Developmental coordination disorder and use of MABC-2 assessment for evaluation of children 3-10 years old with consideration of term of birth and birth weight.
Ducháčková, Iveta ; Kraus, Josef (advisor) ; Zounková, Irena (referee)
The bachelor thesis entitled "Developmental Coordination Disorder and Use of MABC-2 Assessment for Evaluation of Children 3-10 Years Old with Consideration of Term of Birth and Birth Weight" deals in its theoretical part with the latest knowledge on the prevalence of the condition, possible aetiologies, diagnostic aspects, clinical picture, comorbidities and therapeutic strategies. In the practical part, the motor skills of 52 typical children were assessed using the MABC-2 test. The children were categorized based on their birth term and birth weight, specifically into those born at full term and those born preterm, i.e. before the 37th week. The aim of the practical part was, firstly, to compare the results obtained and, secondly, to determine whether correlations exist between birth term, birth weight, and the MABC-2 test results. While statistically significant correlations were not demonstrated in the tested subjects, noticeable differences in mean values of all three MABC-2 components and the total MABC-2 test score were observed.
The Arabist and the State: Arabic Language Instruction and the Professionalisation of the Governmental Expertise in the Middle Eastern affairs
Lochovský, Jan ; Malečková, Jitka (advisor) ; Daniel, Jan (referee) ; Kraus, Josef (referee)
The dissertation focuses on a phenomenon of "state-Arabists", i.e., a group of state employees, both civil servants and members of armed forces, who have been systematically directed towards careers requiring proficiency in the Arabic language. The author observes this specific group in the United States, United Kingdom, and Israel between the end of the Second World War and the so-called Arab Spring. The focus of the analysis is twofold. The first is a comparative history of institutions tasked with the Arabic language instruction established directly by the three countries. The second theme are the instructional programmes conducted by these institutions. The author focuses mainly on the ideological factors in their presentation of the Arabic language, the "Otherness" of the Arabic speaking world, and, in most extreme cases, the sentiment of Arabic as a "language of the enemy". Both lines of inquiry are anchored within the context of "critical junctures", thus reflecting the impact of the general history on such a specific instance of exertion of state power as the instruction of a language. The analytical focus on the concurrence of large-scale events of the 20th and early 21st centuries eventually reveals noticeable differences between the civilian and military institutions. The diplomatic...
Objectification of disorders fine motor skills of the upper extremities in patients with hereditary neuropathies
Nývltová, Marcela ; Kobesová, Alena (advisor) ; Kraus, Josef (referee)
In the first part of the thesis Objectification of disorders of the fine motor skills of the upper extremities in the patients with hereditary neuropathies there are mentioned some brief informations about characteristics, classifications, clinical symptoms, deformities and testing of upper extremities, rehabilitation and treatment of CMT neuropathy. The practical part of this thesis is concerned with testing and evaluating of strength, fine motor skills and sensation of the upper extremities in the patients with CMT. For the measurement of the hand strenght the dynamometry and the functional muscle test are used. The Jebsen-Taylor test, the Nine-Hole Peg Test and the examination of static and dynamic handgrip rating are used. For the examination of the sensation the Nottingham Sensory Assessment is used. CMT neuropathy score and Overall Neuropathy Disability Scaleare are used for the classification of disability. The aim of this thesis is the comparison of the muscle strength and the function of the dominant and non-dominant hand. Partial aim of thesis is detection of the correlations between tests. According to the results CMT disease leads to the muscle strenght weakness and to worsening of the fine motor skills mainly of the dominant upper extremity. This may be the result of overwork weakness. For...
