Visual components of textbooks of Czech for foreigners - analysis and evaluation

This thesis is devoted to the visual components of textbooks of Czech for foreigners. The five selected textbooks are investigated incidence of certain types of visual components, their position in the textbooks and the frequency of occurrence of these types. The aim of this work is to determine what specific visual aids in textbooks Czech for foreigners appear and whether they are used functionally or not, and give an idea of the form of the visual component of textbooks Czech for foreigners. The questionnaire, which was attended by teachers of Czech as a foreign language, should contribute to this outline. Their task was to evaluate the visual amenities of textbooks Czech for foreigners who are most frequently used in teaching. The first chapter is devoted to the textbook as a didactic resource function including textbooks in foreign language teaching and research textbooks at home and abroad. Attention is focused on the design concept of visual means to learning from visual material and finally the creation of categorical systems under which they were selected textbooks analyzed. Leisure and interest activities pupils from school for hearing impaired pupils

In its theoretical part this bachelor thesis deals with the definition of leisure time and presents the most prestigious leisure institutions and organizations in the Czech Republic. It especially focuses on the specifics of leisure time of hearing-impaired children and youth. It briefly describes the range of leisure activities that are available at schools and hearing loss organization in several cities. In the practical part the questionnaire and survey data are analysed. Attention has also been paid to the difference between leisure time of surveyed boarding and non-boarding pupils.
Verbs in Czech textbooks for the Deaf

The textbooks for Czech deaf people and textbooks for hearing foreigners is the subject of this thesis. The thesis focuses on the interpretation of verbs in them. The whole issue is framed within the broader framework of methods and procedures used in the education of deaf students. The first part deals with the problems of teaching Czech deaf people from the Czech Republic, especially teaching Czech as a second / foreign language. Attention is paid to methods of teaching foreign languages. The thesis is devoted to verbs in Czech language and Czech sign language, their functional and structural differences. The second part is a compilation of available textbooks of Czech language for deaf students, and textbooks of Czech language for hearing foreigners. It is directed mainly to the interpretation of verbs. The third part offers interviews with teachers from primary schools for the hearing impaired. The interviews are focused on their approach to teaching Czech in general, used textbooks, and the difficulties associated with teaching verbs. Negative transfer from the Czech Sign Language into the written Czech of the Czech deaf people

This diploma thesis is dealing with interferences of the Czech Sign Language into the written Czech of the Czech deaf people, especially with the features of the creole languages, which, according to some theories, sign languages bear. The major part of this thesis is dealing with one feature of the creole languages, confusion of the verbs "to be" and "to have". All the features of creole languages were searched in written texts produced by Czech students from the 5th year of public schools for hearing-impaired. The aim of this diploma thesis was to find out, if we can find these features and especially the confusion of the verbs "to be" and "to have" in the written czech in the Czech deaf people, and if so, to describe them. Therefore the thesis is structured in this order: First part of the diploma thesis introduces creole languages and their features in general, following part contains an analysis of written texts, in which were these features looked up (except for the confusion of "to be" and "to have"). Czech Textbooks of Reading at the Elementary Stage for the Deaf - from Century 19 to 21

The Bachelor's thesis characterises Czech textbooks of reading at the elementary stage for deaf pupils from the end of 19th century up to the present day. The attention is paid also to the methods of teaching reading, the issue is put into context of methods of educating deaf pupils. The first chapter covers the methods of teaching reading in general and inclusion of these methods in education of deaf pupils. The second chapter is dedicated to the history of teaching the deaf with an emphasis on teaching reading, it outlines the connection between teaching reading, teaching correct articulation and teaching the Czech language in different historical periods. The third part describes textbooks of reading at the elementary stage from a formal and a content point of view as well as the methods used and teaching techniques. The last part of the thesis summarizes general characteristics of textbooks of reading at the elementary stage for the deaf as well as the connection of these books to teaching the Czech language to the deaf pupils.
Czech language in deaf children's education

The text is mapping the role of Czech language and other communication codes in Deaf children's education, prelingually Deaf above all. Essential Deaf people's communication ways, speaking language and sign language acquisition developments and two main education conceptions: monolingual and monocultural vs. bilingual and bicultural (total communication - as a metod as a philosophy - is remembered too) are presented in the first part. The second part is focused on historical and also contemporary education theories and communication methods applied in our schools for the Deaf. They are confronted with literacy tests score and implementation process of the state guaranteed school-leaving exam in the end.
Hearing dogs - Assistive devices for the Deaf?

This bachelor thesis deals with dogs employed in the socio-medical field, especially with assistance and hearing dogs. The thesis is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. In the theoretical part the reader is introduced to the categories of dogs employed in this field, their special training (including interested organizations) is described and last but not least appropriate legislative measures are described. Attention is also paid to the situation abroad (in the USA, Great Britain and Slovakia). Information in the theoretical part served as resource for the practical part, which is divided into two units: passportization of dogs which are employed in the socio-medical field in Czech Republic; questionnaire survey among people with hearing loss, who are owners of dogs without special assistance/hearing training. In the conclusion the author uses the previously collected data to search for an answer to a question, whether a dog (even without a special training) can be an assistive device for people with hearing loss. Newborn screening and further care of a child with hearing disability and its family - description of current situation in the Czech Republic

The aim of this thesis is to describe the institutional mechanism by which parents whose children were by neonatal screening suspected as a hearing impaired are currently experiencing. The theoretical part focuses on neonatal hearing screening, its appearance in the Czech Republic and abroad, its history, legislative etc. There are also described possible ways of follow-up care for a child with hearing impairment in the Czech Republic. The practical part is based on interviews with medical staff who performs neonatal hearing screening and mothers of hearing impaired children. The aim was to see how, in practice, works neonatal hearing screening, and also the experiences of parents of hearing impaired children with screening and the care for their child that came after. This diploma thesis deals with national assessment of language abilities of hearing impaired pupils and closer focuses on pre-lingual deaf pupils at the ends of the primary and lower secondary schools. Based on the definition of the characteristics of the national assessment, the diploma thesis also focuses on an overview of currently used language tests, both at international level as well as it gives information about the practice in selected foreign education systems. Special attention is devoted to information that deal with the assessment of language abilities in the Czech Republic, and the form of participation of deaf pupils in such testing . The practical part is done by a research which was done to find out the views of those involved in the education of pupils with hearing disorders just the current assessment practice language skills of the pupils. In the final part of my diploma thesis is a possible outline for innovations for testing related to information from the preceding parts of my diploma thesis.
Adaptation of Czech Language Leaving Examination for the Deaf in Light Testing Czech Language as a Foreign Language

This diploma work focuses on Adaptation of Czech Language Leaving Examination for the Deaf, which deaf student in Czech republic pass as a part of the their Leaving Examination. As a background of this main theme examines also present situation in the research of reading literacy. In the main part of this work is this examination presented in detail and there are also presented the results of deaf students and some other statisticts information. Examples of test units and student's written works are attached too. The other part of this work describes examinations of Czech language as a foreign language and give some detail information about the most important exams. In conclusion, the author of this work is trying to explore the way how the deaf students language skills in other countries are examined in their Leaving Examination.
