AUDIOVISUAL DEMONSTRATIONS AS A PART OF TEACHING GEOGRAPHY This diploma thesis is focused on using audiovisual demonstration as a part of teaching geography. The theoretical part is dedicated to theory of methodology and aims of thesis, to interpretation of term audiovisual demonstration and its principle and possibilities of work. The second part of thesis is dedicated to qualitative research activities, include interviews with teacher and students. The aim of the diploma thesis is to clarify and summarize experience of teacher with an audiovisual demonstration in their teaching geography. Especially how and when they using them, its advantages, disadvantages, contributions and potential risks. The second part of the aim is clarify and summarize experience of students with and audiovisual demonstration in geography. Especially how audiovisual demonstration can help them in learning, what is their contributions to students. Climate extremes in teaching geography

The diploma thesis deals with climatic extremes and its position in education from students' and teachers' point of view, textbooks and curriculum documents. The introductory part describes the basic characteristics of climatic extremes using specialized literature. The key part of the thesis is research combining quantitative and qualitative methods. The main framework of the thesis is quantitative research, which aims to find out, by means of a questionnaire survey, what are the attitudes of students towards the topic of climatic extremes. Based on the questionnaire survey, it is further evaluated with which preconceptions students come into education. A model lesson based on a constructivist model of teaching, specifically using the E-R-R (evocation - realization - reflection) method, was designed to monitor students' responses. After experimental education, students filled in the questionnaires for the second time, and the last filling took place several weeks later. Repeated questionnaires allowed tracking changes in students' responses and observing the impact of education. Geographical literacy of general public

This thesis focuses on geographical literacy of the general public. It sets two main aims. Firstly to identify geographical community opinion on what knowledge and skills should be these days considered basics of geographical literacy for everyone regardless of their age and achieved education. Secondly to verify the selected basics of geographical literacy with the lay public. The structure of this work follows these aims. The theoretical part concentrates on the explanation of key words and the definition of geographical literacy in accordance with contemporary literature. The other part of the work presents the results of two researches of one's own. The first one was done in the form of an electronic questionnaire and addressed to the members of the geographical community. They firstly used a four-level scale to consider the importance of knowledge and skills that were verified in the research of the geographical literacy of adults in the USA. Secondly, in the form of open-answer questions, they could express their opinion on the core of the monitored assessment reference scope. Factors influencing the selection of geography as a field of study

This bachelor thesis focuses on investigating factors, which impact students' decision to choose Geography as their field of further study. These factors are researched from the point of view of the relationship to Geography in their family or school environment. The research was conducted through a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods, answers were acquired through controlled dialogue in focus groups as well as through questionnaire surveys. The surveys were filled out by 105 students of Geography while 13 current and former students of the field participated in the focus groups.
