Social determinants and health perception of selected groups of immigrants Abstract With the increasing number of migrants arriving in the Czech Republic, it is very important to deal with their health and health related factors. The aim of this thesis is to emphasize migrants' health and expand the knowledge in the area of health perception and social determinants of health among selected groups of migrants based on previously collected data from questionnaire surveys. The data were collected by the Geographic Migration Centre's research team and have already been analysed and subsequently published. However, mainly the migration behaviour was analysed without a focus on health and its determinants. This analysis is based on data of 284 Moldovans living in the Czech Republic and Italy which were collected in 2017-2018; data of 252 Ukrainian migrants from 2012; data of 682 Vietnamese and Ukrainian migrants from 2013. Health perception is characterized by the variable self-rated health. Šimůnek, Michal ; Drbohlav, Dušan (advisor) ; Dzúrová, Dagmar (referee)
International migration and recruitment of medical staff are receiving increasingly higher levels of attention. Especially since the Covid-19 pandemic, which broke out at the beginning of 2020, has brought attention to the global shortage of medical practitioners. Czechia has insufficient numbers of medical doctors and the country's age distribution for the profession is inadequate. Hence, within the Czech healthcare system, the migration of medical practitioners abroad is considered a relatively critical issue, particularly concerning young doctors and recent medical graduates. This diploma thesis examines the potential migration of medical students focusing on the influence of institutions as opposed to familial or other personal networks; these fulfil an important role in relation to the patterns of migration. The goal is to determine the probability of medical students' intention to migrate abroad for work. The thesis also aims to establish to what extent this migration is realistic. Part of the research focuses on the study of other selected characteristics, such as motives for leaving, length of migration, target destinations, or barriers that inhibit the move abroad. The aims of the study are analysed using a quantitative method based on answers to a self- developed semi-structured...

Láchová, Jitka ; Dzúrová, Dagmar (advisor) ; Holub, Jiří (referee)
Master thesis tries to analyze self-rated health in the Czech Republic during the period of transformation. In total, individual data for 7827 respondents from three health interview surveys (years 1996, 2002 and 2008), were analyzed. Significant improvement of self-rated health status in the Czech population was identified. Factors as gender, age, education, economic activity, physical activity, body mass index and social contacts were confirmed as influencing factors of self-rated health in the Czech population. Significant results were found also for marital status, smoking and alcohol consumption, but opposite trends for different age groups were noticed. Eating habits and rural vs. urban differences do not significantly influence self-assessing health. Regional differences in self-rated health were not found in the Czech Republic at NUTS III level. Blümelová, Iva ; Dzúrová, Dagmar (advisor) ; Freidingerová, Tereza (referee)
The Czech Banát is an area in Romania where a populous Czech community lives in six typically Czech villages. It has preserved the Czech language, traditions, customs and the way of living for more than 180 years. After the change of the political regime in 1989 many inhabitants have abandoned these villages for Romanian cities or have returned back to the Czech Republic. This research deals with the history of settlement, the development of the size of the population, ways of a living and education in these villages. Based on research made in schools, the opinions and views of the young generation about their future life were explored. Because of the importance of the aid provided by the Czech Republic to this area, it is dealt with in an independent chapter. In the last section, the future of this community threatened by re-emigration is discussed.
