Motherhood in women with ASD

This bachelor's thesis examines motherhood in women with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The aim of the thesis is to explore how mothers with autism spectrum disorder experience motherhood. The theoretical part of the thesis is divided into three main chapters. The first chapter introduces autism spectrum disorder, its definition, manifestations, and autism spectrum disorder in women. The second chapter focuses on the topic of motherhood, its basic definition, and selected psychological and interpersonal aspects. The last chapter deals with motherhood in women with ASD and presents the results of previous research on this topic. The empirical part of the thesis describes the conducted qualitative research. The research goal, main research question, and five sub-research questions were determined. The research was conducted through semi-structured interviews with five mothers with autism spectrum disorder. The collected data were analysed using the method of thematic analysis. Four main themes emerged from the interviews with the participants: me as a mother, relationship with the child, challenges of motherhood, and support in motherhood. This bachelor's thesis deals with interpersonal relationships in the novel The Maias (Os Maias), written in 1888, by the realistic writer of the second half of the 19th century, Eça de Queirós, a significant writer of the generation of '70s. The novel is a detailed portrayal of the upper social class of the time, concentrated in and around Lisbon. The work aims to analyze family and love relationships and find the secondary and hidden meanings that influence the tragic outcome of the story. Special attention is focused on the female protagonists of novel.

Stress and coping strategies in gifted individuals in emerging adulthood

This bachelor thesis focuses on and experiencing stress and coping with it among gifted individuals. It aims to identify the specifics of experiencing stressful situations in the gifted in emerging adulthood. The scope of the teoretical section is first to delineate key definitions and theories related to the concepts of intelligence, giftedness and exceptional performance. Subsequently, the paper focuses on defining the concepts of stress, strain and coping. It will sum up major current theories of stress management and their implications for gifted individuals. The empirical part of the thesis was conducted using a qualitative research design. It's aim was to understand the stressors that gifted in emerging adultgood encounter, how they cope with these stressors and what role does perception of their giftedness play in these proceses. Data were obtained through semi-structured interviews with six gifted male and female respondents. The data obtained were analysed using the principles of thematic analysis. The results of the analysis then provide insights into the themes of stress perception and coping in the gifted on three different levels: personal, social and meta-level. Selected Perinatal Risk Factors for Postpartum Depression

This thesis focuses on postpartum depression (PPD) and related risk factors. The aim of the theoretical part was to provide an overview of these factors, with an emphasis on risk factors occurring in the perinatal period. The aim of the empirical part was to determine whether PPD symptoms may be related to the psychosocial climate of the maternity hospital, and which specific aspects of this climate are crucial for the development of PPD symptoms. Data from the prospective longitudinal study The Mother and Child Vysočina Cohort Study were used for this analysis. The study sample included 755 women. The Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) was used to measure symptoms of PPD, and women assessed the psychosocial climate of the maternity hospital using the Czech questionnaire KLI-P (Psychosocial Climate of Maternity Hospital Questionnaire). Generalised linear regression was used to analyse risk factors for PPD. The results showed that poorer ratings of psychosocial climate in the maternity hospital were associated with higher levels of depressive symptoms at six weeks and nine months postpartum. Emotion Recognition based on Visual and Auditory Cues

In its theoretical part, this paper examines the ability to recognize emotions and its ontogenetic development across modalities, including the influences affecting this ability. Attention is paid to the most used research designs and stimulus selection. It also presents findings on possible sensory dominance in children. The method and results of the quantitative research conducted are also described. Children aged 4-7 years (N = 18), 8-11 years (N = 18) and adults (N = 24) participated in the experiment. They were sequentially presented with four blocks of emotional stimuli depicting the emotions of joy and fear: separate video recordings of facial expressions; separate audio recordings of sentences in English; simultaneously video and audio recordings with instructions to ignore the video; and simultaneously video and audio recordings with instructions to ignore the audio. The groups did not differ in their ability to recognize emotions from facial expressions (in both the unimodal and multimodal conditions) and emotions from voice in the congruent multimodal condition. Title: Biomechanical characteristics in Axel Paulsen jump variations in figure skating Objectives: The aim of this thesis was to measure the biomechanical characteristics (height and length) of the single Axel Paulsen jump. The jump was measured from two inputs, namely from a standing position (from zero initial velocity) and from a running position (from a single backward translation). Methods: For the thesis, a quantitative research method was used, namely the measurement of selected parameters of the Axel Paulsen single jump. The measurements were performed on a sample of 16 female figure skaters, in the age range of 10 -16 years. Bar graphs were created for each variable as part of the analysis. The best trials were always selected for quantitative analysis. Furthermore, means and standard deviations were calculated. Due to the size of the measured sample, non-parametric methods were used to test the hypotheses. The Wilcoxon matched pairs test was used, and error plots were generated. Eating behaviour of children with autism spectrum disorder

In its theoretical part, the thesis covers the elucidation of food intake's regulation mechanisms, family's influence over the children's eating habits, eating habits of children aged 2 to 6 years, and specifics of eating behavior of children with autism spectrum disorder. The methodology and results of the executed research are introduced next. The parents of children with ASD (N = 34) and typically developing childen (N = 24) at the ages of 2 to 6 filled out a set of questionnaires. The groups of children differed in fondness for the "fruit" food category (less popular with children with ASD, M = 3.58, SD = 0.9, Mdn = 3.86 vs. M = 4.05, SD = 0.61, Mdn = 4.17, Mann Whitney U = 236, p = 0.046); in the amount of food never tasted (more prominent among children with ASD, M = 15.2, SD = 11.7, Mdn = 10.5 vs. M = 5.6, SD = 6.4, Mdn = 4.0, U = 134, p < 0.001); and in the frequency of emotional over-eating (more frequent in children with ASD, M = 1.84, SD = 0.846, Mdn = 1.75 vs. M = 1.38, SD = 0.466, Mdn = 1.25). The parents of children suffering from ASD gave their children food more often when these were experiencing strong emotions (M = 2.12, SD = 0.646, Mdn = 2 vs. M = 1.35, SD = 0.550, Mdn = 1). The vital capacity of lungs in novice figure skaters

Title: The vital capacity of lungs in novice figure skaters Aims: The main aims of this study were 1. to compare the forced vital capacity (FVC) at rest between young female figure skaters and girls of the same age; 2. to find how the free skate influences respiratory functions in young female figure skaters. Method: A personal spirometer was used to test the 20 young female figure skaters aged 11-14 years in this empirical research. Data from a festival of sport for kids "Sporťáček" were used to compare FVC among young female figure skaters and athletes from several other sports. Data were analyzed using non-parametric statistic methods. Results: Compared to athletes from other sports, FVC of young female figure skaters was significantly lower, the same result was also found after conversion on FVC index (FVC/BMI). The level of selected respiratory measures did not differ significantly immediately after free skate nor a minute after the performance. However, there was an increasing trend found immediately after free skate compared to the level at rest. Conclusions: Specific training loads in the figure skating may negatively influence FVC. European legal regulation of patents in the area of science and research Bioethics is an important part of law regulation in the medical field. According to the current state, bioethics is able to highlighted main issues, which are connected with medical research and suggest possible solution.This paper combines two controversial topics. First one is human embryonic stem cell research and second one is research on nanoparts and indicates Intelectual Property Law possibilities in this field. Paper is divided into two parts. First one deals with the legal regulation on research on embryo in the Czech Republic and in other states of The Western Europe. Main focus is based on patentability of research concerned with the human embryonic stem cells, which might have a great therapeutic potential but their preparation necessarily leads to the destruction of "human embryos".
