Translation in contemporary propaganda service

This thesis explores the phenomenon of manipulation in translation for propaganda purposes. Given the current global events, issues related to manipulation, propaganda, fake news, and disinformation are becoming increasingly pertinent not only in the Czech context but worldwide. The objective of this thesis is to investigate whether translations undergo manipulation and whether this manipulation serves propaganda purposes. For the analysis, 14 newspaper articles from Czech information servers, exhibiting characteristics of propaganda sources and blocked in 2022, were selected as a representative sample based on the chosen topic. These articles indicate their origin from Russian information servers. The analysis of the selected sample primarily focused on identifying expressive shifts according to Anton Popovich's categorization, particularly in the microstylistic dimension. Conclusions were drawn based on whether the assessed sample underwent manipulation during translation. The analysis results indicate that manipulation occurred primarily in the selection of translated information and using editing.

The aim of this Bachelor's Thesis is to present annotated translation of historical- documentary text. In this case, it is a selected part from one chapter of the book "Donos na Sokrata" by Vitalij Shentalinskij. In the commentary attention was paid not only to problems at various language levels, but also to cultural and the other influences. The theoretical part, which is based on Czech and Slovakian theoretical works of Jiří Levý and Anton Popovič, could also help to facilitate deeper understanding the role of the translator and alternative ways of how the translator can deduce a solution to particular translation problems. Analysis of Russian subtitles for the fairy tail Three Wishes for Cinderella

The aim of this thesis is to present the specificities related to audio-visual translation, namely the subtitling of fairy tales, the specificities that manifest both in relation to the target audience and to the national tradition associated with a certain fairy tale. Their manifestations are then examined in a comparative analysis, in which it is evaluated how successfully the translation transferred sections strongly stipulated in the cultural context of the source culture into the target language. The thesis consists of two parts: theoretical and analytical. In the theoretical part, the thesis focuses on the specificities of subtitling, the subtitling community and the specific issues that a translator should address in relation to subtitles intended for a child audience. The theoretical part also focuses on translation strategies used in subtitle production, with particular attention paid to Henrik Gottlieb's model, whose classification is then used in subtitle evaluation. Finally, this section is devoted to the problem of translating fairy tales, which have their own tradition and diction in each country. A comparative analysis of the latest Czech translation of the novel Idiot by F. M. Dostoevsky

This thesis explores the latest Czech translation of the novel The Idiot by F. M. Dostojevky rendered by Libor Dvořák (2020). This translation is compared with the previous published translations from three Czech translators: Stanislav Minařík (2014), Bohumil Mathesius (2007) and Tereza Silbernáglová (2005). The main purpose of this thesis is to find out whether the translation by Libor Dvořák brings innovations in comparison with previous published works and to emphasize how it differs from the existing translations. The analysis and comparison of the newest translation is leading to the conclusion that the new Czech version of F. M. Dostoevsky's novel The Idiot was beneficial, especially in terms of transfering of linguistic and artistic values of the original to the Czech readers.

This bachelor thesis provides an annotated translation of selected chapters from the book Nepridumannaia istoriia russkoy kukhni (Pavel Siutkin & Olga Siutkina, 2011). It is a popular science publication on the history of Russian cuisine. The translation focuses on the chapters "Kazan - bral, Аstrakhan - bral…" and Таk chto zhe takoye russkaia kukhnia? The thesis consists of two main parts - the translation and the expert annotation. The second part contains a translation analysis of the source text, a description of the translation procedures and an analysis of specific translation problems including their solutions. The annotation is based both on theoretical knowledge and on practical examples from the text.

Inner emigratation of Jan Zábrana and Osip Mandelstam

Diploma thesis Inner Emigration of Jan Zábrana and Osip Mandelstam examines the relationship between a poet (Osip Mandelstam) and his translator who is also a poet (Jan Zábrana). It shows connections between their life experiences, and the way these moments affected their own poetics. Simultaneously, it finds out if and to which degree Mandelstam- poet influenced the poetry of Jan Zábrana. The analytical part of the thesis compares Czech translations (by Jan Zábrana and Jiří Kovtun) of Mandelstam's poems Петербургские строфы, Концерт на вокзале, Еще не умер ты...

Multiple Sclerosis: Corticoid and Biological Therapy, Importance of Pedagogy in Rehabilitation

The submitted thesis deals with the theme of a neurodegenerative autoimmune disease, the sclerosis multiplex. Although this serious disease has become an object of intensive research in recent decades and there is an inexhaustible quantity of literature available, we haven't yet fully identified the causes of this disease as well as we haven't found such kind of effective treatment that would lead to the permanent recovery of patients. I focused my interest on two main spheres: first, the description and comparison of practices in terms of pharmacotherapy giving priority to its benefits to patients, second, the view of another important but not always appreciated part of therapy, physiotherapy or rehabilitation; the main point is studying of processes and actions from the pedagogical point of view.
