Pupeteering as a Family Tradition on the Example of the Kopecký Family
Petričáková, Štěpánka ; Wohlmuth Markupová, Jana (advisor) ; Franc, Martin (referee)
The Kopecky family, whose family tradition is associated with puppet theatre, is examined in this thesis, which aims to explore the perception of family tradition in three different branches of the same family. To research this issue, the tradition is also studied in different generations of a given family branch. The narrators were chosen primarily so that individual families did not have closer ties with each other. The theory and methodology of this research are based on concepts of oral history and family memory. Matěj Kopecký, sometimes referred to as the patriarch of the Czech puppetry, was a puppeteer from Mirotice. The art of puppeteering has been passed down from generation to generation and is currently alive for the ninth generation. It brings the question, how is the family tradition in the present and how is it passed on? What exactly constitutes a family tradition? Key words: family, tradition, oral history, Matěj Kopecký, marionettes, marionette theatre

This diploma thesis is on the history of amateur theatre societies in the West Bohemian border area, focusing on two companies, the Hostouň company and the Poběžovice company. With respect to the fact that these theatre companies were most popular with the audience during the period before the revolution in 1989, I will focus on their theatre activities between 1947 and 1990 in my thesis. To explain the overall situation concerning amateur theatre in socialist Czechoslovakia, I endeavour to describe the theatre environment during the post-war period in the third chapter. The methodology of work is based on specialist literature, archive records and chiefly on conversations based on the oral history methods. On the basis of oral historic research I also endeavour to elaborate on topics, which undoubtedly belong to amateur theatre. These topics include characterisation of an amateur actor or director, motivation for performing theatre, amateur theatre shows, expert juries, dramaturgy, stage design and others. The purpose of...

Kůželová, Michaela ; Vykoukal, Jiří (advisor) ; Kunštát, Miroslav (referee) ; Franc, Martin (referee)
This dissertation deals with the Czechoslovak and Polish community of "scientists of science" (mainly historians, philosophers, and methodologists of science) from 1962 to 1989. It focuses not only on the inner evolution of this community (scientists, their works, scientific institutions etc.), but it also examines how was this community formed by the tradition of scientific thought on the one hand, and by the contemporary political and ideological context (Soviet influences, Marxism-Leninism, monopoly of the communist party) on the other. It focuses also on the ability of the scientific community to accept or reflect influences from the Western Europe or United States - which means from the so-called "capitalist countries". Two spheres are analysed to clarify dispositions of Polish and Czechoslovak "scientists of science" to foreign transfers: first, scientists' possibilities to travel to Western countries (research stays, participations at congresses etc.), and second, accessibility to foreign (mainly Western) scientific literature. Functioning of Western concepts in the community of Polish and Czechoslovak "scientists of science" is illustrated by an example of the reception of Thomas Kuhn's The Structure of Scientific Revolutions from 1962. This dissertation shows that the role of scientific...
