Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca: travel and change (Naufragios)
Marešová, Jaroslava ; Vydrová, Hedvika (advisor) ; Housková, Anna (referee)
The book known nowadays as Naufragios by Álvar Núez Cabeza de Vaca is one of the most important testimonies about the discovery and conquest of the New World. The first half of the 16th century saw many exploration and conquest travels in which thousands of sailors, explorers, conquerors and soldiers had to face the reality of the just discovered continent. It is really interesting to see how those who wrote about this event experienced it. Naufragios has always been read as a source of historical and anthropological information, but it has been also studied for the literature elements which we can find in it. In my thesis, I tried to look at the work in its complexity: see the literature influences in it and find those elements that we could call literature elements, but also I wanted to focus on the unusual experience of the author and look into the testimony of his experience with the American reality and see how this experience changed him. My thesis begins with a historical introduction which I consider very important to situate the work in its context. I tried to explain the events which led to the discovery of the New World and also the reaction of the Old World to the discovered one. After this general introduction my work continues with analysis of the first literature that treated the reality of...

Veselá, Helena ; Poláková, Dora (advisor) ; Marešová, Jaroslava (referee)
(in English) This Bachelor's Thesis deals with the characters of two novels from Hispanic-American literature of the Twentieth Century. The first is Túnel written by Ernesto Sábato and the second is Aura by Carlos Fuentes. The initial part of my work briefly summarises the life and principal works of these writers. The following section tries to describe theoretically the literary characters and offers a few possible reasons for their division. The practical part is occupied by analysis of the characters and divides them by using methods which were described in theoretical part. In Túnel, the focus is on the main characters of the novel and the evolution of their relationship. In Aura, the primary focus is on the fantastic transformation of the characters. In the final section, my work offers a summary of several common and different traits of the characters appearing in both novels.

Overseas Shipwrecks: Depictions in Spanish and Portuguese Sources from 16 th Century
Marešová, Jaroslava ; Vydrová, Hedvika (advisor) ; Housková, Anna (referee) ; Binková, Simona (referee)
Overseas Shipwrecks: Depictions in Spanish and Portuguese Sources from the 16th Century PhDr. Jaroslava Marešová Abstract This dissertation analyses Spanish and Portuguese shipwreck accounts of the 16th century. These accounts were written mainly by survivors of catastrophic shipwrecks on overseas voyages to America and India and therefore belong to the huge corpus of works written in the 16th century about exploring and conquering new territories. But unlike the most of the written sources of the period, these accounts does not celebrate the overseas enterprise, they bring a new, tragic, perspective and describe the dangers and misery of overseas voyages. Portuguese shipwrecks accounts were very popular among the readers of the 16th century and therefore they created a kind of tradition. They are often seen as a specific genre and represent an important topic of the Portuguese literature of the 16th century and are studied by many Portuguese literary scholars. In this dissertation six Portuguese accounts are analysed, five of them written by survivors. There are not as many shipwreck accounts written in Spanish. The best known of them is the account by Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca. The second shipwreck account written in Spanish and analysed in this dissertation is the letter by Maestre Juan in which he...
