Crew Scheduling Problem: Application in Fast Food Chains

Crew scheduling is very important, especially in continuous operating environments running 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, more so if the demand for staff is varying over each hour of the day. This thesis focuses on staff optimization in a fast food chain where special conditions for scheduling like flexible starting-times and shift lengths or heterogeneous crew are present. Two new models based on a mixed integer programming approach were designed, dealing with data from a particular restaurant with the aim of improving schedules and saving time spent on the creation of those schedules. At the end of the thesis the empiric schedules and results obtained are compared and the computational efficiency of both models is discussed.

This thesis addresses the question of whether it is good to insure as a young man who pays very small amount or interest to the insurance when a person goes into retirement and when the injury heals worse and longer. The target of this thesis is to determine which insurance product from CHARTIS EUROPE S.A. is advantageous for young and for old person. I solve this issue in the practical part of this thesis by using multi-criteria decision making.
Project Planning: Saint Martin’s Party in Jihlava

Department: Department of Econometrics Supervisor: Ing. Lenka Flusserová This bachelor thesis is subdivided into two parts, the theoretical part on the one hand and the practical part on the other. The first part comprehends the basic definitions of project management terms as well as a network analysis such as CPM, MPM and PERT analysis. Further the project management programme MS Project 2010 will be described and explained which was of use later on for the practical part. The main purpose of this bachelor thesis is to illustrate the planning process around the Saint Martins Party in Jihlava.The practical part contains all necessary analysis such as a systematic list of all pieces of work, a time analysis, a risk analysis, the definition of the critical price, the projects outcome, the projects financial performance as well as a list of sources.
Selected models of inventory and their solution in the MS Excel

Supplies are in the economy seen as wastage. Economic subject are therefore trying to create conditions in which inventory level is as low as possible. The area of inventory control includes many models for calculation of the optimal values of the ordered quantity, minimum costs etc. For example price discount model or model with the possibility of temporary lack of inventory in store. The computational complexity of these models is not difficult, because there are many simple formulas. The theoretical part describes selected inventory model in more details. The practical part, which is prepared in MS Excel using macros and VBA for Excel, follows up it and shows the application of models in practice.
Customer service in a gym

The aim of this thesis is to summarize the basic knowledge on the subject of queuing theory and to suggest ways of their use in practice. The theoretical section describes the basic queuing models, as well as their characteristics and classification. In specific the simple exponential model and the exponential model with a parallel service. The thesis also explains and describes utilization of two softwares (STOCHASTICA and STORM), that are used to calculate basic characteristics. In the practical part, the thesis focuses on handling customers in Prague's gym Hit Fitness Flóra. Apart from analyzing the obtained data about the numbers of served customers, there is also a description of the optimization procedure on this queuing model, using the two mentioned softwares STORM and STOCHASTICA.

Abstract Title: Special models of the theory of queue Author: Zhamilya Otarbayeva Department: Department of Econometrics Supervisor: Ing. Václav Kořenář, CSc. The main aim of this work is describe more complicated queuing models. Firstly I described the models with priority. There are mentioned three types of them: relative, absolute and dynamic. For describing I used formulas and examples from people's life for showing situations where we can meet such kind of queuing models. The second theoretical part contains description of non-Poisson models. I explain four of them: model with Erlang's input and exponential service time, Poisson's input with Erlang's service time, deterministic and general distributions. There are shown formulas for average waiting time in queue, average number of requests in queue and in the system. In practical part are illustrated examples for some models, which were described. The main characteristics of the queuing system are mentioned in the first chapter of this work.
Multicriteria decision making in selecting employees

The aim of the work is the selection of individuals or groups of employees using the methods multicriteria evaluation of alternatives. First outline the issue of human resources and focusing specifically on the acquisition, selection and recruitment of employees. Then we move on the theory of decision making, testing of non-dominated solution and calculation of the Saaty's weights. We will describe in detail the methods: ORESTE, WSA, TOPSIS, ELECTRE I, ELECTRE III and Cook-Seiford method for the selection of the expert team. In other parts of the work of the above findings apply to a particular fictional example, carry out a comparison of the methods for the multicriteria evaluation of the alternatives and choose group of 10 candidates, to which we will use the group expert choice for group selection. At the conclusion we summarize the work and we determine the winning candidate or the winning group.
Handling customers in McDonald's restaurant using queuing models

The aim of this research is to evaluate the queuing system in a McDonald's restaurant in Mlada Boleslav and to try it to optimize with queuing models, system STORM and module STOCHASTIKA. In the theoretical part, there are characterized queuing models, their classification and analysis. There are described two specific systems here -- a simple exponential model and exponential model with parallel operation, there are also outlined software systems for the optimization. There are described basic elements of the systems here too. A few pages are focused on system operator in McDonald's restaurants. There is described the specific operating system in three different sections of the restaurant -- direct service, McCafé, McDrive. In conclusion, there is indicated a possible way to optimize this system, particularly its individual parts.
Optimalization of distribution process in trading company

The thesis deals with distribution problems and their methods for their solution. They belong to one of the most often used optimization models in practice. The thesis describes background for using modelling support systems LINGO and MPL for Windows. The modelling languages allow solving all problems described in the theoretical part including the travelling salesman problem and the vehicle routing problem. There are described basic heuristic methods for problems with higher number of variables in this work as well. The thesis includes the description of a real situation for which it is possible to apply travelling salesman problem or vehicle routing problem models. It is a complex problem which cannot be solved by exact methods but heuristic methods must be used. The problem is going to be solved by means of MS Excel together with Visual Basic for Applications using the heuristic method of nearest neighbour.
Analysis of reduced and shadow prices in linear programming problems with lower and upper bounds

Abstract Title: Analysis of reduced and shadow prices in linear programming problems with lower and upper bounds. Author: Lucie Průšová Department: Department of Econometrics Supervisor: doc. Ing. Milada Lagová, CSc. This thesis deals with linear programming problems with additional requirements that values of variables are greater or lower than a specified bound. Where applicable, the variable is limited on both sides. These values are called the upper and lower bounds. Lower bound can be a minimum required number of manufactured products and upper bound a maximum permissible quantity of a substance in the mixture. The thesis contain a formulation of original LP problems with lower and upper bounds which are solved by standard simplex method and by its modification for bounded variables. The aim of this study is to analyze and compare the reduced costs and shadow prices in the mentioned class of problems. At the end there will summarize the results of this work.
