Effect of the substrate crystalline orientation on the surface morphology and boron incorporation into epitaxial diamond layers

Epitaxial growth of diamond is critically important for the fabrication of diamond-based electronic devices. The emerging study of the epitaxial diamond growth on the (113) vicinal surfaces evidences highly needed high growth rates and low structural defects concentrations with both p- and n-type doping. In this work, we compare the morphology and dopant concentration incorporation of heavily boron-doped (113) epitaxial diamond layers with conventionally studied (100) and (111) epitaxial layers. Epitaxial layers were grown using resonance cavity Microwave Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition (MWPECVD) system. The surface morphology of epitaxial layers was studied by optical microscopy and atomic force microscopy, whereas the boron incorporation homogeneity was determined by Raman spectroscopy mapping.
Hydrogen-terminated diamond surface as gas sensing layer working at room temperature

Effect of fluorine- and hydrogen-terminated diamond surface on the gas sensing properties at room temperature was investigated. The gas sensing properties diamond-based sensor were measured by the changes of electrical resistance to various volatile organic compounds (C6H6, C3H6O, isopropylalcohol) and relative humidity. The comparative sensing performance of hydrogenated diamond surface shows improvement in sensitivity toward benzene, acetone, isopropylalcohol and humid air in contrast to fluorinated diamond surface, where the surface conductivity was suppressed.

The report is about the growth of carbon nanotubes from CH4/H2 gas mixture applying linear antenna plasma system. We investigate growth of nanotubes in the different type of plasma and by using different catalyst particles.
Pulsed linear antenna microwave plasma – a step ahead in large area material depositions and surface functionalization

A technological progress in the large area growth of diamond films and carbon nanotubes by the modified linear antenna MW system is presented. We show a correlation between process parameters and nano- or poly-crystalline film character. A challenging part, diamond coated mirrors or ATR prisms, are shown as multifunctional optical elements suitable for detection of absorbed molecules. Additional positive feature of the presented plasma system is low temperature hydrogen functionalization of diamond films. Finally, we present that combination of pulsed MW plasma with radiofrequency substrate biasing results in growth of oriented CNTs over large area.
