Lenin's open public Information and its realization in Czechoslovak Radio (1987-1989)

The conceptual framework of reconstruction of the economic mechanism and its application in the Czechoslovak Radio (1987 - 1989) Abstract The task of mass media during the period 1986 - 1989 was to help the implementation of přestavba (reconstruction of the economic mechanism) so that people correctly understood its goals, accepted them as their own, and actively participated in their fulfillment. Therefore, in October 1987, the top management of KSČ approved a binding directive regulating the activities of the mass media under the title Lenin's principle of open information to the public through the press, radio and television, regulating the activities of the mass media. The author of the work examined the available archival documents using the method of qualitative analysis, he used oral history procedures in interviews with the then workers of the Czechoslovak radio. Using the examples of each of the 12 measures contained in this directive, he found out how the radio management implemented it and then compared the obtained results with the memories of the radio employees interviewed. All this in order to find out the form of přestavba in one of the central mass media. Following Julius Fučík in the children's magazines between 1945-1970

The Diploma work is focused on the media image of Julius Fučík in the children's magazines between 1945 and 1970. The main aim of the work was to find out how often Julius Fučík appeared in the contents of selected magazines for children and how he was presented to them. Eleven periodicals intended for elementary school children were selected for the research - Vlaštovička, Vpřed, Mateřídouška, Studánka, Plamen mládí, Člověk a příroda, Ohníček, Pionýrské noviny, Pionýr, ABC mladých techniků and přírodovědců, Sedmička. Texts devoted to the topic of Julius Fučík or his works were subjected to frequency and thematic analysis. Based on them, it was possible to determine the period of ups and downs of Fučík's cult of personality, as well as to determine six main themes that were associated with his person in children's magazines. In the conclusion, all predetermined research questions are answered and the results of the entire work are described in more detail way. The analyses showed that the period of the strongest Fučík's cult had occurred in 1953. On the contrary, between the years 1945-1948, 1955-1956 and 1965-1969, not a single text related to Julius Fučík appeared in children's magazines. Media Image of Moving of City of Most in Contemporary Czechoslovakian Media

This master's thesis concerns the media image of the demolition of the old city of Most, construction of the new city of Most and transportation of the church of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary in Most. The thesis presents the reflection of these events in contemporary Czechoslovakian media, particularly in daily journals Rudé právo, Průboj and Lidová demokracie, weekly magazines Květy and Mladý svět and programmes of Czechoslovakian Television between 1963 and 1975. Demolition of the old city, construction on the new city and transportation of the church were made with the aim to mine 100 milions tons of coal under the old part of the city. Mentioned historical events were worldwidely unique. The goal of this thesis is to find out which kind of media image was presented in mentioned contemporary Czechoslovakian media. The thesis consists of two main parts - theoretical and practical. Theoretical part offers necessary historical background, information about analyzed media and methodology. Practical part presents analysis of the articles and programmes using a comparative historical method.
Trade Union Recreations in Czechoslovakia in the 50s and 60s of the 20th Century

Title: Trade Union Recreations in Czechoslovakia in the 50s and 60s of the 20th Century Annotation: The thesis analyses organization, course, and other aspects of trade union "recreation", important and favorite way of holiday spending in former Czechoslovakia. It is a contribution to the research of a leisure time phenomenon. Based primarily on so far unexploited archival sources it observes development of leisure activities and recreation stays organized by the Revolutionary Trade Union Movement between 1948 and 1968. It focuses both on recreation of adults and young pioneers' summer camps. It deals with artistic representation of daily life at trade union recreations in movies and fiction literature, among others. Conclusions of the research are above all as follows: attempts at ideological indoctrination of people even during their leisure time, accentuated at the beginning of the period in view, grew weak gradually. Organized recreation stays became a desired way of a cheap holiday, namely in absence of other possibilities. A collectivist spirit belonged to main characteristics of this way, but it was not solely linked to the communist ideology. The Media Image of Murder of Otýlie Vranská in the Czech Contemporary Press

