Czech Book Rentals 1781-1848

The aim of this thesis is to present the history of book rentals in the Czech Lands during the years 1781-1848. The first part covers the historical context of this time period. The situation of the book market is mentioned, together with the development of libraries in the 18th century. The following chapters focus on the factors leading to the uprise of book rentals, their development, and the censorship by the Viennese royal court. The main part of the thesis contains a detailed description of the most important establishments of this type in the Czech Lands with the focus headed towards the structure of their collections. Printed music and under- the-counter rentals are included as well. Furthermore, the thesis aspires to describe book rentals in the German lands and to compare them with those in the Czech territory.
Bibliological Bibliography and the Study of Regional Book Culture

The paper draws attention to the Bibliological Bibliography, automated database of literature on the history of book culture in the Czech Lands to around 1850. Bibliological Bibliography is one of important sources related to the Czech book culture in general and also to particular places (regions, areas, towns). Bibliological Biblography has recently been integrated as a supplementary database into the www.knihoveda.cz portal which contains primary data together with new tools for research into the Czech book culture.
