Twirling as a special branch of sports slang
KADLECOVÁ, Veronika
The topic of this master thesis is the analysis of language aspects of the group of people involved in the sport of baton twirling. In the theoretical part, the author introduces this type of sports dance, which is not very popular in the Czech Republic and is not in the public consciousness. The attention is paid mainly to the sociolects to which slangs are traditionally assigned. The material basis for this thesis is a partial corpus of slangisms, which was compiled on the basis of the author's own experience, observations and interviews with professional and amateur athletes and coaches (sports journalists and fans are out of focus). The excerpted material is subjected to a thorough analysis, both in terms of semantics, as well as word formation and etymology. The thesis also includes a dictionary of twirling slangisms, an excerpt from the competition rules and scoresheets of teachers. The aim of this thesis is to capture and describe the current state of twirling slang and thus contribute to the study of non standard Czech language.

Among other trends belong for example internationalization, commercionalization of second housing, and timesharing. This thesis aims to describe issue of recreational apartments in Czechia, discover its geographical aspects, patterns and characteristics of its developement. Also predicted future tendencies are discussed. The focus is given to the study of effects which might be caused by the construction and use of above mentioned recreational flats. Existence of these real estates might have negative impacts for the neigbouring nature, economic situation of municipalities and social atmosphere in destinations. There are a lot of subjects involved in this issue (local authorities and inhabitants, investors, nature protective authorities) which means possible appearence of...
Study of fungi, algae and bryophytes from the Cretaceous of the Bohemian Massif and James Ross Island
Kadlecová, Veronika ; Kvaček, Jiří (advisor) ; Pšenička, Josef (referee)
The objective of this Diploma thesis is study of diversity of Late Cretaceous bryophytes, fungi and algae from selected localities of the Bohemian Massif and James Ross Island. The focus of the study is the most precise taxonomy assessment of the found fossils and comparsion of their diversity in selected localities from the Northern and the Southern hemispheres. The greatest emphasis is focused on bryophytes, but algae and fungi are mentioned as well. Thereare described two species of fungi, compared to recent genera Passalora and Stomiopeltis, one species of algaea ssigned to Phycopeltis, two species of liverworts assigned to Ricciopsis, one species of incertae sedis and two species of mosses assigned to Muscites and Livingstonites from the Bohemian Massif. Additionally, from James Ross Island there are three species of mosses described and assigned to Muscites and Livingstonites.
Mycorrhisa in fossil record
Kadlecová, Veronika ; Kvaček, Jiří (advisor) ; Gryndler, Milan (referee)
Mycorrhizal symbiosis is present in the vast majority of extant land plants. Mycorrhizae represent a significant source of nutrients for both partners of the symbiosis and can also provide them with protection or help them survive in less hospitable enviroment. Mycorrhizae is believed to have been just as important in the past and played a major role in evolution of plants, for example in the transition of plants onto land. Mycorrhizal symbiosis is an object of many research works today for its agricultural importance. There is an amount of publications on research of fossil mycorrhizae, but there is still little interest in this issue. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

Semantic fields of differing British and American Lexis
KADLECOVÁ, Veronika
This bachelor thesis deals with the differences between the vocabulary of British and American English. It is commonly known that British and American vocabulary differs, however, the description of dissimilarities is often restricted only on lists of words, from where it is not obvious in which semantic fields such differences may be expected. Based on the different vocabulary between both regional varieties, the purpose of the thesis is to find semantic fields, in which different terms for single concepts might be expected. The resulting semantic fields will be set in the context of the development of English vocabulary and the final tendencies will be described. The first part of the thesis focuses on the theoretical definition of semantics, semantic fields, general differences between British and American English and further on the lexical differences. Individual concepts will be examined by the onomasiological approach. Other parts of the thesis focus on the analysis of the sample and the thesis is finished by the interpretation of results in the context of the English language development, especially in the area of vocabulary.
