The lyrical subject of the poetry of crepuscolari

A poetic style of crepuscolarism originates in Italy of the beginning of the 20th century. This term is generally used to describe works of so called "poets of twilight". Crepuscolarism marks the beginning of the modern literature in Italy and stands in opposition to the classical literature of 19th century. In comparison to the older poetry, crepuscolari poetry differs, among others, in connection to lyrical subjects - here the relation is clearly negative. The aim of this thesis is to provide both an analysis, and description of Italian crepuscolari poetry, in order to determine the nature of lyrical subjects used. It also compares and contrasts works of the most important poets or Crepuscolarism thier impact on the future generation of Italian poets. After a theoretical introduction, four chapters follow. These are devoted to the most important crepuscolari poets, namely Guido Gozzano, Sergio Corazzini, Marino Moretti, and Aldo Palazzeschi.Here bio-bibliographic information, typical characteristics of their poetry, their understanding of the role of a poet, and relations to lyrical subjects were described in and analysed. Arturo and Agostino: a Comparison Drawn between the Boy Protagonists of the proses by Morante and Moravia

The Bachelor thesis has comparative character and focuses on the comparison drawn between the boy protagonists of the proses L'isola di Arturo by Elsa Morante and Agostino by Alberto Moravia with an emphasis on initiating storyline of both works. In each chapter this thesis compares similarities and differencies between both works and their protagonists. At the same time there are compared authors' approaches to the topic and their choices of style of writing. After the initial presentation of both authors, their proses and their insertion into the literary context the thesis deals with the comparison of both proses and afterwards with the comparison of their protagonists Arturo and Agostino. In the first part of the proses, the perspective of their narrative structure, setting, time and the role of the narrator are studied. Each chapter of the second part of the thesis is focused on the family relationships of the protagonists, their adolescence and awareness of their own sexuality and of their inner world. Both proses are written in the form of the novel and describe the difficult journey of teenagers towards adulthood. Two Garibaldian memorialists: Giuseppe Bandi a Giuseppe Cesare Abba

The subject of this degree paper is the two garibaldian memorialists Giuseppe Bandi and Giuseppe Cesare Abba and their memoirs. The introductory part is directed at the introduction to the Italian Risorgimento with an emphasis on the Expedition of the Thousand and Giuseppe Garibaldi. Following this, there is an overview of literature of Risorgimento, a characterization of the Garibaldian Memorialists and their most important representatives. Furthermore, the paper deals with both authors: their lives, writings and the analysis of their memoirs I Mille and Da Quarto al Volturno. The last part is given over an comparison of Bandi and Abba and their legacy in the current literature.
Enlightenment on the Apennine Peninsula Shown on the Example of Cesare Beccaria and Antonio Genovesi

The subject of this bachelor thesis is the Enlightenment on the Apennine Peninsula. Its introductory part focuses on the characteristics of Enlightenment as a movement, it tracks the Enlightenment's beginnings, its development and its essential figures. After this part follows a description of the situation in the eighteenth century and the enlightened reforms that took place in the area of the Apennine Peninsula. In the two subsequent parts the thesis focuses on two particular personages of the Italian Englightenment, Cesare Beccaria and Antonio Genovesi, on their lives, their philosophy and thein main works, and also on the influence that they had on the future generation of reformers.
The Sonnets by Giuseppe Gioachino Belli

Italian literature does not only deal with literary texts in Italian language, but also with texts written in several Italian dialects. The objective of this thesis aims at introducing the vernacular works by Giuseppe Gioachino Belli, the main representative of the XIX century literary production in Roman dialect. The first chapter deals with the initial linguistic phase in Italy. It will present different types of dialect and, in particular, it will focus on the urban Roman one as well as on the specific features of its use as language adopted by the lowest social strata, that is the common people. It will also briefly cover the linguistic situation in Rome from a historical perspective and the influence of the Tuscan dialect on this city. Finally it will introduce a brief history of the literature written in roman dialect. The second chapter will focus on the historical development of the Papal State between the XVIII and the XIX centuries, during which it was considered as one of the most underdeveloped state of Europe due to its isolation and conservatism. Jews in the Novels by Giorgio Bassani

