At the common part there is briefly summarized the historical evolution of close-to-nature silviculture. It also mentions basic nature processes that occur at native forests. The thesis proposes several possible manuals of forest converting. It refers to farming in municipal forests too. In detailed part it analysis farming and nature conditions of the property and it focuses mainly at forest regeneration and stands tending. The results of analysis are being discussed. In conclusion the thesis recommends this type of silviculture mainly for prevention gene pool of forests species.
Analysis and modeling of the structure and development of mixed forest stands in the Sudety mountains
Vacek, Zdeněk ; Remeš, Jiří (advisor) ; Hlásny, Tomáš (referee)
The thesis deals with analysis and modeling of the structure and development of selected mixed forests in protected areas of the Sudeten system, especially in the Giant Mountains national parks, Protected Landscape Area Broumovsko and Orlické Mountains, but also in other areas of the Czech Republic. This study is composed of a set of six published manuscripts that are covering three thematic ranges: structure of forest stands, regeneration of forest stands and forest modeling. The main objective of this work was to evaluate a vertical, horizontal and species structure, total diversity and development of mixed forest stands in central Sudetes. The partial aim was to analyse production parameters of forest stands, effect of microrelief and game on natural regeneration and assessment of dead wood in the area of interest. Further, the objective of the study was to develop explicit and non-explicit crown width and slenderness quotient models for Norway spruce (Picea abies L.) and European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) and to predict the development of mixed forest ecosystem using growth simulations and to evaluate parameters and interactions among stand structure, climatic factors and natural regeneration, using especially analysis of variance, correlation matrix, spatial statistic and multivariate analysis. For this purpose a system of permanent research plots was used, which are regularly monitored since 1980 or were newly established. Using mapping technology FieldMap, selected parameters were measured for tree layer, natural regeneration individuals and dead wood. The results showed that the spatial distribution of beech stands in optimum stadium changes with the altitude from the regular pattern through random to aggregated spatial pattern of beech forests near the timberline. The spatial distribution of natural regeneration is highly aggregated, distribution of stumps is random and horizontal structure of the centroids of the crowns is always more regularly distributed than stems due to crown plasticity. Browsing damage of the leading shoot by game is an important limiting factor for height growth of natural regeneration, especially for silver fir (Abies alba Mill.), rowan (Sorbus aucuparia L.) and sycamore maple (Acer pseudoplatanus L.). The study of the influence of microrelief on the growth of beech regeneration showed that the highest average height was found on slope and pits, while the lowest on the mounds. From the effect of climatic factors on the radial growth of trees, it was found that temperature is a limiting factor for growth in mountain areas, respectively that positive effect of temperature decreases with decreasing altitude and conversely the influence of precipitation increases. Finally, spatially explicit models (as opposed to non-explicit) described a larger part of the crown width variations for spruce and beech and of the slenderness quotient for spruce. The largest contribution to the models after breast diameter was dominant height.
Qualitative evaluation of production and qualitative increment in stands at forest district Klokočná
Švec, Otakar ; Remeš, Jiří (advisor) ; Pulkrab, Karel (referee)
This thesis investigates the production and economic characteristics of forest stands in transformation process from even-aged forest stands to irregular forest stands. In the research area of Forest District Klokočná originally pure pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) and spruce (Picea abies L.) stands are being transformed to stands with complex forest structure characterized by selection harvest with the purpose of production and struc-tural equilibrium. Data was collected from eighteen 0.25 ha study plots; nine of them on forest develop-ment type (FDP) A -- acidic forest sites (predominantly 3K - Querceto-Fagetum aci-dophilum) and nine on FDP B -- waterlogged forest sites (predominantly 4P - Querce-to-Abietum variohumidum acidophilum). Within each study plot all woody stems of diameter more than 10 cm were measured. For each stem, the diameter in mm at 1.3 m above ground (dbh), the total height and the crown height (hypsometer Vertex, accuracy 0.1 m) were measured. For selected trees in particular diameter classes increment cores were sampled. For each FDP and stand structural segment a set of trees was sampled before and after the harvest and local assortment tables were crated for spruce and pine. Based on sampled data, financial value of standing timber, annual value incre-ment and target diameter for spruce and pine were calculated. Based on research results it is shown that lower homogeneity of forest stands has led to higher diameter increment of individual trees. On the contrary, negative effect of higher structural complexity of forest stands is lower quality of spruce timber in the range of 3 -- 4% per 1 m3. Generally better quality of pine and spruce timber, and thus also higher value, was confirmed for the FDP A. In this FDP target diameters for both investigated tree species are 8 -- 13 cm higher than for FDP B. It is concluded that forest transformation has strong impact on the production and eco-nomic characteristics of forest stands in the Forest District Klokočná, nevertheless studied forest stands still cannot be considered as stands with ideal selection structure in production and economic optimum. For future transformation efforts model charac-teristics differentiated according to site and structural characteristics are needed.
Analysis of poplar cultivation in the Forest district Vlčany (Forest Administration Nitra, FSR, s.e.)
Csányi, Peter ; Remeš, Jiří (advisor) ; Podrázský, Vilém (referee)
The graduation Theses deals with cultivation methods of poplar clonec on Danube lowlands in the river basin of river Váh. This work defines the main clones which are cultivated in the area of Forest administration Nitra, and rates their growing and production potential together with the detailed description of each used clones. In the Theses, properties and location needs have been described and compared with each other. Document also shows how resistant poplar clones are against biotic and abiotic elements and how these elements influence reproduction. We briefly depicted chemical properties and chemical values found in the poplar wood. The aim of the work was to measure two poplar stands, Robusta and I214 and determine their volume and other dendrometric units so that we were able to compare the first biometrical parameters. Measurations approved that the cultivation of the crossbred poplar clones is a perspective and progressive method for the production of either a high quality timber assortment and split pulpwood.
