Optimization of breeding in tropical woodlice Trichorhina tomentosa.
BĚHOUNEK, Ladislav
This thesis was created for the purpose of determination whether the production of the tropical woodlice Tichorhina tomentosa can differ depending on served food. Tropical woodlice are innovative species of fodder insect in terraristics therefore there are not many studies about their farming. This fact became one of the main causes of this fodder insect species choice for my study. Another aspect was relative farming easiness. Woodlice were kept in the same conditions and divided into four groups. Every single group was given a different kind of food. Data collection was carried out every week the number of woodlice was measured. It was found by statistic method that served food influenced the tropical woodlice production. In the experiment the populations which were given oat flakes and dry dog food were growing most quickly. This fact might help not only fodder insect breeders to better production of tropical woodlice.
