Selected contemporary ethical issues of journalists'self-branding in the era of digital media network
Šponerová, Adéla ; Moravec, Václav (advisor) ; Osvaldová, Barbora (referee)
This thesis examines the impact of the process of personal branding in the era of networked digital media on the Czech media scene. With the emergence of new technologies and social networks, society and media have undergone significant transformations, which have led, for example, to changes in the norms of the journalistic profession. The paper focuses on the process of branding in journalism and identifies ethically controversial aspects related to this phenomenon. The analysis of a research sample of Czech journalists reveals diverse approaches to branding. At the same time, it highlights the changes in the perception of the journalistic profession and the penetration of non-media elements into the journalistic field. The study also describes what challenges and opportunities this activity brings. It also points out the shortcomings of ethical standards and the absence of approaches that would reflect the new media reality. Despite its many limitations, the work presents the reality of contemporary journalism and provides a starting point for further exploration of this phenomenon in the Czech space.
From victory to crisis: The transformation of the media framing of Petr Fiala's government in the Echo Weekly and in opinion texts on the Echo24 website
Malá, Markéta ; Slomek, Jaromír (advisor) ; Osvaldová, Barbora (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with the framing of topics in the Echo Weekly and in the opinion section of the Echo24 website. It tries to record how tribal authors evaluated the activities of Petr Fiala's government during one year against the background of fundamental social changes due to the post-pandemic situation, the outbreak of the war in Ukraine and the economic and energy crisis. The research works with framework analysis using the deductive method, which is based on the search for already defined frameworks. It is a typology of frameworks described in earlier researches as the most frequently used. These are frameworks of responsibility, conflict, economic consequences, morality and the human interest. Searching for them and then analyzing the frames will make it possible to determine which arguments the authors used most often and how they presented the events to the readers. Research questions are set, namely, how the frequency of texts mentioning the government has changed since its appointment over a period of one year, how the frames used have changed during the year and which of them had the greatest representation, and how the authors have changed their arguments regarding the government's activities. In the same way, the hypotheses are set that more and more opinion texts were related...

Hlinka, Ivan ; Osvaldová, Barbora (advisor) ; Končelík, Jakub (referee)
The upcoming democratic regime and the liberalization of society related to the gentle revolution gave queer people the courage to try to claim their place in society. The first two chapters introduce the theoretical foundations. They present a way of communicating LGBTQ+ topics, basic terms, community development in Slovakia and the Czech Republic, and an overview of research conducted on the topic of media representation of queer people. In the next part, the concepts of media theory are explained. The third chapter deals with work methodologies, where the goal of the thesis, research questions, hypotheses and variables are determined. The last two chapters present the data obtained by analysis, data comparison and answers to the set questions. The result of the work was the discovery of positive trends, such as the growing importance that...

Dvořáček, Vojtěch ; Osvaldová, Barbora (advisor) ; Klimeš, David (referee)
This thesis examines the state of critical journalism (or watchdog journalism) in one local and one regional media in the Benešov region today. The selected media are the district mutation of the Daily newspaper published by VLTAVA LABE MEDIA and the town hall newsletter. Together, these media represent the two most dominant types of regional media in the Czech Republic, which is affected by the phenomenon of news deserts. Critical journalism, in understanding of this thesis, is that whose content accurately and with an emphasis on facts informs about events related to processes in public administration in its broadest sense and at the same time provides sufficient relevant context to allow the reader to understand the described issue comprehensively and in its entirety. The aim of this thesis is to verify the functionality of this journalistic process, which is crucial for the functioning of democratic processes at the local level, through the following research methods: content analysis of samples representing one year of the selected media outlets' editions, semi-structured in-depth interviews with creators of the selected media outlets and a questionnaire survey conducted among their readers.

Practical bachelor thesis Česká travesti scéna- soubor rozhovorů documents the Czech drag and travesti subculture. The main aim of the theoretical part is to introduce an interview as a journalistic genre, which is used in the practical part, and to transparently describe how the author proceeded in creating the interviews. The end of the thesis deals with the topic itself, namely travesti and drag as a kind of performance art that is closely related to expressive make-up, costumes and queer culture. This thesis examines the change in the perception of feminism on the pages of three Czech literary magazines between 2011 and 2020, i.e. in the 2010s. The thesis includes a brief presentation of the historical development of the women's movement in a global perspective and in the context of the Czech territory, as well as the theoretical definition of the concepts of feminism and gender. An important part of the thesis is also a presentation of the current perception of feminism in Czech society and the events that have shaped the image of feminism in the Czech Republic since the early 1990s. Furthermore, the thesis reflects on contemporary Czech literature and its relationship to feminism, including personalities occupying strong points of view on different poles. The whole theoretical background is then used in the analysis of three particular literary journals: A2, Host and Tvar. In these literary magazines, texts dealing with feminist topics are captured through content analysis. Subsequently, these texts are further processed and categorized. Kumsová, Ilike ; Osvaldová, Barbora (advisor) ; Novotný, David Jan (referee)
This bachelor thesis tries to anchor the term activist journalism on the basis of how Czech journalists perceive it. The thesis focuses on the historical development of objectivity, as well as the currents of journalism that deviate from it, global definitions of activism and advocacy, and these same definitions associated with branches of journalism. Objectivity and its relevance in 21st century journalism is included in the theoretical part of the thesis, along with a polemic. The practical part is devoted to qualitative semi-structured in-depth interviews with six Czech journalists and their understanding of objectivity, activism in journalism and other topics discussed in the theoretical part of the thesis. On their basis, the boundaries of Czech journalists' understanding of activist journalism are suggested as advocacy of correct opinion, absence of criticism (of a given topic) and concealment of reality are defined. At the same time, it was discovered that there is a split between what Czech journalists understand as activist journalism and its academic definition. Ilike Kumsová
