Structure of motivational factors for vaccination against COVID-19
Šiková, Hana ; Diviák, Tomáš (advisor) ; Mazák, Jaromír (referee)
Structure of motivational factors for vaccination against COVID-19: abstract Bc. et Bc. Hana Šiková This thesis studies the structure of motives for receiving the vaccine against the novel coronavirus disease, COVID-19, which caused a pandemic beginning in 2020. A survey was conducted on a representative sample of the Czech population available online aged 18-64. Networks were con- structed using partial correlations. On these networks, centralities of motives (represented by nodes) were measured (strength, betweenness, closeness, and Expected Influence). It found that groups based on socio-demographic char- acteristics did not differ from each other, while groups defined by their time of registration for the vaccine did differ significantly. Four groups of motives were identified with factor analysis: vaccine benefits, outside forces, medi- cal assessment, and accessibility. In the networks, however, there was little tendency for clustering, suggesting well connected belief systems. Generally, a central motive was the belief that vaccination is generally a right thing to do, combined with a recommendation from a medical authority. The vacci- nation decision of people around had no influence in the system of motives. Results of this and similar studies can be used for effective targeting of future vaccine...
Webs of crime: Corruption in the perspective of social network analysis
Diviák, Tomáš ; Podaná, Zuzana (advisor) ; Buriánek, Jiří (referee)
In this thesis, I attempt to apply the network perspective to the study of corruption. First, I deal with current state of theory and research on corruption, which I find to be ignoring relations and interactions among offenders themselves. Then I review literature in the field of covert and criminal networks. The theoretical part of this thesis ends with brief descriptions of two major cases of political corruption in the Czech Republic - so called Nagy case and Rath case. In the methodological part, I introduce basic concepts of social network analysis as well as methods for positional analysis, especially the blockmodelling. In my research, I deal with exploratory analysis of both the aforementioned networks. Using proxy data, I analyse cohesion, centralization, centrality measures and cliques in these networks. Then I use conventional blockmodeling to search for roles and positions within these networks. My results suggest that both networks are dense and centralized with overlapping cliques contrary to other covert networks possibly accounting for their eventual disruption and failure. Positional analysis using varius methods such as CONCOR or different types of cluster analysis reveals a structure resembling the core-periphery model, which is supported by measuring coreness and finding a good...
Diffusion of innovations in small networks
Šiková, Hana ; Diviák, Tomáš (advisor) ; Lupač, Petr (referee)
in English Hana Šiková This thesis concentrates on the diffusion of innovations in small networks. It studies the process and success rates of diffusions started with different initial conditions. Computer simulations are used to obtain data. Fourteen real-life networks are used and six scenarios are studied. The seeds, i.e. nodes that start a diffusion, are chosen as the most central nodes (measured by degree, betweenness, closeness, and eigenvector centrality), the most marginal nodes, or random nodes. Simulations of these scenarios are conducted with seeds rep- resenting different percentages of the total nodes. Results are compared with network metrics. Centralization and density are chosen to describe networks. Individual case analyses are also presented. No significant correlation is found between the diffusion success and network characteristics. Diffusion success seems to be determined by the position of seeds and the network structure. The findings highlight the specificities of a "core-periphery" structure, in which central nodes have a strategic advantage in the sense of starting a diffusion of an innovation. The findings contribute to the understanding of which network characteristics contribute to the success of a diffusion. Klı́čová slova diffusion of innovations, social network...
