T. G. Masaryk's Accentuation of the Social Question in second half of the 19th century
Kozák, Vratislav ; Havelka, Miloš (advisor) ; Nešpor, Zdeněk (referee) ; Kubátová, Helena (referee)
Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk of the 20th century is a person whose characterization and classification in the society of the time is generally agreed upon among scholars. Masaryk of the 19th century, however, is a very different case. To this day, there is still no consensus among scholars as to how exactly to classify Masaryk, which many simplify by arguing that Masaryk himself was indecisive in this regard, devoting himself to many things at once but not always fully. The central issue of the second half of the 19th century was undoubtedly the social question, which is also difficult for many to grasp, since it can be viewed in either a very specific or a very general way. With this in mind, in my thesis I not only focus on Masaryk's view of the social question of the time, but I come up with the hypothesis that it is the social question and its principle of equality that is the central motive of the person of Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk in the 19th century. I propose a functional Masarykian model for solving the social issues of the time, which is based on the aforementioned concept of equality, but in several interrelated yet sufficiently independent areas, such as religion, politics, nationalism, society and education. I subsequently verify the location of these individual aspects within my Masarykian...
The influence of the Czechoslovak and Soviet communist regime on the operation of the Christian Peace Conference and its president J.L. Hromádka from the late 1950s to the late 1960s
Peka, Radek ; Nešpor, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Nodl, Martin (referee)
The main theme of this thesis is the Protestant theologian Josef L. Hromádka (1889 - 1969) and the Christian Peace Conference, which was officially founded in Prague in 1958 as of reaction of several Prague theologians to the threat to world peace during the coming Cold War. In general, we can state that this thesis deals with the influence that the then communist regime in Czechoslovakia had on the work of this organization. We can declare that the professional community no longer doubts that the CPC was directed by the state apparatus, but we will take a closer look at how exactly the leadership of the communist organization did that. In essence, how the regime nomenclature of Czechoslovakia, but also of other countries of the socialist camp, influenced the organizational, material, financial, personnel, as well as content aspects of the conference from the late 1950s to the late 1960s. We will also analyze the internal view of President Hromádka by the Czechoslovak secret services in this period of time. The thesis aims to move the scientific and public debate about Hromádka and the Christian Peace Conference. Key words: Josef Lukl Hromádka, Christian Peace Conference, Central Committee of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia, Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren, Jaroslav Němec Ondra, secret...
Old Town Square in Prague as a place of European memory. From baroque to the present
Bronsema, Liesbeth ; Altová, Blanka (advisor) ; Nešpor, Zdeněk (referee)
The thesis deals with the question of the development of the Old Town Square in Prague as the main public space of the city, where significant moments of European history are expressed and which establishes Czech national memory as a "place of memory". The findings of memory and spatial studies, which converge on Pierre Nora's theory of the tendency of modern society to anchor the past through the creation of lieux de mémoire, are complemented by a historical discussion of individual historical periods of the Czech lands. Through the use of contemporary periodicals, records of assemblies, vignettes, maps, and finally photographs, the interpretation also focuses on the contemporary discourse that was linked to the events on the square, on the basis of which it also provides a reflection on the sites of memory that were created in the context of the Old Town Square during the studied period. Particular attention is paid to a pair of monuments, the Marian Column and the monument to Mister Jan Hus, whose "struggle for space" reflects a number of political, religious, social and other themes of Czech history.
Oikonomia of Hussites
Šenovský, Jakub ; Spalová, Barbora (advisor) ; Nešpor, Zdeněk (referee)
This work discusses how parishes of The Czechoslovak Hussite Church are managed as well as from which sources this management arises. The entire work is based on my research in two parishes of the church. The research took about a year. The Czechoslovak Hussite Church is one of so called "people's churches", but in recent years this church has to deal with a great loss of its members and high age of the remaining members. All these issues require an adequate response from the administrators of the parishes, which is to a great extend based on the faith, i.e. on a specific theology, which is actually a biblical theology. What is more, this theology affects all dimensions of administration. The main goal of this work is to show that the individual spheres of administration decisions are not separated, but all of them are derived from one source. This source is, indeed, the specific theology of the church. The same principles of administration are applied even in the economic behaviour of the parishes, where one can also observe the same principles, which were applied in the everyday running of the church or in the sermons etc. Key words: The Czechoslovak Hussite Church, church administration, church economy, oikonomia
