Kučera, Jan ; Hons, Pavel (advisor) ; Strnad, Jaroslav (referee)
A Study of the Scripts of Tamil Epigraphy and their Development Keywords (in English): Tamil script, Grantha, Vaṭṭeḻuttu, Brāhmī, epigraphy, palaeography, script development; India Abstract (in English): This thesis discusses the history of the Tamil script, from Brahmi variants in the very south of India, to vatteluttu and its variants, to the grantha script, up until the modern Tamil script. It gives introduction to these writing systems, shows examples of their primary sources and summarizes the recent scholarship regarding their development. Special attention is paid to the Tamil script reform in the 20th century, in which context a short summary of history of the Tamil press is also given. The thesis contains a review of Czech literature about writing systems in general, a summary of the current Proto-Indic script research, as well as megalithic graffiti. A separate appendix is dedicated to Tamil script in the context of digital technologies and the history of its encoding.

Comparison of the level of balance-oriented coordination skills in fifth, seventh and ninth graders
Kučera, Jakub ; Suchý, Jiří (advisor) ; Dlouhý, Martin (referee)
This bachelor's thesis examines the level of coordination abilities of pupils in the 5th, 7th and 9th grades of elementary school, i.e. in developmentally very diverse periods. The theoretical part focuses on the definition of coordination abilities and their division, further compares the period of prepubescence and puberty and presents test batteries that check coordination. The research was carried out using the Iowa-Brace test, which was used to verify the level of general coordination abilities of pupils. The methodological part describes the course of the testing (including a description of the preparation) that took place in two elementary schools in Prague in a total of nine classes. The measured data confirmed a statistically significant increase in coordination skills between 5th and 7th grade students, while between 7th and 9th grade their increase was less than 5%. These findings are in agreement with the theory of Prof. Karel M kota, CSc. (M kota and Novosad, 2005). Furthermore, girls showed better coordination skills than boys in all grades. Pupils engaged in individual sports also achieved higher results compared to pupils engaged in team sports. KEYWORDS Coordination, Iowa - Brace test, balance training, development, older school age
The impact of the arrival of displaced Germans for the economic development of the Federal Republic of Germany.
Hudecová, Dominika ; Kučera, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Konrád, Ota (referee)
The objective of this work is to analyze the influence of the arrival of expelled Germans on postwar reconstruction of West Germany in connection with their labor market integration. The precondition how to become an active participant on the economy recovery is a stable job. The conclusion of this work is, that expelled Germans were from the beginning an active part of postwar economic reconstruction of Germany, despite of the fact, that there were some structural problems in the economy like a black market, lack of accommodation facilities in the cities or unequable dislocation of these people in the occupied zones. These problems were removed by the currency and economy reforms. After the reforms came in sight, that expelled Germans represented a positive part of the economic reconstruction in form of free, qualified and cheap labour force, which could be purposefully use. This evaluation is based on critical interpretation of the facts received from the literature, scholarly articles and Internet sources.
Elemental analysis of vehical glass using neutron activation analysis and X-ray fluorescence analysis
Kameník, Jan ; Fikrle, Marek ; Kučera, Jan
Glass microfragments provide valuable information about certain vehicle crimes. The methodology describes application of X-ray fluorescence analysis (XRF) and neutron activation analysis (NAA) of elemental admixtures in vehicle glass fragments. XRF allows rapid and non-destructive test of the sample and helps in selection of protocols for detailed inspections by additional methods. NAA is time demanding, however, has potential to provide robust results for law enforcement agencies. Both methods are described together with protocols of analysis and their variants. The methodology includes results for 80+ vehicle glass samples.
Instrumental neutron activation analysis of psychoactive substances, mainly heroin, cocaine, metamphetamine and their adulterants
Kameník, Jan ; Kučera, Jan
Instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA) is a robust analytical method theoretically well descibed and understood. INAA works with solid samples, dissolution is not required. The methodology introduces INAA background and lists procedures used for quality control. Protocols for INAA of heroin, cocaine and methamphetamine are described in details. Applications of INAA for psychoactive substances includes estimation of purity and adulterants used and drogs profiling. The metodology is based on measurement of laboratory and real samples.
Temperature-induced restructuring of Pt-Cu bimetallic alloy catalyst for fuel cell applications
Kučera, Jan ; Khalakhan, Ivan (advisor) ; Vorochta, Michael (referee)
Fuel cells appear as a promising technology, enabling the replacement of internal combustion engines in the automotive industry. Hydrogen fuel cells with a polymer membrane are particularly suitable for this application. Despite significant progress, this technology suffers from several drawbacks that hinder its widespread adoption. One of the main issues is the need for expensive platinum as a catalyst. A possible way to save costs is by using bimetallic catalysts based on platinum and inexpensive 3d transition metals like copper. The preparation of these catalysts can, for instance, leverage the phenomenon of thermally induced segregation. A deeper understanding of platinum segregation in bimetallic PtCu layers could contribute to the development of a better and more cost-effective catalyst. This study examined thin PtCu layers prepared using magnetron sputtering. Their structure, chemical composition, and morphology were determined, and platinum segregation was monitored by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, depending on the annealing temperature of the samples.
Acoustic tuner with audio output
Kučera, Josef ; Krajsa, Ondřej (referee) ; Schimmel, Jiří (advisor)
The aim of this bachelor thesis is to compare selected algorithms used in practice for tuning indication. Within the thesis, the selected algorithms are tested in Matlab environment on a series of audio samples, in order to select the most suitable algorithm for the realization of the tuner. The selected algorithm is implemented on the Arduino platform using Arduino IDE enviroment. Moreover, a voice output is created for tuning indication.
The development of the culture of remembrance of the Sudeten Germans and their expulsion in Ústí nad Labem after 1989
Masopustová, Sára ; Kučera, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Nigrin, Tomáš (referee)
The aim of the thesis is to explore how the culture of remembrance regarding the Sudeten Germans and their expulsion developed in Ústí nad Labem after 1989. The author tries to find out what were the forms of remembrance and commemoration and which actors participated in it and moved it forward. The thesis mentions how the elected political representation of the city contributed to the commemoration or what was the role of the state for instance in establishing institutions or museums focusing on remembering Germans and expulsion. The role of the public and citizens association is mentioned as well. Since the culture of remembrance includes all forms of remembering, the thesis not only focuses on the important moments of the city when the commemorative plaques were first unveiled, but the author also emphasizes another form of public remembrance as culture or cultural heritage. Ústí nad Labem was historically shaped by the German population and at the end of the Second World War one of the massacres of the German population took place here, it is necessary to mention the historical context in the first part. The thesis briefly discusses the communist period, when the expulsion of Germans and the Czech-German past was erased from the collective memory of society and when anything that in any way...
