The summary research report provides an evaluation of the procedure and results of the project SS01010257 - Development of tools to minimise the risks of air contamination by respirable asbestos fibres released from the rock environment by human activities (AZROCK). The solved project had two main objectives. The first one was the creation of two methodical instructions, both for the rock and aggregate sampling with a possible naturally occurring asbestos content and for the subsequent analysis of the presence of asbestos fibers in the samples taken. Furthermore, the project set itself the goal of creating: (1) a specialized map of the risk of asbestos occurrence in the rock environment in the Czech Republic and (2) a web knowledge portal of asbestos. A substantial part of the project solution was based on the collection of samples of rocks and aggregates at almost a hundred selected sites throughout the Czech Republic and their subsequent evaluation using a selected and verified set of analytical methods. Similar information on the occurrence of asbestos in the rock environment of the Czech Republic has not yet been available to interested professionals and the non-specialist public.

The content of the presented methodological procedure is guidance on a suitable and reliable method of laboratory analysis of rocks and crushed aggregate for the presence of naturally occurring asbestos. The created methodology follows on from the Methodological guide for sampling to determine the presence of asbestos fibers in rocks, with which it is closely linked. Together, they represent the first methodological documents dealing with the issue of asbestos in rocks and aggregates within the Czech Republic.

This report describes the work carried out in the second year of the public contract Geological and geotechnical characterisation of the rock environment – PVP Bukov II. The\ncharacterisation and descriptive works are directly related to the excavation of the premises for the future underground laboratory. These include in particular: geological and geotechnical documentation of the faces and walls of the workings, petrographic, mineralogical and structural geological documentation, hydrogeological characterisation of the environment, as well as determination of the physical and mechanical properties of the rock mass in situ and in the laboratory, geophysical characterisation and monitoring of the seismic effects of blasting and hydrogeological monitoring. An important part of this report is preparation of the classification system used to describe the rock mass. The report also includes a brief overview of the work planned for the third year of the project.

For designing precisely the reinforcement of mine gate and reinforcing underground structures in general, knowing stress and deformation states in the rock massive in the immediate vicinity of these mine works as precisely as possible is absolutely decisive. In order to verify the rock mass stress state and its changes induced by longwall mining, the monitoring of rock mass stress changing in connection with the mine out of the coal seam No. 501, longwall face No. II/501/C in the Mine Staszic-Wujek, Poland, was suggested. The aim of the contractual research was the realisation and interpretation of the rock stress state monitoring using the CCBO (Compact Conical ended Borehole Overcoring method) and CCBM (Compact Conical ended Borehole Monitoring method) probes in the forefield of mentioned longwall face within geotechnical station. To verify stress monitoring, the survey of the state of the longwall gate was carried out using a pulse 3D scanner. The purpose was to capture deformation changes ahead of the advancing longwall face, specifically, at five stages in the ± 20 m section on each side from the installed geotechnical station.

Final Report of the Project „Data Acquisition from the Deep Horizons of the Rožná Mine“ presents the results of the study of rock mass properties with respect to the presence of a significant tectonic zone. The study focused on the change of properties in the vicinity of the so-called first zone of the Rožná deposit, but also on the change of these properties with a depth of 12–24. floor of the former mine, 550-1200 m below the surface. Realized works included geological, petrographic, geochemical description of the rock environment, geophysical work (esp. seismics), study of physico-mechanical properties of rocks, transport experiments and deposit revalidation of the Rožná deposit. All work was carried out for the purpose of describing the studied zone and its manifestation with an emphasis on ensuring the safety of the potential location of the deep geological repository.
Evaluation of fracture response of Silesian granite specimens via Effective Crack Model approach and finite element analysis
Malíková, L. ; Vavro, Leona ; Vavro, Martin ; Keršner, Z.
The paper is focused on the advanced evaluation of fracture tests of selected rock specimens. Assessment of fracture response of chevron notch cylindrical specimens of Silesian granite subjected to three-point bending test was performed. The effective crack model is used and academic software chevroncylinder (author Petr Frantík) based on the finite element method is applied for the analyses. Based on the described procedures, estimation of maximum values of the effective fracture toughness are established and discussed.
Characterization of Božanov sandstone: pilot fracture tests
Kumpová, I. ; Rozsypalová, I. ; Vavro, Leona ; Vavro, Martin ; Keršner, Z.
The aim of this paper is a characterization ofsandstone from Božanov quarry near Broumov, Czech Republic,by means of the pilot fracture tests. Five drill-core test specimens withnominal diameter of 50mm and lengths of 100 and 125mmwere provided by an initial chevron type notch. Specimens were loaded in the configuration of the three-point bending as a displacement driven experimentusing LabTest 6.250 equipment in the laboratory of the Institute of Building Testing, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Brno University of Technology. The load versus displacement diagrams were used to quantify the basic mechanical fracture parameters of the studied sandstone: modulus of elasticity, fracture toughness, toughness, and specific fracture energy.
