Explaining the Czech Foreign Policy Towards China (1992-2017)

The presented master´s thesis aims to explain the Czech foreign policy towards China since 1992 to the year 2017. In order to analyse the approach, the author firstly carries out a literature review and introduces three levels of foreign policy analysis, i.e. system, (sub)state and individual. Key relevant phenomena are introduced and the stage is set for the case study. The empirical part of the presented thesis begins with a summary of the foreign policy of the Czech Republic towards the People´s Republic of China. To provide a complex picture, the Chinese interests in Czechia are described as well. The last chapter represents the analysis itself. The notion of polarity and great powers in the system level, the national attributes with domestic influences, and the personalities of two presidents provide the basic aspects contributing to the final explanation.

Shifts in Polarity in the Post-war Global System - Attempted European Re-colonisation in Asia

France and Britains failure in their attempt to re-colonise parts of South-East Asia after the Second World War came out of miscalculations made by their governments and their state institutions. The international system did not transition immediately after the war from multi-polarity to bipolarity. A window of opportunity was available for the two countries to regain influence in the region. The external political environment in the region was not unfavourable to a return of European colonial powers and there were no immediate viable challengers. Foreign policy misjudgements, weak domestic political systems and changes in priorities all contributed to the decline in influence of these two European colonial powers in South-East Asia. This thesis applies realist principles in combination with aspects of constructivism, while observing system and unit levels, to ascertain the root causes of the decline of British and French influence in the region.

Foreign Policy of Peru in the region of Latin America

The thesis deals with the foreign policy of Peru in the region of Latin America. First of all the attention is paid to foreign policy in general, than it is showed practically on situation of Peru. Peru as a state is characterized geographically, economically and politically. The second part is about analyzing the foreign relations with all 5 neighbouring countries-Colombia, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile and Ecuador, subsequently the membership and the role of Peru in regional integration groupings. Specifically for this thesis were selected The Andean Community of Nations (CAN), The Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) and The Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).

Fight for Kashmir

This master thesis deals with the issue of Kashmir conflict. The aim of this thesis is to find possible solution of this territorial dispute lasting since 1947 by using historical-analytical method. The theoretical part explains the concept of conflict in international relations, which is fundamental in the whole work. The next chapters deal with the root of the dispute and its subsequent escalation to the present state. An important part of the work is the development of the main actors in the nuclear powers as well as an attitude of the individual participants.

Development of the international political and economical situation in Iran during the sanction regime

This diploma thesis analyzes the impact of sanctions imposed on Iran by the international community due to unclear issues in the Iranian nuclear program. The aim of the paper is to find out whether the economic situation in Iran has changed due to the sanctions and whether the sanctions have had an impact on its international political position.The analysis of four macroeconomic indicators, which together form the so-called magical quadrangle, will serve to determine the development of the economy. These indicators include the development of the GDP, the inflation, the unemployment and the balance of payments. Given the dependency of the country on oil exports, the development of oil production in the period of sanctions is also being monitored.The results of the analysis show that the economic situation in Iran deteriorated over the duration of the sanctions, especially in 2012 when the European Union stopped buying Iranian oil. The second part is devoted to exploring Iran's relations with the United States, Russia and the European Union.The analysis shows that the relationship between Iran and the United States is more than by sanctions influenced by the fact that Iran is diverting from the civilian nuclear program. On the contrary, Russia maintains allied ties with Iran, which are, however, to some extent limited.This is evidenced by the fact that Russia has approved all the UN sanctions against Iran. The European Union played an important role during the negotiation processbeing the very first to start negotiating with Iran about its nuclear program. For the Union, this was also an important test of the functionality of the Common Foreign and Security Policy Institute.

The role of the USA in the Syrian civil war

In Syria, a non-violent uprising against the autocratic ruler evolved into a brutal civil war, which has drew in both regional and world powers into its unceasing struggles. The aim of the thesis is to analyze the development of the attitude of the United States towards the Syrian conflict and to evaluate the impact of their intervention on the overall dynamics of the conflict. The analysis evaluates the diplomatic engagement of the US in the international community as well as its direct action at the point of conflict in Syria.

Japanese Foreign Policy in the 21. century

Foreign Policy plays an important role in setting of national interests and influences the position of the country in international relations. For a global power in the 21.century, as Japan, foreign policy setting means an important tool or building its position on international political scene. There are many factors incluencing directly creating of the foreing policy, this paper concentrates on teritorrial disputes with neighbor states of Japan - China, Russia, South Korea,that cause tensions and threaten the stability in the entire asia-pacific region. In case of china-japanese relations it is about dispute over Senkaku/ Diaoyu islands, with Russia is involved in a dispute over the Northern territories/ Southern Kurily and relations with South Korea are influenced by the conflict over Takeshima/ Tokdo. Causes of these disputes have roots in history and are connected closely to the mutual experience of the countries, speficic cultural values of Japan and also to the US influence on the japanese development during the previous century. Based on these factors the development of teritorrial disputes in relations to the foreign policy in the 21. century is described.

Media's perception of the Arab Spring

This master's thesis deals with events related to the Arab Spring, specifically during the years of 2011 and 2012 in Egypt, Libya and Syria. It is concerned with media and how selected media covered most important affairs. It presents findings from media theory, as well as the development of Arab Spring in the named three countries. The third part is devoted to the role of traditional media during the Arab Spring, that is of pan-Arabic television networks and national media, and that of the new media, especially of social networks. The fourth part of the thesis analyzes how articles from five news sites in the US, Great Britain, Russia, China and India covered selected events of the Arab Spring in Egypt, Libya and Syria.

Ariel Sharon and his influence on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The bachelor thesis deals with the role of individuals in foreign policy, factors, which influence politician's decision-making and with the personality of Ariel Sharon and his lifelong influence on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The thesis is devoted to Sharon's career in Israeli army and politics and to his life's attitude to the conflict. Special part of the thesis deals with his disengagement plan and with the reasons of this decision. There are also introduced the consequences of the disengagement for Sharon, Israeli and the Gaza strip.