Criminal networks: actors, mechanisms, and structures
Diviák, Tomáš ; Buriánek, Jiří (advisor) ; Jeřábek, Hynek (referee) ; Veenstra, René (referee)
Social network analysis is a fruitful approach to the study of relations and interaction between actors involved in organized crime. This dissertation utilizes network perspective to study several cases of organized criminal groups. It is divided into eight chapters. The first introductory chapter is followed by a chapter reviewing the most important network concepts, measures, and models, and their application in the study of organized crime. The four subsequent chapters are empirical studies. The third chapter is a case study of a political corruption network, known as the Rath affair. The study shows that the network consists of different, sometimes overlapping, relations (multiplexity), namely collaboration, resource transfer, and pre-existing ties. The network shows a clear core-periphery structure with politicians forming a dense core and businesspeople occupying periphery. The following chapter studies a case of counterfeit alcohol distribution network, known as the methanol affair. The network structure is composed of two subgroups bridged by one tie, permitting relatively efficient distribution of the beverages. Furthermore, statistical models point out the importance of triadic closure and pre-existing ties for the formation of ties in the network. The fifth chapter tests an influential theory in...
The portrayal of Police of the Czech Republic in mass media
Bajus, Peter ; Malvotová, Pavla (advisor) ; Diviák, Tomáš (referee)
correspond to the development of citizen's trust in the police in the Czech Republic, lářská práce se zabývá obrazem policie České republiky v českých masmédiích a zároveň souvislostí zpráv z masmédií a vnímáním legitimity policie a důvěry v smédiích zkoumána prostřednictvím Tylerovy koncepce legitimity a definovaných zdrojů legitimity, kterými jsou procesní a distributivní spravedlnost a efektivita, a také prostřednictvím legality činnosti policie.
Utilization of Organizational Network Analysis in the Corporate Environment: Case Study
Zvolská, Aneta ; Diviák, Tomáš (advisor) ; Mudd, Dana (referee)
This thesis deals with the analysis of organizational networks and its use for the analysis of economically oriented corporate structure from the internal perspective. Emphasis is placed on communication and cooperation. In the first part of the thesis, the theoretical foundation for network analysis and its application in the field of management was built. The methodological part is followed by an introduction of the used methodological apparatus. This is then applied in the last part in a specific company. The corporate structure is viewed from a macro-perspective, ie the cohesion of the entire network. This view is complemented by micro tools that identify important members and subgroups of the network. These results are compared with the formal structure of the company. Keywords: Social Network Analysis; Network Models, Managment; Sociometry

Information spread in online communities: Example of the Czech foodie community
Němečková, Hana ; Souček, Jiří (advisor) ; Diviák, Tomáš (referee)
This master's diploma thesis focuses on the dissemination of information in the context of the Czech community of so-called foodies (people who like good food and are constantly looking for new experiences in this field). The theoretical part outlines the development of online communities environments, from web forums to social media. It also examines the possibility of applying Katz and Lazarsfeld's model of the two-step flow of communication in the online environment. We also explain the features of online food communication and present widespread social media foodie platforms, including the Czech app Scuk. The research part of the thesis uses the social network analysis method to identify opinion leaders of this online community in the environment of Twitter, Instagram and Scuk and examines how the information spread and the form of this community changes with regards to the particular online environment in question. The thesis also includes qualitative research on the impact of the online information spread on the offline environment - more specifically, on sales, visit rate and reputation of selected Prague restaurants.
Diffusion of innovations in the social network of Czech foodbloggers
Hyclová, Barbora ; Lupač, Petr (advisor) ; Diviák, Tomáš (referee)
This thesis deals with the diffusion of innovations theory in current communication conditions. The first part of the thesis discusses the potential of changes in diffusion of innovations theory after transformation of society's communication structure enacted by widespread diffusion of the Internet and various social software. The theoretical framework is then utilized in analysis of the Czech food blogging social network. The first research question of this analysis is to determine, how the network, socio-demographic and attitudinal characteristics of food bloggers influence the diffusion of selected innovation in blogging, which is represented by vlogging. The second research question is concerned with the type of diffusion system this networks corresponds to. The combination of social network analysis and quantitative online survey among food bloggers. One of the most interesting findings is the inverse proportion of mutual degree to the video blogging use. The number of mutual connections in the network (degree) and size of the residential area of a food blogger were found to be the noticable individual characteristics influencing adoption of innovation. In terms of the type of diffusion system the network rather corresponds to decentralized diffusion system, that may, however, be threatened...
