Sterzik, Josef ; Michela, Miroslav (advisor) ; Stehlík, Michal (referee)
(anglicky) The bachelor thesis is about Opus Dei, the only personal prelature in the Catholic Church. The thesis focuses mainly on the beginnings of the male branch in the Czech Republic. The first part describes the life of the founder, the related history of the organisation and its structure based on secondary literature of Czech, German and English provenance. The main source is mainly the three-volume biography of Josemaría Escríva by the Spanish historian Vazquez de Prado. It also describes the legal development and organizational structure of Opus Dei. In the second part of the thesis, the historical context is explained, specifically the situation of the Catholic Church between 1945 and 1989. The somewhat specific background of the situation of the Church in Czechoslovakia before the arrival of Opus Dei is outlined. Dvořáková, Tereza ; Michela, Miroslav (advisor) ; Pýcha, Čeněk (referee)
The diploma thesis is devoted to the events that took place in Czechoslovakia after the end of the Second World War. The main topic of the thesis is limited to the years 1945-1948. The focus of the work is on three historical moments that shaped the restored republic and Czechoslovak society at the time, and the possibilities of their didactic interpretation in history classes. These are the displacement of the German population, decrees of the President of the Republic and retribution and people's judiciary. The first part of the work presents a historical interpretation of these events. The information that shaped the displacement and creation of the decrees is presented here. The course of post-war event is described here, the most important decrees and their functions are mentioned, and marginally, the work also touches on the settlement of the borderlands. The core part of the work is based on the analysis of textbooks for primary and secondary schools for the period from the 1990s to the present, which provides information on the development of interpretation and the degree of representation of individual topics. The situation is critical. The problem of air pollution in the Most region in the 1960s
Novotná, Nikola ; Randák, Jan (advisor) ; Michela, Miroslav (referee)
The presented thesis aims to show the possibilities of society's response to a gradually recognized problematic phenomenon in the environment exploited by intensive industrial expansion under the conditions of state socialism: air pollution. It will focus on the air quality in the area of Most and its surroundings in the 1960s by tracing the interaction of human impact on the air and conversely at the time when the topic of pollution began to be reflected and addressed in the documents of the national committees in the selected area. The ambition is also to capture the formation of expert knowledge, its involvement in dealing with the situation and to trace the creation and application of environmental legislation. The works published so far usually follow the later period, especially the so-called normalisation. The thesis, by its chronological focus, will productively contribute to the pension of knowledge of the currently primarily historical community on the issue of air pollution in the second half of the 20th century.
"The watchword of the times is: fast. The meaning of the times is: transformation. That is the method and the goal." The influence of the USSR and the Soviet artist on the Czechoslovak interwar avant-garde
Main, Alexandra Valerie ; Michela, Miroslav (advisor) ; Beneš, Zdeněk (referee)
(in English): The aim of this Intersdisciplinary diploma thesis is to analyze the influence of the Soviet Union and Soviet artists on Avant-Garde Czechoslovak theatre during the years of the First Republic and including a slight overlap into the post-Second World War era. The purpose is to show the different approaches of the emerging Avant-Garde movement in Czechoslovakia and its reaction to Soviet influence. These approaches are specifically shown in the examples of E.F. Burian and the various Avant-Garde theatres in which E.F. Burian performed or co-founded. The emphasis then shifts to the Osvobozené divadlo of Jiří Voskovec and Jan Werich and looks at the influence of Jindřich Honzl - an important link between these two theatres and a prominent promoter of innovative theatre aesthetics from the Soviet environment. The difficulty of assessing the influence of Soviet propaganda and Soviet artists is also due to the fact that Soviet artists were not always working towards a Soviet goal but were documenting purely artistic responses in the social conditions in which they were working. I use the methodology of comparative analysis. The source of the work will be first and foremost primary texts (such as archival funds, period manifestos, essays), then press and secondary literature. The title of the...
Analysis of narratives commemorating 28th October in the public debate in the years 1990-1993
Vicherek, Jonáš ; Michela, Miroslav (advisor) ; Rychlík, Jan (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to explore how the czech-slovak society of the years 1990-1993 relates to the past. The study utilizes the concept of ideal-typical narratives by Tomáš Sniegoň and critical discourse analysis by Norman Fairclough. The goal is to examine the role of establishing the joint Czech and Slovak state in various narratives, based on the foundation day of the Czechoslovak Republic in 1918, which is 28 October. The associated question is who represented which narrative and what they were trying to achieve. The principal source materials include records from the sessions of each chamber of parliaments and national full-size newspapers from both the Czech and Slovak Republics. Using these sources, I analyze both the political and social reception of 28 October. I examine various layers of interpretation attributed to this date, with a specific focus on the mutual relationship between Czech and Slovak society.

What they talked about when they talked about the Expulsion. History, anti-communism and world interpretations in dissent polemics of 1970s on the topic of expulsion of Sudeten Germans
Illichmann, Michael Thomas ; Michela, Miroslav (advisor) ; Spurný, Matěj (referee)
Having expelled Sudeten Germans from the country after World War II, the issue enters the public attention mostly as a part of legacy of the communist rule in Czechoslovakia. Even though research on the topic was restricted in the country and heavily influenced by the communist party raison d'état, the issue remained in focus of many Czech and Slovak publicists, philosophers and others who were forced to flee the country for their anti-communist opinions. This thesis is focused on two exile magazines - Skutečnost (1949-1953) and Svědectví (1956-1992) and their debate on the controversial issue of the expulsion of Sudeten Germans. On the basis of discourse-historical analysis, the paper should demonstrate how the issue was contemplated in connection to political visions, politics, individual experiences, and individual narrative styles of Czech-German history. Especially questions of history, German post-war development, activities of Sudeten German organizations and communist dictatorship in connection to the issue of the expulsion are in focus to create a complicated yet richer picture of the post-war history of Czechoslovakia. Key words: Expulsion of Sudeten Germans from Czechoslovakia, Czech- German relations, Czechoslovakian exile, exile literature, dissent, Charter 77
Late stalinism and the attempt at a social reform against the backdrop of life and work of Jan Prochazka
Bárta, Jan ; Michela, Miroslav (advisor) ; Mervart, Jan (referee) ; Czesany Dvořáková, Tereza (referee)
The aim of the presented doctoral thesis is to characterise the time period of Czechoslovak history between the late stalinism of the fifties and the attempt at reform of socialism in 1968 through the life and work of Jan Procházka. Procházka as a writer, screenwriter, office bearer and a political activist markedly influenced the political and cultural events of his time. The subject matter of this thesis is to map his activities and strategies with which he entered the discussions about the socialism reform in the sixties, when he fully established himself in the art milieu. The work is based on two approaches, the first being the theory of social capital by the french sociologist Pierre Bourdieu and second the cultural-historical approach. The main source is Prochazka's opus (all his written works) and other texts closely related to his persona (opinions of art critics, reactions of party directorate, daily press). This biography doesn't follow a typical scheme such as birth, life, work, death, but in accordance with the chosen theory the main character is inserted into the respective social fields. His functioning within these social spaces makes the content of the individual chapters, ranged chronologically. Moreover, the thesis deals with Prochazka's functioning in the Czechoslovak Youth...
