Accessibility of Social Services for Deaf Seniors in the Czech Republic
Veselá, Barbora ; Hudáková, Andrea (advisor) ; Kodymová, Pavla (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with the topic of the provision of social services to the deaf elderly - users of Czech sign language, especially within the Prague area. The aim of the research is to map the possibilities of providing these services and to find out their usability, quality, satisfaction as well as the cooperation of family members while arranging them. The thesis is based on the fact that the topic of the accessibility of social services and the research on the frequency of deaf clients in social care services have not been properly researched yet. The problem is also the lack of professional sources. The theoretical part of this thesis is based on sources of a legislative nature as well as professional sources talking about the provision of social services in general. Later on, it also describes individual organisations providing outreach and ambulatory social services to deaf people and chosen residential services providing such services for the deaf elderly abroad are described here too. The research part of the thesis, which is based on interviews with various groups of respondents, investigates the presence of social services for the deaf elderly in Prague, the representation of deaf clients in regular homes for the elderly and possible methods of communication between the client...

Methods based on optical remote sensing allow nowadays to assess crop conditions over larger areas. The assessment of crop conditions and potential estimation of crop yields in the early growth\nstages can help farmers to better target their management practice such as application of fertilizers. In this study we analysed airborne hyperspectral images acquired several times during the growing season over two experimental sites in the Czech Republic (Ivanovice and Lukavec). The field experiments on winter wheat included 12 levels of fertilisation (combination of organic and mineral fertilisers). Such an experiment design and the possibility of combining the data from two sites together increased the variability in our wheat yield dataset, which varied between 2.8 and 10.0 t/ha. Further, we used a machine learning method – namely gaussian process regression from the ARTMO toolbox to train two variants of models: a) combining the spectral data from both sites and from the multiple acquisition days and b) combining the spectral data from both sites for individual acquisition days. The results showed that it was feasible to predict wheat yield already at the beginning of April with R2 > 0.85. This promising result, however, requires more thorough validation and therefore we plan to include more data from other sites in the next steps.
Interactive effects of adaptation technology, based on no-till sowing into the mulch of cover crop residues, and nitrogen nutrition on photosynthetic performance of maize under drought stress
Opoku, Emmanuel ; Holub, Petr ; Findurová, Hana ; Veselá, Barbora ; Klem, Karel
The aim of this study was to evaluate the interactive effect of adaptation technology based on no-till sowing into cover crop mulch and nitrogen nutrition on photosynthetic performance of maize under short term drought stress induced by rain-out shelters. The experiment was established in two locations in the same climatic condition but differing in soil fertility. The negative effect of drought on CO2 assimilation rate was modulated by nitrogen nutrition. However, while nitrogen nutrition led to alleviating effect at the location with higher fertility, the opposite effect was found at the site with lower fertility. Adaptation technology had only a minor impact on photosynthetic response to drought, but it generally increased CO2 assimilation rate at the site with higher soil fertility and decreased at the site with lower soil fertility. We can conclude that adaptation technology, despite of assumptions, did not significantly change the resilience of maize to drought, and probably longer use of such technology is required to improve soil water retention and thus also balanced supply of water to plants. \nAt the same time, we did not find a negative impact of adaptation technology on photosynthesis which can be related to cooler soil during maize emergence and slower mineralization, although the use of adaptation technology seems to be more effective in soils with higher fertility.
Atmospheric CO2 concentration, light intensity and nitrogen nutrition affect spring barley response to drought and heat stress
Findurová, Hana ; Veselá, Barbora ; Opoku, Emmanuel ; Klem, Karel
The aim of this study was to compare physiological responses of two spring barley varieties,\ndiffering in their oxidative stress tolerance, to drought and heat stress after pre-treatment under different\nirradiation regimes, CO2 concentrations, and nitrogen fertilisation levels. High light intensity, elevated\nCO2, and additional UV radiation increased flavonoid accumulation. Moreover, more flavonoids were\ninduced in oxidative stress-sensitive variety Barke. Combined drought and heat stress caused a large\ndecline in CO2 assimilation, whereas heat stress alone caused only minor changes. Under combined\nstress, plants grown under low light intensity and no UV irradiation performed the best despite their\nhigher initial water use efficiency and lower flavonoids content.

Agricultural production faces with ongoing climate that in Europe takes form of changing seasonal precipitation pattern with more frequent drought spells. These changes come on top of rising air temperature and did and will affect productivity as well as onset and duration of key developmental stages for yield formation of major staple crops such as wheat. In order to ensure stable agricultural production and satisfy demand of the increasing humanpopulation, it is crucial to know responses of major field crops to these abiotic stress factors to assess suitability of genotypes to specific environmental conditions. The aim of this study was to evaluate final yield formation parameters of five winter wheat genotypes cultivated in pots and exposed to two different levels of CO2 concentrations (400 ppm as ambient and 700 ppm as elevated CO2 concentrations) and two water treatments (well- watered control and drought-stressed plants). Theexperimental treatments were set up in growth chambers from the end of heading stage (BBCH 59)to the beginning of ripening stage (BBCH 71) to simulate the conditions under future climate. The results showed that elevated CO2 concentration led to: (1) mitigation of reduction in final yield formation parameters of drought-stressed plants compared to those of control, (2) enhanced results of drought-stressed treatments compared to those of drought-stressed treatments exposed to the ambient CO2 concentration. Pannonia NS was found out as the less responsive genotype to the exposition of CO2 concentration (no statistically significant differences among ambient and elevated CO2 concentrations in all yield formation parameters were identified). On contrary, harvest index of genotype Bohemia was identified as the most sensitive parameter in response to drought stress as well as to the atmospheric CO2 concentration.
