Joseph Roth: Characteristics of the fictional world
Sirotek, Adam ; Kubíček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Mocná, Dagmar (referee)
This thesis analyses Roth's novels of the 1930s as a complex fictional macroworld. It is through fictional characters, the category of space and associated motifs and symbols that the decadent and specifically patriarchal semantics of the Habsburg world are examined. The main point of interest is the conflict between traditional and nationalized patriarchy outlined by Stritecky. The paper analyses the manifestations of the gradual disintegration of the basic value pillars of this patriarchal world, against the background of the dynamic tension between the centre and the periphery of the Habsburg monarchy. These pillars are the army, the bureaucracy, religious faith; the authority of the emperor, father and husband. In the first part (the centre), the degradation of these values is analysed in relation to the figures representing the centre of the empire. In the second and third parts (periphery; behind the curtain), the secondary figures of the representatives of the periphery, or women, come to the fore. Through these characters, the non-vital nature of nationalised patriarchalism is exposed. This work shows, among other things, that the deviation from the traditional, patriarchal order is the real cause of the overall decline. At the same time, the thesis that the space of the periphery is...

Tomanová, Kateřina ; Smrčka, Jiří (advisor) ; Kubíček, Tomáš (referee)
This thesis deals with two dramaturgical lines of Czech play on the small stage of the theater "Divadlo na Vinohradech". It aims to verify whether or not and, if so, how has the text of contemporary drama changed in comparison to the dramatic text of the period from the 1960s to the 1980s. The thesis does so on a sample of eleven plays put on under the current artistic management of the theatre (i.e. since the theatre season 2012/2013). The first part of the thesis focuses on the theoretical characterization of dramas typical for both of these observed periods and on the development of dramaturgy of the theater in relation to Czech drama. The second part of the thesis contains the analyses and the final comparison of dramatic texts. The dramas analysed in this thesis are Motýl na anténě (1963) by Václav Havel, Piknik (1964) by Ladislav Smoček, Kočka na kolejích (1965) by Josef Topol, Hodinový hoteliér (1969) by Pavel Landovský, Audience (1975) by Václav Havel, Pěnkava s Loutnou (1978) by Antonín Přidal, Zvěstování aneb Bedřichu, jsi anděl (1986) by Milan Uhde, Nikdy (2003) by Lenka Lagronová, Ulity (2011) by Magdalena Frydrych Gregorová, Na kamenném, kamenném poli (Job) (2011) by Tereza Verecká, and Za dveřmi (2017) by Barbora Hančilová. Depiction of the Normalization Period from the Perspective of Child Protagonists
Semrádová, Adéla ; Kubíček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Smrčka, Jiří (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with the issue of the depiction of the normalisation period from the perspective of child protagonists in the works of Czech literature of the 1990s. The thesis is concerned with the novels B. Proudew by Irena Dousková and Bliss was it in Bohemia by Michal Viewegh, and it first analyses them from the point of view of the narrator, the chronotope, the configuration of the characters and the techniques of their characterisation and the narrative audience. The thesis then employs the comparative method to ascertain which narrative techniques involved in constructing the narrative worlds are significant for an idyllic image of the normalisation reality in Czechoslovakia without disparaging the seriousness of the historical period. The result of the thesis is that a vital device for depicting childhood in the normalisation period as idyllic is the orientation towards the everydayness and ordinariness of the main characters and their family environment. Moreover, another significant narrative technique used in the selected texts is the characterisation method of the main characters through their utterance, which reflects in a humorous effect. Nevertheless, owing to the comparative method, the type of the narrator proved to be unimportant as the selected works employ a different...

Poetics of selected dramas from the Krejča's era of the National Theater
Fuksová, Johana ; Smrčka, Jiří (advisor) ; Kubíček, Tomáš (referee)
This bachelor's thesis deals with the motif of everyday life, which came to the fore in the second half of the 1950s, not only for ordinary people, but also for writers, poets and playwrights. In particular, it examines the degree of importance of the motif of everyday life in the plays written for the National Theatre during the period when Otomar Krejča and his "dramaturgical workshop" were active there. For the typological analysis, five plays were selected which premieres took place at the Tyl Theatre in 1958-1963, namely František Hrubín's August Sunday and Crystal Night, Josef Topol's Their Day, František Pavlíček's Match with the Angel and Milan Kundera's The Owners of the Keys. The aim of this thesis is to determine whether the motif of everyday life is what defines the poetics of the original plays written for the National Theatre. KEYWORDS motif of everyday life, Otomar Krejča, František Hrubín, Milan Kundera, Josef Topol, František Pavlíček, drama, National Theatre
An Efficient Load-balancing Image Sampler for Path Tracing
Kubíček, Tomáš ; Wilkie, Alexander (advisor) ; Nindel, Thomas Klaus (referee)
In this thesis, we go through the process of improving a research renderer called ART. We focus primarily on the image sampler. We analyse the shortcomings of the stochastic sampler that was present before this thesis was written. Those being the huge memory consumption, lack of real-time visualization, and a limited communication channel between the renderer and the application that is supposed to control it. We then design two samplers that could serve as a replacement. We choose the one which seems to be better suited for the task. We then run a series of tests which serve to finetune parameters of the new sampler and also serve as a comparison between the new and the old sampler. By using the data from the tests we show that we have reduced the memory foot-print while maintaining the speed at mostly the same level as before while enabling working with greater number of cores. 1
Forms of the Czech underground scene
Šulcová, Andrea ; Kubíček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Klumparová, Štěpánka (referee)
Resumé The diploma thesis is dedicated to the forms of the Czech underground scene on the basis of the analysis of two samizdat literary journals - Vokno (1979-1989) and Revolver Revue (1985-1989). The thesis studies analogous and distinct tendencies in both magazines which became the platforms of the different underground generations. Vokno is connected with the first underground generation that was formed at the beginning of the 1970s. The second underground generation debuted at beginning of the 1980s and later united around the Revolver Revue magazine. The next part of the diploma thesis focuses on the symptomatic features of the poetics of four central writers that shaped the appearance of the journals. The analysis arises from the texts published in both Vokno and Revolver Revue magazines.
