The Effect of Scientific Argumentation on Climate Activism on Twitter
Bicanová, Jana ; Urban, Jan (advisor) ; Soukup, Petr (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to test the main principle of the Gateway Belief Model (GBM) on Twitter data, as suggested and experimentally validated by other authors. van der Linden et al. (2015 and 2019). The GBM predicts that the perception of scientific consensus on anthropogenic climate change increases the probability of support for public action against or in favor of the mitigation of the climate change. In this work I analyse a random sample of 115,940,434 tweets gathered over the course of the first six months of 2020. The big data is pre-processed using unsupervised (Latent Dirichlet Allocation) and supervised (Naïve Bayes Classifier) machine learning algorithms in order to generate keywords for filtering environmentally themed tweets and to classify either absence or presence of the climate activism. Within the dataset, 5,857 environmentally themed tweets were detected, finding that only 94 out of them were explicitly linked to the message of scientific consensus about anthropogenic climate change. The harvested dataset proved to be unsuitable for testing the GBM, not only because of the small number of tweets which contain the message about 97 % of climatologists reaching the consensus, but also because the majority of these tweets deny the consensus and therefore, do not represent a...
The dissent in Czechoslovakia in the gender perspective
Bicanová, Jana ; Šanderová, Jadwiga (advisor) ; Teichmanová, Klaudia (referee)
This bachelor's thesis focuses on the issues of gender regime of dissident milieu and related gender order of the whole socialist society. It highlights gender relations while focusing on the presence of solidarity or homosocial reproduction between male and female dissidents. The intention of this thesis is to explore the way how post-communist careers of female former dissidents are connected to their understanding of the dissident involvement of theirs. To this end, it utilizes a combination of secondary analysis of two different kinds of interviews with seven female former dissidents and study of literature dealing with said subject. The analysis is based on five analytical categories inspired by Hana Havelková's proposition about a hybrid traditionalist-communist model of a career woman. The categories are based on a general concept of gender, and focus on more concrete concepts dealing with socialist society specifically. The conclusion of the study is in a proposed hypothesis form. These hypotheses are recommended to be tested by using different methodology. One of the key hypothesis claims that the former female dissidents did not give up their "gained positions" once the revolution succeeded. The kind of post-socialist careers of former female dissidents were not a change of a career...

Bicanová, Jana ; Šafařík, Petr (advisor) ; Irmanová, Eva (referee)
This bachelor's thesis focuses on the issues of forming national identity and related possibility to reinterpret Hungarian uprising of 1956 in context of sixtieth anniversary of the historical event. It highlights the most common meanings that were linked to the event while focusing on presenting the memory policy of governing party Fidesz. The intention of this thesis is to explore the way how exhibition of museums legitimize the policy of Fidesz. To this end, it utilizes a combination of classical study of literature dealing with said subject and musicological analysis based on five categories that were inspired by Aristotel's approach to drama, where the used sources are two exhibitions that were organized due to the sixtieth anniversary of the historical event. The conclusion of the study is based on the comparison of the exhibitions, rhetoric of speeches delivered by politicians and the theoretical framework described in the opening part of the text.
