How Language and Nation Interwine: Changes in the Language of Australian Literature from 1830 up to the Present
Císlerová, Magdalena ; Čermák, Jan (advisor) ; Willoughby, Louisa (referee) ; Horáková, Martina (referee)
While previous research has explored the relationship between national identity and language in Australia, it has not been examined on language data through history. This dissertation thus aims to trace linguistic manifestations of emerging local identity on a corpus of canonical Australian literature from 1830 up to the present. The corpus is divided into four periods based on the stages of development of postcolonial Englishes as per Schneider's Dynamic model (2007). The central hypothesis is that local identity manifests linguistically in an increased presence of the vernacular and domestic frames of reference in periods of heightened nationalism. Consequently, the nature of this study is interdisciplinary, combining linguistics with literary and cultural studies to offer a complex picture of the relationship between language and identity via a quantitative as well as qualitative analysis. The quantitative analysis concentrates on keywords, exploring both keywords generated from the corpus, using an analogically created corpus of British literature as reference, and culturally significant keywords, following Wierzbicka's (1997) theory of every culture having a set of keywords that reflect its core values. The generated lists reflect the socio-historical and cultural context, revealing common...
Delay Difference Equations and Their Applications
$\Theta$-metody. Cílem je analyzovat asymptotické vlastnosti numerického řešení těchto rovnic a formulovat jeho horní odhady. Studována je rovněž stabilita vybraných numerických diskretizací. Práce obsahuje také srovnání s dosud známými výsledky a několik příkladů ilustrujících hlavní dosažené výsledky.
Lubrication of plastic gears
Hartl, Petr ; Čermák, Jan (referee) ; Křupka, Jiří (advisor)
The work deals with the process of lubrication of gears from a combination of materials that have significantly different material properties. The experimental measurement is performed on a tribometer in simulated gear contact with a ball-disk configuration. The Chromatic Optical Interferometry method is used to measure the formation of a lubricating film in contact. The purpose of this work is to clarify the process of film thickness formation and compare experimental measurements with predictions, which are valid in Soft EHL regime.
Experimental Study of Lubrication Films Formation During Start-up and Reversal Motion of Rubing Surfaces
Svoboda, Petr ; Dzimko, Marián (referee) ; Čermák, Jan (referee) ; Dobeš, Petr (referee) ; Křupka, Ivan (advisor)
This dissertation is focused on the effects of both artificially produced and real roughness features on mixed lubrication film formation during start-up and reversal of non-conformal contacts operated under rolling/sliding conditions. The start-up operation of mixed lubricated contacts represents one of the transient conditions that bring the risk of the surface damage because of asperities interactions. Chromatic interferograms captured by CMOS high-speed camera during start up of the motion enabled to observe the detailed changes in lubrication film caused by surface features. The observation of the effects of surface dents artificially produced on the ball surface helped to understand better the behaviour of real surface topography. It was found that the presence of shallow surface features can help to separate mixed lubricated rubbing surfaces more efficiently than it could be suggested from the results obtained with smooth surfaces. It can be suggested from the obtain results that properly designed topography of the rubbing surfaces can help to reduce the asperities interactions under transient operational conditions.
Fractional differential equations and their applications
Kisela, Tomáš ; Tomášek, Petr (referee) ; Čermák, Jan (advisor)
Zlomkový kalkulus je matematická disciplína zabývající se vlastnostmi derivací a integrálů neceločíselných řádů (nazývaných zlomkové derivace a integrály, zkráceně diferintegrály) a metodami řešení diferenciálních rovnic obsahujících zlomkové derivace neznámé funkce (tzv. zlomkovými diferenciálními rovnicemi). V této práci představujeme standardní přístupy k definicím zlomkového kalkulu a důkazy některých základních vlastností diferintegrálů. Dále uvádíme krátký přehled metod řešení některých lineárních zlomkových diferenciálních rovnic a vymezujeme hranice jejich použitelnosti. Na závěr si všímáme některých fyzikálních aplikací zlomkového kalkulu.
Model of bipedal walking robot
Čermák, Jan ; Maxa, Jiří (referee) ; Vyroubal, Petr (advisor)
The purpose of this thesis is produce a two-legged walking robot. This robot will be able to walking independently forward, without any assistance of human, after predefined trajectory. Whole thesis includes design of the robot construction, model the robot, following theory related to printing the robot on 3D printer and programming of robot walking.
The effect of physical properties of building materials in buildings in low-energy construction
Svoboda, Martin ; Čermák, Jan (referee) ; Šťastník, Stanislav (advisor)
The theme of the diploma thesis is the study of physical properties of various building materials in buildings in low-energy construction. The work is mainly focused on the influence of the thermal accumulation properties of building materials used in buildings in order to achieve low energy consumption for heating. The thesis compares the energy characteristics of five different constructional material variants of the house.
Stability of Time Delay Feedback Controls of Dynamical Systems
Characterization of basic functions
Petrášová, Anna ; Řehák, Pavel (referee) ; Čermák, Jan (advisor)
This bachelor thesis deals with characterization of basic functions, namely selected elementary and higher functions. Functional equations provide a useful tool for characterizing these functions. There is performed characterization of the linear function, power function and its special cases, logarithmic and exponential function, trigonometric functions and Euler Gamma function.
The solving of ordinary differential equations by means of the Laplace transform method
Klimeš, Lubomír ; Tomášek, Petr (referee) ; Čermák, Jan (advisor)
The Laplace transform is a very powerful mathematical tool for solving of ordinary linear differential equations with constant coefficients. Its usage is wide - it can be applied to first order and also to higher order equations, it is very convenient for solving of differential equations with several forcing terms (including noncontinuous terms) and of course, it can be used for solving of systems of ordinary differential equations. The Laplace transform plays the key role in control theory, where the transformation of the differential equation of the control system enables to analyse the behavior of this system, e. g. its reaction to input values. Our aim was to present essentials of the Laplace transform theory and demonstrate this strong mathematical tool in the solving of concrete problems, including the usage of the software Maple.
