Two Yugoslavias: One Lost, the Other Dremt of. War and Disintegration of the Yugoslav Federation from the Perspective of the Yugoslav Emigrant Community in the Czech Republic
Hamoudová, Barbora ; Houda, Přemysl (advisor) ; Mücke, Pavel (referee)
The thesis deals with the reflection of the war conflict and the subsequent disintegration of Yugoslavia in the first half of the 1990s from the perspective of representatives of various ethnic and religious groups from the countries of this former federation, who found a new home in the Czech Republic. The aim of the work is to capture their recollection and perception of the causes and consequences of this historical event through oral history, in accordance with the post-positivist paradigm following the cultural turnover in the 1980s. Based on the analysis and interpretation of oral history interviews, I will attempt to interpret the intrusion into the historical subjectivity of these narrators. I will also be interested in the question of their post- conflict identity and their attitude towards the disintegration of Yugoslavia and towards post- war trans-nationalism. The narrators are ex-Yugoslavs who were born in the 1960s and 1970s in former Yugoslavia on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina, during the Civil war (1992- 1995) were already adults and they emigrated during the war or immediately after that. The second decennium of the Munich Betrayal. Reflection of the year 1938 in Czechoslovakia 1948-1958 - formulation and development.
Nožička, Josef ; Čechurová, Jana (advisor) ; Mücke, Pavel (referee) ; Němeček, Jan (referee)
The dissertation explores the creation of a historical portrayal of the 1938 events in Czechoslovakia and the transformations of this portrayal in 1948-1958. In particular, it analyses the mechanism of its creation, its fundamental pillars, the most characteristic interpretation devices, motifs, and patterns, their changes and shifts in their priority; the materials examined include, primarily, specialist historiography publications and opinion journalism on political issues, and in selected cases also films, poetry, and fiction. Furthermore, the dissertation highlights the links between these transformations and the propaganda campaigns of the Cold War - the 'war of documents' and the campaign against bourgeois falsifiers of history. It searches for parallels between the Soviet and Czechoslovak historiography of this period, focusing on their mutual ties in their narrative about the Munich events of 1938 as well as on the gradual weakening of these ties in the mid 1950s.

The main basis for this task fulfillment there are interviews with former Czechoslovak sailors realized with help of the oral history method. Beside this, the paper is supported also by archive materials. The text reflects certain specificity of the topic (maritime business running in the inland country, in addition country ruled by non-democratic regime) and it aims to the company's history; but its main part is concentrated on the sailors' living conditions. It processes direct testimonies about sailors' life and work on Czechoslovak ships; there are included topics as travelling, emigration, direct experience with communist regime on ships, private life of sailors, and their father and husband role. The Town Tábor in the era of the "Prague's spring" and in the beginning of normalisation (1968-1970)
Rozkydalová, Pavla ; Mücke, Pavel (advisor) ; Hlaváček, Jiří (referee)
The paper primarily aims to depict the cultural life in the district city of Tábor against a background of the 1968 - 1970 historical events. The author describes, against the historical background, the individual cultural events and the life of the city, as well as the influence of political events which had the result that the city, and indeed the entire country, returned to the era preceding the "golden sixties". Employing the method of oral history, the author has interviewed narrators who had a proactive relationship to the cultural events in the city. Their testimonies were used as a basis for selecting topics which illustrate the cultural movement in the late 1960s as a period of liberalisation ending with normalisation which suppressed the cultural development of the city; the author especially invokes those events which were irreconcilable with the subsequent political developments in the country. The paper also refers to other resources which outline the atmosphere of the era, namely resources provided by the political authorities of the city and the Tábor City Chronicle. Using the testimonies provided by the narrators and the archival resources, the author has endeavoured to paint the most accurate picture of the atmosphere surrounding the events happening in the city in the said period....
