Teaching volumes and surfaces of round solids in high school with the support of a web application
Rakušanová, Lucie ; Robová, Jarmila (advisor) ; Moravcová, Vlasta (referee)
This thesis is focused on the volume and surface area of solids, particularly on the volume and surface area of polyhedra and round solids, which are part of the high school curriculum of geometry (stereometry). The purpose of website is to provide supporting and complementary material for students as well as for their teachers. The website con- tains several photographs, illustrations and interactive components that make it easier to understand the topics. Interactive elements include applets created in a dynamic geometry application called GeoGebra, hyperlinks, and step-by-step exercise solving. Furthermore, the thesis is supplemented by solved problems and a final summary test. 1
Web application for teaching loci of points
Tarabíková, Aneta ; Robová, Jarmila (advisor) ; Moravcová, Vlasta (referee)
This thesis discusses loci of points. The thesis is constructed as a website which should assist mathematic education in primary schools and especially high schools. The thesis revises loci of points, which is taught in schools. Apart from that, it covers the extensive topic of loci of points and conic sections defined with the help of centers of circles with specified characteristics. The website is enhanced by interactive elements, such as applets and step-by-step exercises, which help understand the topic of discussion. 1
Tablet integration from the perspective of teaching mathematics
Suleymanova, Julianna ; Robová, Jarmila (advisor) ; Příhonská, Jana (referee) ; Samková, Libuše (referee)
The dissertation thesis investigates students' and teachers' attitudes towards using tablets in mathematics lessons at the lower-secondary level. The study analyzes how the attitudes change during a one-year implementation of tablets. The research conducted within the dissertation includes two studies, in each of which three questionnaires were distributed among students and teachers at several middle schools in the USA; specifically, the author's questionnaires, the TPACK and TAM questionnaires were applied in the research. Data from the questionnaires were supplemented with interviews and observations of lessons. In addition, the obtained data were analyzed using a combination of statistical methods and a qualitative analysis. The research shows what students and teachers like or dislike about using tablets in mathematics classes and shows factors that influence students' and teachers' attitudes towards using tablets. The results of the research reveal that during the school year there was a negative shift in students' attitudes towards the integration of tablets into mathematics classes. However, despite this negative shift in attitudes, 74 % of students wanted to continue using tablets in mathematics classes. Teachers' attitudes to the integration of tablets into mathematics classes also...
Websites for teaching of geometric transformations at secondary school
Dobiášová, Kateřina ; Robová, Jarmila (advisor) ; Šír, Zbyněk (referee)
As a part of this thesis existing web pages about planar geometrical transformations were evaluated and new web pages were created. Pages in Czech and in English language were evaluated shortly verbally. There is a table summarizing findings about existing web pages at the end of this part. The second part of this thesis contains newly created web pages. Scope of subject matter of created web pages overreaches common secondary school curriculum. There are Java applets used for illustrating findings about geometrical transformations as an integral part of web pages. Solving of exercises is accompanied by step-by-step operation. Web pages contain definitions, theorems with proofs and explanations of constructions.
Geometric transformation in secondary school mathematics with the support of internet
Ptáčková, Tereza ; Robová, Jarmila (advisor) ; Štěpánová, Martina (referee)
This work deals with geometric transformation in a plane in high school mathematics. The work is a web page, it contains several interactive components which help student to understand the problem like hyperlinks or stepping of the construction. The work contains several solved problems. Main emphasis is placed on illustration of problems in the form of drawings and construction. The illustration is better by using of applets. The applets show the steps of the construction one after another as the students proceed with the con- struction on a sheet of paper. Together with each step of construction its symbolic description is showed. Created web page could be used by high-school students as well as tea- chers to demonstrate the problem.
Exponential, logarithmic equations and their system with use of internet
Řezáč, Miroslav ; Robová, Jarmila (advisor) ; Odvárko, Oldřich (referee)
The aim of this diploma thesis is to develop a good teaching tool for study- ing exponential and logarithmic equations at the secondary school. It is not a textbook but an interactive website which contains dynamic elements and tests that can help stu- dents understand this subject matter. The website should mainly serve secondary school students as a supplementary study material. In the first chapter of the work the existing websites devoted to this theme are discussed and evaluated. On the basis of these and other educational sites the autor created a new website.
Use of internet in teaching of goniometric equations and inequalities
Kepič, Matúš ; Robová, Jarmila (advisor) ; Odvárko, Oldřich (referee)
Title: Use of internet in teaching of goniometric equations and inequalities Author: Matúš Kepič Department: Department of Mathematics Education Supervisor: RNDr. Jarmila Robová, CSc. Supervisor's e-mail address: robova@karlin.mff.cuni.cz Abstract: This work serves as a teaching material for pupils and teachers of secondary school. It deals with subject of goniometrical equations and inequalities. The work contains a theoretical part where is clearly explained the basic theoretical knowledge of the goniometrical equations and inequalities. The emphasis is on practical section that contains the solved examples and the problems for practice which is accompanied by stepping solution. The work has a form of a web application, contains interactive elements (for example. step-by-step solution, multiple choice tests). It is freely accessible on the Internet. The work is accompanied by a CD, where is this thesis in .pdf format. Keywords: trigonometric functions, goniometrical equations, inequalities goniometrical
Inequalities for talented pupils of high schools
Šalom, Pavel ; Robová, Jarmila (advisor) ; Boček, Leo (referee)
The thesis contains a textbook for high school pupils. The aim of the textbook is to teach the reader how to solve problems concerning inequalities proposed at czech or international mathematical competitions for high school pupils. In the first part we present some basic ineqaulities (AG, Cauchy's inequality) and we show how to understand them and how to use them. In the second part we broaden reader's horizon by presenting rearrangement and Jensen's inequality. In the third part we present widely applicable methods such as "Abstract Concreteness Method" or "Sum of Squares Method". Some techniques concerning the Sum of Squares Method were written by Phan Kim Hung in 2006. We are trying to significantly involve the reader. We prefer just hints to many of the proposed problems rather than complete solutions and we give some harder problems to solve at the end of each part. 1
Derivative and its application in high school mathematics with use of Internet.
Trnka, Karel ; Robová, Jarmila (advisor) ; Odvárko, Oldřich (referee)
The aim of this diploma thesis is to create derivative-focused web pages as a new part of a high school mathematics educational web portal. The web portal is operated by the Department of Mathematics Education, Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University in Prague. It is primarily intended as an additional learning resource for high school students. The diploma thesis consists of two main parts. The first part describes a search for and evaluation of similar web pages in Czech, Slovak, English and Hebrew, which deal with the topic of derivative. The second part details the creation of new web pages. In creating the web pages the author integrated interactive elements based on JavaScript, and interactive applets created with use of GeoGebra software. To display mathematical expressions on the web, the author used the technology MathJax, which works with languages of the typesetting systems TeX and LaTeX.