Questionnaire survey among students of selected secondary forestry (vocational) schools as confrontation of ideas and possibilities in the labour market.
Miličková, Tereza ; Hrib, Michal (advisor) ; Remeš, Jiří (referee)
This diploma work is focused on the research of students, who are attending secondary forestry (vocational) schools in The Czech Republic. The main goal was to find out the characteristics of current students at these schools and their motives to start studying exactly forestry. Another aim was to analyse the situation of secondary forestry schools, especially if the number match the need of labour market. For this purpuse, a questionnary survey was carried out among the students of 5 traditional secondary forestry schools (in Trutnov, in Zlutice, in Krivoklat, in Hranice and in Pisek), who are in their 2nd or 3rd year of Forest Mechanic on vocational school or in their 3rd or 4th year of Forestry on secondary school. Totaly 215 respondents answer the questionnary. The results clearly show, that the students still come from the countryside and are interested in the field of their study. However, they have no specific idea about their future work and only several of them arrange a job before they leave the school. Moreover the number of graduates, produced every year by the schools, several times outnumbered the need of labour market. On the other hand the number of students in vocational schools, not only in forestry, is slowly increasing every year. Therefore there is a possibility, that in the future lower job in forestry would be done more often by fully qualified workers.
Demonstration object of forest stands conversion in the regional district Modrava (NP Šumava) - analysis of the initial state
Buršíková, Rút ; Remeš, Jiří (advisor) ; Jan, Jan (referee)
This work establishes demonstration object of close-to-nature management in Šumava National Park. Demonstration object represents habitats of acidophilous beech-spruce forests. Considering that spruce forests occur in unnatural proportion in even-aged monocultures, there has been proposed reconstruction of current forest stands in structurally rich forests. This work analyses initial state of the forest stands and present forestry management, including grazing management which is a necessary step for suitable management proposal. Detail monitoring takes place on specified parts of demonstration object. Six permanent round-shaped plots were established, each of 0,1ha. Three of the plots are localized in 31 years old pole timber stand without any stand tending. Conversion by stabilizing thinning has been started here, using the method of target trees. Thinning focused on stability support, because the forest stands were significantly damaged by grazing. Other three permanent plots are localized in 61 years old tended forest stands. Thinning is recommended in these sites as well to support stability of forest stand and support of future target trees.
Evaluation of growth of beech plantations (Fagus sylvatica L.) in dependence on used reproduction material and site-ecological conditions.
Florián, Tomáš ; Remeš, Jiří (advisor) ; Bílek, Lukáš (referee)
Abstract On the Forest district Strašice, which is located at the Division Hořovice, Military Forests and Farms was founded in 2012 eight plots on 4 wooded clearings. Boots were afforested beech (Fagus sylvatica L.). Forestation was on these plots used simpleroot planting stock a indoorroot planting stock. Another criterion was the intensity of sunlight seedlings (permanent sunshine / shading; during the day changing insolation). The aim of this thesis is to evaluate the growth of seedlings depending on the planting stock and intensity of solar radiation. Subsequently, the proposed recommendations, which would be appropriate to deal with in practice. Seedlings were permanently marked with a unique letter and number. From 2012 until 2014 at the end of the growing season measured growth variables - root collar diameter, height of seedlings, height increment, quality features and mortality. Top maturing seedlings on an area where it was used in afforestation simpleroot planting stock material and irradiation area during the day alternating shading. Not permanently sunlit and shaded. On the contrary, indoorroot planting stock material is higher on permanently sunlit area than in permanently shaded. This result is identical to the results of other well-oriented work. The results and conclusions of this thesis is planted beech recommendations on areas where direct exposure varies during the day with the shading (light - shadow). However, it is not always possible and feasible, in terms of the internal structure of vegetation planted beech at said place. It is therefore possible to plant bare planting material surfaces with extreme lighting conditions (areas permanently sunlit or shaded). But what concerns simpleroot planting stock material it is advisable to observe the fact that much better grows in areas with favorable conditions (areas with alternating irradiation and shading). It is also necessary to comply with environmental requirements beech. Always determine the most appropriate place on the bare surface (Clearfelling) for the planting of beech. Use only high quality planting material conforming to CSN 482115. Professional supervision forester at cut the grass work quality and functionality over the fence, and thus mitigate damage by animals. Therefore seek the highest possible representation of planted trees (to comply with the statutory requirements for supportability) due to the selection of the best individuals in the education and creating the future quality and healthy growth.
Analysis of Norway spruce stands tending in the territory of the Oravské Veselé village
Tomašák, David ; Remeš, Jiří (advisor) ; Bílek, Lukáš (referee)
This thesis is about a research of the way of thinning in forests owned by private owners in the cadastral territory of municipality Oravské Veselé. There were found particular stand characteristics in the area of interest. The data collection took place on eight square research plots with the dimension 30 x 30 m. These plots were placed in three stands for the purpose of higher amount of collected data linked to this issues. These are the collected data recalculated for area of 1 ha: reserve 441 m3, number of peaces 1553 pcs. The collected data exceed the model data used in the Czech Republic for more than 20% and this means the researched stands are classified as stands with neglected thinning. This is the reason for a special care during the future thinning otherwise a decline of the stand threatens. Because of the similarity of these stands a model for the thinning with particular interventions was suggested. These interventions are necessary for the future thinning.