The subject of this thesis is an analysis of novel's works of Giorgio Bassani, namely Gli occhiali d'oro, Il giardino di Finzi-Contini, Ditero la porta and L'airone. In the introduction the author is presented and his prosaic work is described. Then the analysis of the mentioned works focused on Jewish issues is made. The analysis in the first part persues the question of Judaism and the problem of the alienation and the loss of individual identity. The following charter focuses on fascism in relation to the Jews. The historical context of the fascist era is sketched and explains the changes that were under way in the society and the mind of an individual that are reflected in the author's works. Finally the individual is confronted with the society of Ferrara of which he is eventually excluded as a foreigner.
Jewishness and fascism in works by Primo Levi, Giorgio Bassani and Elsa Morante

The aim of this thesis is to find and analyze thoroughly the elements of Jewishness and fascism in the writings of Primo Levi, Giorgio Bassani and Elsa Morante. We chose the key novels of these authors, where the topic of Jewishness and fascism is present most significantly. Then we made an analysis of these writings, we put emphasis on the topics examined by us and subsequently consequently we compared them. At first we described briefly a political-historical context in Italy after the ascension of fascism and during the war years. Afterwards we focused on individual writers who we firstly introduced in short biographical prefaces and after that we chose the representative writings in which we followed up their conception of the topic of Jewishness and fascism. In conclusion of the thesis we made a comparative analysis of the writings analyzed by us, and we found out that each of these authors had a specific attitude to the topic of Jewishness and fascism. Nevertheless, we noticed some analogies and similarities among the individual authors. For reasons of completeness, we mentioned what place the topic of Jewishness and fascism takes in the context of the total literary output of our chosen authors.
Protagonist in Gabriele D'Annunzio's Rose Trilogy

In this thesis we will focus on D'Annunzio's Novels of the rose cycle, on the character analysis of its protagonists in the light of the specific social-historical interpretation of fin-de- siècle period. After a short introduction dedicated to life and work of the author, we will analyse the three novels with the aid of the works of literary criticism in a way that the major themes and specific characteristics of the novels emerge in their comparative interpretation based on the perspective of significance of the author's work in italian and european literature at that time. In conclusion we will consider the possibility of alternative solutions to decadence for D'Annunzio's protagonists which will bring our discussion into philosophical debate about crisis of misguided european rationalism, the crisis related to the problem of dissolution of subject of identity.
Portuguese influences on Antonio Tabucchi's works

The aim of this thesis is to point out the influences of Portuguese literature and culture on the Italian writer Antonio Tabucchi. The introductory part is principally focused on the key events of his professional life which was influenced by the works of the Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa. We further develope this topic in the next part. Based on the mentioned characteristics, we analyzed four of Tabbucchi's books which are different in their topic and genre as well. Analyzing the primary literature, we focused on the features of the characters, on the background, the historical and political context of the works. In conclusion, we sum up the elements of Tabucchi's works which contributed to the propagation of Portuguese literature in Italy.
Pirandello's Trilogy of the Theatre in the Theatre.

The aim of the thesis called Pirandello's Trilogy of the Theatre in the Theatre is an analysis of three stage plays written by famous Italian writer Luigi Pirandello in pre-war period between years 1921-1930. The introduction, which is focused on Pirandello's life and his theatrical writings, which is divided into four stages: Sicilian theatre, humoristic theatre, theatre in the theatre and theatre of myths. Special attention is devoted to metatheatrical plays. Other chapters are concerned with the analysis of single plays: Six characters in search of an author (Sei personaggi in cerca d'autore), Each in his own way (Ciascuno a suo modo) and Tonight we improvise (Questa sera si recita a soggetto). The closing chapter compare these dramas and try to describe an evolution of characters and performance of theatre on the theatre.
