The Status of Non-Governmental Organisations in International Law on the Example of the Russian Federation

Title of the dissertation: The Status of Non-Governmental Organisations in International Law on the Example of the Russian Federation Abstract The dissertation deals with the status of non-governmental organisations in international law. It approaches this issue from two perspectives. The first is the international law regulation of non-governmental organisations in the international system. The second is the question of the impact of international law on the regulation of non-governmental organisations at the national level. These two perspectives are interrelated since, without compliance with the requirements of international law at the national level, non-governmental organisations cannot be active at the international level. The dissertation demonstrates this thesis on the example of the Russian Federation, which has adopted legislation on non-governmental organisations that severely restricts their functioning and very existence in the last ten years. The first part of the dissertation examines the status and regulation of non-governmental organisations in international law. Information warfare and its impact on the relationship between Europe and the Russian Federation

The first chapter of the thesis describes theoretical definition of information warfare, tools of information manipulation and the most frequent communication channels. In the second chapter, the thesis discusses information warfare in the Euro-Russian conflict, with an emphasis on the Czech Republic. The third chapter is dedicated to the impact of the information warfare on the relationship between Europe and Russia, to the establishment of ad hoc institutions against disinformation and to the influence of political development in the international environment.
Truth commissions: Truth commissions' mandates and its significance in the truth seeking process

Truth commissions are official nonjudicial bodies of investigation created to address grave violations of human rights committed under the previous repressive regime or during the past armed conflict. Commissions are created to establish an authoritative record of past violations, to discover its causes and to make reccommendations in order to prevent its reccurence in the future. The thesis focuses on commission's mandates,legal documents that determine its goals, functions, powers and scope of inquiry. The aim of the thesis is to assess the significance of the mandate in the truth-seeking process and to determine if a broad mandate is well suited to achieve goals of the commission or if a narrow mandate is more expedient. The thesis assesses and compares mandates of truth commissions established in Argentina (1983), South Africa (1995), Guatemala (1997) and Kenya (2009).
Guantánamo: have all international legal questions been answered?

Through tragic events of September 11, 2001, the United States has adopted unprecedented measures regarding the treatment and detention of captured terrorists. The thesis deals with international legal questions associated with operation of detention centre Guantánamo Bay, Cuba. The main aim is to find out how have these questions been answered by examining academic writings and provisions of international law, in particular provisions of International humanitarian law and International human rights law. As a historical introduction, this thesis starts with a brief overview of the history of Guantánamo Bay. The second part focuses on four topics: the definition of conflict, status of detainees, indefinite detention and torture and enhanced interrogation techniques. Each of the topics is being viewed through the lenses of international law as well as US domestic law while describing the development of the problem and current situation.
Economic Paradiplomacy – Spanish Experience

The diploma thesis deals with the topic of economic paradiplomacy, which connects the issues of economic diplomacy and paradiplomacy. It is focused on goals of subnational units within their economic paradiplomacy and their determination in comparison to goals in the economic diplomacy of state. The thesis puts a special emphasis on Spain and it is dedicated to two Spanish regions: Catalonia and Valencian Community. It introduces the aims and subjects of economic diplomacy of Spain, Catalonia and Valencian Community. The final chapter compares all three entities and their approach to the economic diplomacy.
MERCOSUR & Alianza del Pacífico - challanges and potential of integration in Latin America

Latin America, at the moment, is not the main focus point of international politics. However, its situation makes it a potentially economically and politically interesting region, because it lies in the proximity of USA, has ties to East Asia and is historically and culturally linked to Europe. In order to make their mark in the world system, Latin American nations integrate into various blocs. The most prominent blocs right now are longstanding MERCOSUR and new dynamic Alianza del Pacífico. The main aim of this thesis is to evaluate strengths and weaknesses and identify potential threats and opportunities of/for MERCOSUR and AP in the context of Latin-American integration.
Public diplomacy in practice - The USA towards Cuba

The bachelor thesis deals with the current public diplomacy, especially in case of the USA in relationship towards Cuba. The aim of the thesis is to analyze the changes of USA-Cuban bilateral relations that have started to develop after restoring the diplomatic relations including usage of means of public diplomacy. The work is divided into three chapters. The first chapter provides basic characteristics of current public diplomacy, its dimensions, threats and its practice done by large states. The second chapter is dedicated to american public diplomacy, its development in the twentieth and twenty-first century and its tools that are used nowadays. The last chapter deals with public diplomacy in specific case of USA and Cuba and shortly decsribes history of their bilateral relations, from the interruption to their reestablishment. The thesis also focuses on changes that are connected to the reestablishment, involving specifically usage of tools of public diplomacy.
Evaluating the success of states' penetration into UN structures

The aim of this diploma thesis is to evaluate the success of penetration of selected states into selected UN structures. The analysis will be based on fifteen countries comparable to the Czech Republic according to population, GDP and Human Development Index. The success of the penetration will be monitored in three main UN bodies: Security Council, International Court of Justice and the Economic and Social Council, and one subsidiary body: Human Rights Council.
Agricultural sanctions as a tool of foreign policy of the Russian federation

The goal of the thesis is to examine a sanction strategy of Russia by so called sanitary measures, which are used in cases, when announcement of official sanctions is not appropriate for some reason. The strategy is analysed with the help of eight cases in eight countries during the last fifteen years. For these cases, known as trade wars, their development, official and unofficial reasons, political and economic results for both sides are indicated.
Respect for Human Rights and Transnational Corporations: Coca-Cola Case Study

This bachelor thesis deals with the issue of violation of human rights by transnational corporations on a case of Coca-Cola. The theoretical part explains the international legal responsibility of individual subjects of the international environment and the issue of non-binding international legal standards for the issue of transnational corporations and human rights. In the empirical part, the thesis tries to answer the question of to what extent and which specific human rights Coca-Cola violates and analyses the behaviour of the company when confronting states and their citizens for violating their rights.
