Victory was near, but the power of the bastions could not be undone. Summer campaign of 1758 and the Siege of Olomouc
Prokop, Daniel ; Koldinská, Marie (advisor) ; Stellner, František (referee)
The Seven Years' War is now considered by many to be the first conflict on a global scale, as it was fought in Europe, Asia and North America. The bachelor's thesis will deal with one important episode of it, namely the summer campaign in Moravia in 1758 and the related siege of Olomouc by the troops of Frederick II. This clash had a significant influence on the development of the whole conflict. It was only the second major defeat of the Prussian monarch in this war. More importantly, however, it put a definitive end to the Prussian chances of capturing Moravia and later campaigning for Vienna. Instead, they were then forced to retreat to the defensive and return to Silesia. The thesis will briefly explain the circumstances of the conflict. After that, the work will deal more with the summer months of 1758. The dispositions and strategies of both sides will be described in more detail, as well as their objectives and military tactics. Finally, the reasons for the Prussian defeat will be explained, as well as the significance of the whole encounter for the conflict between Prussia and the Habsburg monarchy, and consequently for the war as a whole.

The first researched question was whether Marie was being prepared to be a ruler as a child, or if her academic upbringing was just that of a good, Christian woman. This paper serves to analyze written sources describing topics such as Maries' coronation, her royal entry, or her role as a Queen-consort, and answer any possible questions regarding the differentiation of the first female ruler with her father, king Henry VIII and his first queen-consort, Katherine Aragon. Her marriage was also a rather important question. The paper looks at how getting married influenced her position on the English throne - did she keep her status as the sole queen of England, or was she presented more in line with her gender, that being the role of a queen-consort? The paper answers these questions over the course of the thesis and, through the use of gender analysis and historical anthropology, comes to concrete conclusions. While sources often contradicted each other, one describing any described event...

Nestor Ivanovych Makhno and bolshevism
Frynta, Jakub ; Stellner, František (advisor) ; Doubek, Vratislav (referee)
The bachelor thesis analyses the relations between N. I. Makhno - makhnovshchina - and the Bolsheviks in the years 1918-1922. These relationships are characterised as dynamic due to frequent conflicts and divisions. The thesis asks what factors influenced these relations and what role the makhnovshchina played in them during the civil war in Russia. It also examines the formation of Makhno's political views and explores his attitude towards Bolshevism. The author assumes that Makhno's relationship with the Bolsheviks was primarily shaped by his optimistic vision of building an anarchist society. This vision indirectly transformed makhnovshchina into an ‚extended arm of Bolshevism'. Methodologically, the work is based on political history. The biographical method is used to understand the political actions of the protagonist. The relationship between Makhno - makhnovshchina - and the Bolsheviks can be characterized as ambivalent. They were based on the same interests, consisting in the defeat of the White Army, but with different objectives, which gradually led to confrontation. In spite of this, makhnovshchina to some extent helped to consolidate the power of the Bolsheviks in Russia more quickly.

The analysis of correspondence between the tsar Ivan IV the Terrible and the Prince Andrej Kurbskij
Brůha, Petr ; Stellner, František (advisor) ; Picková, Dana (referee)
In my study I tried to reveal the subject-matter of the correspondence between the tsar Ivan IV the Terrible and the prince Andrej Kurbskij considering historical relations in the easterneuropian region in the second third of 16th century. Together with the content of each single letter I focused on the scope and the overall course of this correspondence, even the scientifical controversy about its credibility. Except the main topic, this study contains a historical introduction with the information about both authors and about evolution of the relationship between the tsar and russian nobility. Influenced by tsar`s and prince`s different views on the same events, there are some issues to be found in the correspondence and I attempted to compare them with more or less succces. The conclusion contains the results arising from the bibliography or straight from the correspondence.