The diploma thesis called The Media Image of Murder of Otýlie Vranská in the Czech Contemporary Press is dealing with the analysis of the serious press represented by daily newspaper Národní listy and with the analysis of the tabloid press represented by daily newspaper Expres in the selected period from September 1933 to February 1934. The analysis focuses on the news articles about the murder of Otýlie Vranská. She was murdered on 1st of September 1933, her corpse was quartered and sent to Slovakia in two suitcases − one suitcase was found in Bratislava and second in Košice. Both types of periodicals published 96 articles all together. The diploma thesis is divided into two main parts. Theoretical part, which is focused on definition of the First Czechoslovak Republic's period as well as introducing topics such as criminality and press in the First Czechoslovak Republic. In the end of this chapter there is a presentation of the life and death of Otýlie Vranská from an expert point of view. The second, practical part includes mentioned analysis of the news items, which comes after the definition of the key term: the social construction of reality and the definition of the chosen method: the comparative narrative analysis.
Media image of czech fine art in czech media in 1948-53

The thesis aims to describe the media image of the czech fine art during 1948-1953 in the cultural periodicals "Kulturní politika", "Tvorba", "Var" and "Lidové noviny". It focuses on two topics that occurred most frequently in these periodicals;That is the definition of art and socialist realism and shaping artists and society. Social realism is characterized not only by description, but also by inspiration sources like Czech fine art of 19th century and the tendency to oppose competitive or similar artistic styles and trends like formalism, naturalism, academicism and kitsch. Shaping the artists and society is understood in terms of upringing, education and enlightenment. In connection with these two areas this thesis focuses on history, cultural policy of the Communist Party, the organizational structure of artistic production, distribution of art, shaping artists, penetration of art into public and private space, socialist realism and an attitude of visual artists to new conditions of artistic production. Different features were also included to capture the uniqueness of each periodical. The starting point of the thesis is a historical and qualitative analysis.
The homeland-study anthology Northern Moravia

The diploma thesis "The Anthology of National Geography and History North Moravia" is handling the issue of publishing this book title which is a significant representative of its kind. Anthologies of National Geography and History have a unique position among other printed documents. And in addition, the anthology North Moravia is, as the only one of its kind, published in the whole Czech Republic almost continuously from 1957 when the museums of Zábřeh, Mohelnice and Loštice started to publish it together. The diploma thesis presents the anthology, introduces its 50 years history, characteristics of this type of a journal. It is going to refer to the specifics which differentiate the anthology from other journals. The thesis includes a quantitative research, in the form of a content analysis which examines the content of the anthology in the course of 50 years. The thesis follows processed topics, regular columns, types of contributions and development of the anthology in the mentioned period. It wants to answer the questions whether such anthology is able to inform - through popular form - readers from among experts as well as among layman public about geographical themes, whether it is its aim to educate as well, what is its reaction to current events and whether it is able to attract nowadays...
Development of medical advertising in printed media-comparison between periodicals "Světozor" and "Týden"

This diploma thesis observes representation and evolution of medical advertisement, products and services in print. This evolution is shown on comparing the two eras, the "first republic" and modern Czech Republic. The studied years of 1928 and 2008 demarcate the period of 80 years of transformation of advertisement market, but some of the rules are the same. The goal of this diploma thesis is to describe contemporary advertisement in chosen printed media, the magazines for public without specialization or further attributes "Světozor" and "Týden" serve for the research. The thesis observes which services and products were offered, in context of what and which methods were used. The text goes on from introduction to the topic and issues and analysis of particular samples from magazines to their comparation. The results of diploma thesis is the evaluation of used rules, according to the media themselves and the timeline. Thesis deals with the regulation of medical advertisement aswell. To compare them and increase the number of samples, the advertising of cosmetics sold in pharmacies is added. .
Comparison of the view of events in Czechoslovakia on example of Národní politika and České slovo magazines

The diploma thesis Comparison of the Exile Press's View of Events in Czechoslovakia Using Národní politika and České slovo As Examples analyses the content of exile periodicals relating to the events in Czechoslovakia from the late 1960s until 1989. The analysis focuses on four events which can be seen as key moments in the period in question. The first event covered in the work is the Prague Spring, commencing with the first flashes of change to the occupation by the Warsaw Pact forces and its consequences. The analysis then explores the Helsinki Conference and the related civil initiative of Charter 77. The last even analysed is the Velvet Revolution and the period immediately preceding it. The first part of the thesis gives a historical overview of the development of the situation in Czechoslovakia during the period in question with an emphasis on the aforementioned events in Czechoslovak history. The second part analyses and compares selected periodicals' view of these events and their reaction to the development of the situation in Czechoslovakia. Emphasis is also placed on how exiles saw their role in the events in Czechoslovakia.