Women's awareness about the health risks associated with hormonal contraception.
Veselá, Barbora ; Tomová, Šárka (advisor) ; Švarcová, Eva (referee)
This bachelor thesis "Women's awareness of health hazards associated with usage of hormonal contraception" is focused on the detection of measure of women's awareness of health hazards, undesirable effects and conraindications of hormonal contraception. The thesis is divided into two parts, the theoretical and the experiential one. In the theoretical part I follow the hormonal contraception problems, especially its division, mechanism of effect and start of usage of hormonal contraception. The experiential part includes the investigation and the presentation of results. By means of investigation that was carried out in an anonymous questionnaire way among respondents in gynecological-obstetric medical attendances in Ostrov and Karlovy Vary and in gynecological policlinics in Nemocnice Ostrov and Karlovarská krajská nemocnice, a.s., the measure of women's awareness of hormonal contraception health hazards was reviewed. The results of investigation itself are compared with the results of papers executed earlier.
(Re)construction of Normative (Hetero)sexuality of Persons Addicted on Porn Consumption
Veselá, Barbora ; Baslarová, Iva (advisor) ; Pavlík, Petr (referee)
Barbora Veselá (Re)konstrukce (hetero)normativní sexuality u lidí závislých na pornu a sexu Praha, 2022 Abstract The diploma thesis is focused on the topic of (Re)construction of (hetero)normative sexuality of people addicted to porn and sex. This work, based on a discursive analysis of eight in-depth interviews, aims to answer the main research questions: What is the discoursive practice of people with experience of porn and sex addiction use to (re)construct their own subjectivity in an effort to change their behavior? Then: How do these discourses relate to the dominant gender order? What are the relationships between the individual discourses? What discursive strategies are used? The author of the diploma thesis aims to place the issue both in the global context of the critique of neoliberalism and in the local post-socialist context, as a context in which communication partners live their lives while trying to (re)constitute their subjectivity constantly. The contribution of the thesis lies in the discovery of the discursive practice that accompanies this (re)construction. The conclusion of the thesis is that although the subjects do not embody hegemonic masculinity based on the results of the (re)construction of their subjectivity, their relationship to hegemonic masculinity can be described as...
The media image of coronavirus during the first wave of a pandemic in the Czech Republic in comparison with concerns and the real situation
Veselá, Barbora ; Vinopal, Jiří (advisor) ; Lupač, Petr (referee)
The aim of this bachelor thesis was to analyse media image of coronavirus in Czech Republic during the first wave of pandemic, concerns about the coronavirus at the same period and real situation expressed by daily increase in the number of infected. The analysis showed a connection between these three dimensions. Media image of coronavirus was analyzed by content analysis of ČT1 news and website seznamzpravy.cz, for the analyisis of the development of concerns was used STEM/MARK's research. The resoults showed, that the proportion of media reports related to coronavirus decreased in the selected period and at the same time concerns decreased too. At the same time, the situation was improving in the Czech Republic, as the daily increase in the number of infected people was declining, while in the world the situation was deteriorating. In addition, we found that the media, especially ČT1, changed their thematic focus over the period by focusing more on topics related to the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic, to the detriment of reports related to the infection. Keywords: Media image, concerns, coronavirus pandemic, agenda-setting, content analysis
Obesity uncovered: the case of the Czech Republic
Veselá, Barbora ; Bryndová, Lucie (advisor) ; Bertoli, Paola (referee)
iv Abstract This thesis uncovers the long-term development of overweight and obesity prevalence in the Czech Republic and finds the associations with relevant lifestyle risk factors and determinants of health. Periodically collected interview and examination survey data from 1993 to 2019 are standardised and used to perform a pooled analysis to inspect trends within the cross-sectional units. The binomial logistic regression is used to estimate changes in the odds of being overweight given a set of socio-economic and lifestyle-related predictors, and to inspect time trends in their magnitude and significance. Adjustment to historical data is calculated to account for methodological changes in BMI classification scheme to ensure comparability of survey outcomes. In addition, the response bias in self-reported anthropometric measurements is confirmed and quantified. Finally, the most recent data (2019) for obesity rates are updated accordingly to reflect this finding. The true prevalence of overweight in the Czech adult population is calculated to 75.8% for men and 58.8% for women, which is higher than interview survey results by 7.7 and 9.6 percentage points respectively. These adjusted results may be utilised by users of survey outcomes to build their analyses on validated data, together with other...
