Drug-related problems as a potential cause of hospitalizations
Očovská, Zuzana ; Vlček, Jiří (advisor) ; Trejtnar, František (referee) ; Urbánek, Karel (referee)
Charles University, Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové Training Workplace Department of Social and Clinical Pharmacy Doctoral Degree Program Clinical and Social Pharmacy Candidate PharmDr. Zuzana Očovská Supervisor prof. RNDr. Jiří Vlček, CSc. Title of Doctoral Thesis Drug-related problems as a potential cause of hospitalizations Introduction and objectives: A drug-related problem is an event or circumstance involving drug therapy that actually or potentially interferes with desired health outcomes. Manifested drug-related problems may contribute to hospital admissions of patients. Such hospital admissions, known as drug-related hospital admissions (DRA), represent a significant and potentially preventable burden on health systems. DRA often arise from the combination of multiple medications, making it important to pay increased attention to drug interactions, particularly in older patients who are taking a larger number of medications. DRA can result from inappropriate medication dosing or the selection of medications in the presence of chronic kidney disease. The main objectives of this thesis are: 1) to determine the prevalence and preventability of DRA and to identify medications and clinical manifestations associated with DRA in patients admitted to hospital via the department of emergency...
Analysis of drug-drug interactions in patients admitted to hospital (II.)
Mašková, Daniela ; Vlček, Jiří (advisor) ; Malý, Josef (referee)
Candidate: Daniela Mašková1 Supervisor: prof. RNDr. Jiří Vlček, CSc.1 Consultant: PharmDr. Zuzana Očovská1 Title of the master thesis: Analysis of drug-drug interactions in patients admitted to hospital (II.) 1 Department Social and Clinical Pharmacy, Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové, Charles University Drug-drug interactions (DDIs) are part of drug-related problems. Drug-related problems can be either potential (possibly leading to real problems for the patient) or manifest (the problem already impacts the patient). This study aims to identify potential DDIs in the medication history of patients acutely admitted to University Hospital Hradec Králové via the department of emergency medicine. The objectives are to determine the prevalence of hospital admissions with at least one potential DDI in the medication history and characterize the identified potential DDIs with respect to their mechanism, severity rating, level of documentation, and potential consequences. Another objectives was to identify medication classes involved in potential DDI. The design of this study is an observational cross-sectional study. The data were obtained from the previous study examining the drug-relatedness of 1252 hospital admissions. For the purpose of my master's thesis, a sample of 378 hospital admissions was...
The image of Ireland and the reflection of the Northern Ireland conflict in Czechoslovakia in the 1970s and 1980s
Vlček, Jiří ; Vojtěchovský, Ondřej (advisor) ; Halama, Vojtěch (referee)
The thesis aims to analyze the perspective on the Northern Irish conflict (The Troubles) presented to its readers by Rudé právo (The Red Right), a periodical publication. The research is based on the premise that Rudé právo expressed the viewpoint of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia (KSČ) and thus the KSČ's stance on the Northern Irish conflict. The study examines the preferences of Rudé právo, and by extension, the KSČ, towards the various conflicting factions in Northern Ireland, along with the factors influencing these preferences. The analysis focuses on articles published in Rudé právo that addressed events in Northern Ireland during the investigated period. Of particular importance for the analysis are contributions from correspondents and associates of Rudé právo abroad, as they are the most comprehensive and prominently reflect the authors' opinions. The scope of the study is chronologically delimited to the years 1970 to 1975, thereby concentrating on the most violent phases of the conflict. Keywords: Northern Ireland, Great Britain, Northern Irish conflict, The Troubles, Rudé právo, Communist Party of Ireland, Communist Party of Czechoslovakia.

Procházková, Jana ; Vlček, Jiří (advisor) ; Doseděl, Martin (referee)
Candidate: Jana Procházková1 Supervisor: prof. RNDr. Jiří Vlček, CSc.1 Consultant: PharmDr. Zuzana Očovská1 Title of the master thesis: Analysis of drug dosage adjustments in patients with chronic kidney disease 1 Department Social and Clinical Pharmacy, Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové, Charles University Several medications excreted by the kidneys or associated with an increased risk for adverse drug events in patient with chronic kidney disease (CKD) require dosage adjustment, cautious use or avoidance. However, a number of studies show that appropriate dosage adjustment is not provided in many cases. Our objective was to analyze appropriateness of drug dosages and contraindicated medications in patients with CKD admitted to the hospital in Hradec Králové via the department of emergency medicine. This study is an observational cross-sectional study and represents a sub-study of the previous study that examined drug-relatedness of unplanned hospital admissions to University Hospital Hradec Králové in 2018. The data were obtained from electronic medical records. The appropriateness of drug use and drug dosages was analyzed in patients with an estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) between 15 and 60 mL/min/1.73 m2 based on comparison with the Summary of Product Characteristics (SmPC). The...

Kartali Kaouni, Marilena ; Vlček, Jiří (advisor) ; Matoulková, Petra (referee)
Title: Analysis of Pharmacotherapy by patients with diagnosis of COPD Student: Marilena Kartali-Kaouni Tutor: Prof. RNDr. Jiri Vlcek, CSc Department of Social and Clinical Pharmacy, Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Kralove Background: " Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is characterized by airflow limitation that is not fully reversible. The airflow limitation is usually both progressive and associated with an abnormal inflammatory response of the lungs to noxious particles or gases". Tobacco smoking is the major risk factor in the development of COPD. COPD is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Aim: 1st from the current literature to understand the nature of COPD and obtain information about the aetiopathogenesis of the disease, diagnosis options and summarize the current view of strategies for achieving the goals of treatment. 2nd in a pilot study to analyze drug therapy in COPD patients visiting a pharmacy in Greece. Methods: 56 prescriptions with the diagnosis of COPD were collected during a period of 8 months from a Greek pharmacy.
