyze current activities and goals of selected library associations of the United Kingdom. Furthermore the thesis presents library associations of the Czech Republic, their history and current activities. The conclusion provides a comparison of Czech and British library associations. Monitored were primarily legislative frameworks, the focus of library associations, their activities and use of Web 2.0. There were also defined areas of possible future development of the Czech associations.
Community functions of public libraries as one means of getting potential readers

Purpose of this thesis is to chart the area of community activities. The first part is theoretical. Main focus is on introduction into basic terms, and description of providing community services to the public, especially with regard to specific needs of target groups. Also promotional tools are given a brief part, as well as community activities realised abroad; following by specific examples of community activities of selected public libraries in region of Central Bohemia. The final part of the thesis analyses results of questionnaire focused on community activities provided by public libraries of Central Bohemia region as perceived not only by users, but also library staff. Information Sources for Theatrical Form of Dance

The bachelor thesis describes selected information sources for a theatrical form of dance. The thesis is divided into two parts: theoretical and practic. Theoretical part explains the terms related to the information sources and theatrical form of dance and describes historical development of the information sources. The aim of the thesis is to describe and compare information sources for a theatrical form of dance. The thesis makes differences between the information sources for general public and those for professional dancers. Practical part of thesis compares information sources based on their content. The comparison shows that the czech information sources are comparable to the foreign sources. Current status of professional organizations in the field of librarianship in the Czech Republic

The diploma thesis focuses on the topic of the current state of professional library organisations in the Czech republic and the attitudes that the beginning as well as experienced librarians have towards them. The thesis analyses the importance of professional organisations and further analyses each Czech organisation of this type, with emphasis on the current array of professional education opportunities they offer. The core of the thesis lies in a survey examining the attitudes that librarians have towards this type of organisations. The survey consisted of three parts: it was carried out among students of librarianship and informations sciences, among current members of professional library organisations which have an option of an individual membership, and among potential members of these organisations from the ranks of experienced librarians. Based on the analyses of the individual professional organisations and the results of the survey, the thesis also presents several development concept proposals which touch upon areas these organisations should further develop in the future. The support of the childrens' reading in the Czech Republic and German speaking countries

The diploma thesis concentrates on the children's reading issues, and compares the approach to its support in the Czech Republic and the German speaking countries. The introductory part is devoted to the current children's reading, the factors that influence it, and reading interests of today's children. It also evaluates the contemporary Czech children's literature and its publishers. The following two chapters describe the activities for the children's reading support that are developed by Czech libraries and non-librarian entities. The next part introduces the projects for the children's reading support implemented in Austria and Germany; it also shortly describes the programs of other German speaking countries. The sixth chapter briefly outlines the subject matter of the children's reading support in both Czech and foreign media. There are two surveys attached to the thesis. The first compares the activities of selected Czech and foreign libraries, and their contribution to the children's reading support. The second survey, implemented among the children readers of the Central Library of the Municipal Library in Prague, evaluates the children's satisfaction with the offered thematic discussions for the school classes. This Bachelor thesis introduces European cooperative project Elektronické knihy na objednávku - Evropská knihovní síť (eBooks on Demand - A European Library Network, EOD) and homonymous service which aims to digitize rare books on customer's demand. customer's demand. The first part of thesis describes the project in generally way regarding its history, describing goals, key activities, and technological workflow of EOD service. Furthermore the thesis focuses on describing current situation of EOD service in the Czech Republic. The last part presents the promotional tools of EOD service and their possible new opportunities.