The effect of the intrathecal application of Baclofen on muscular spasticity
Chvátalová, Jana ; Kraus, Josef (advisor) ; Smékal, David (referee)
The aim of this thesis was to introduce the intrathecal baclofen delivery method and assessment of its efficacy on patients with severe spasticity. It is an invasive spasticity affecting method which uses an abdominally implanted programmable infusion pump connected with a catheter inserted in the spinal canal. The pump delivers baclofen to the cerebrospinal fluid (baclofen is the central myorelaxans). This method reduces adverse effects of the drug, however it is an invasive method, that can bring various complications. In the practical part, I evaluated one patient with spinal spasticity before and after the treatment initiation. The spasm frequency was decreased by 2 points. The muscular tone measured by the Ashworth scale was decreased by 0,5 point, by 0,7 according to the modified Ashworth scale. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
Evaluation od Developmetnal Dyspraxia in Children with Developmental Dysphasia
Morávková, Markéta ; Kraus, Josef (advisor) ; Zounková, Irena (referee)
Diplomová práce Hodnocení vývojové dyspraxie u dětí s vývojovou dysfázií Abstract This thesis focuses on possible incidence of developmental dyspraxia among children with developmental dysphasia. Theoretical part of the study summarizes information about developmental dyspraxia (sometimes also known as developmental coordination disorder). It also describes developmental dysphasia which is predominantly studied in logopaedics and it is less known in physiotherapy. The link between these disorders is the topic of the last chapter of the theoretical part. The aim of the practical part is to evaluate motor skills of children with developmental dysphasia with usage of diagnostic battery Movement Assessment Battery for Children 2. Both foreign and newly published Czech population norms have been used for analysis of the results. In the research, 89 children with average age of 69 months have been examined. The first group included 41 children with developmental dysphasia. For this first group, the control group of 48 children was also set up. The research proved statistically significant difference between motor skills of children with developmental dysphasia in comparison to the control group. This difference has been proven by both Czech and foreign norms. On the other hand difference between motor skills of...
Diagnosis of developmental dyspraxia in children and adolescents with a focus on the preference of the upper or lower extremities in sport
Helebrantová, Soňa ; Kraus, Josef (advisor) ; Zounková, Irena (referee)
Diploma thesis "Diagnosis of developmental dyspraxia in children and adolescents with a focus on the preference of the upper or lower extremities in sport" summarizes all available information about etiology, diagnosis and therapy of developmental dyspraxia in the theoretical part. The practical part deals with the use of the diagnostic test Movement Assessment Battery for Children 2, which is designed to identify motor disorders in children. Developmental dyspraxia is very often associated with attention problems so the Test of Attention d2 was used. Difficulty with attention has been confirmed in individuals with impaired physical abilities. There was no significant difference in the overall motor skills between handball players and soccer players. The evaluation of particular components showed significantly better results for girls playing handball in the field of manual dexterity.
Electeophysiological response of the central nervous system to prolonged visual stimulation in migraine
Bednář, Michal ; Kubová, Zuzana (advisor) ; Kraus, Josef (referee) ; Kadaňka, Zdeněk (referee)
Electrophysiological response of the central nervous system to prolonged visual stimulation in migraine Migraine is a paroxysmal disorder with complex symptoms (prodromal stage (aura), headache phase, post-paroxysmal phase) by nature it is primarily a dysfunction of the central nervous system with the absence of structural changes discernible on routine neuroradiological imaging. A part of the so far elusive pathophysiology of migraine, is the abnormal central processing of sensory information that has both clinical (in visual perception i.e. photophobia) as well as electrophysiological correlates. In the last three decades, the development of fundamental research in the neurophysiology of central neurogenic dysfunction in migraines (where visual evoked potentials VEP play a pivotal role), has been accompanied by numerous debates on the contradictory findings suggestive of cortical hyperexcitability or hypoexcitability. In order to unify the concept, it would be appropriate to refer to migraineurs as having cortical hyper-responsibility, which implies an increased sensitivity to facilitatory or inhibitory stimuli. The discrepancies in electrophysiology findings gradually grew in number and a significance towards a migraine specific electrophysiological abnormality emerged - a deficit in decrement amplitude...
The effect of botulotoxine on muscle spasticity
Kohútová, Martina ; Kraus, Josef (advisor) ; Zounková, Irena (referee)
The thesis objective was to validate theoretical knowledge on botulinum toxin effects on spastic muscles in practice. Botulinum toxin effects were evaluated in a group of 34 paediatric patients who attended the outpatient Department of Paediatric Neurology of the Motol University Hospital for this purpose. The patient study always took one month, recording muscular tonicity before and after botulinum toxin application. The results have confirmed botulinum toxin A positive effects on pathological muscular hypertonicity. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
